Art From The New, But Not Yet Ready Final Fantasy XIV

By Spencer . October 14, 2011 . 1:30pm

Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 is moving into development. Naoki Yoshida, the game’s new director and producer, laid out an ambitious road map that includes pets, targeting specific limbs during combat, and Mithra Miqo’te males and Roegadyn females.

Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 will add familiar monsters to like Odin, Garuda, and Leviathan.

Chimera, cyclops, and alien-like sahagins will be in the game too.

An in-game event will explain the radical map changes and it looks like these pieces of concept art may give us a hint at that Final Fantasy XIV storyline.

Those changes will take place between August and September 2012. Final Fantasy XIV will then be rebooted a second time in October with a PlayStation 3 closed beta tentatively scheduled for November 2012.

Loving the artwork! Still pissed that PS3 version is delayed even more, but the game does look more promising. Also, the female next to the  Male Miqo’te is a Female Hihglander, which is about time.

After watching that 12 minute gameplay vid of Type Zero I can honestly say I wont miss waiting for this game in the meantime

    Just do us a favor, don’t rush it this time. ^_^;

I guess they’re finally learning that gender specific races only serve to piss off the community.

Nobody likes gender specific races…That is unless you’re selfish.

That issue doesn’t really bother me but I can understand what you mean lol

Ah, good. A PS3 Beta means I’m getting closer to finally being able to play this. Even if it is still far away.

aaaah these pictures inspire me to paint.

O_O OMG! I can’t wait for this to come out. With the recent update all the changes they made are great. FFXIV 2.0 is looking to be a good game, especially now that it’s coming out for the PS3.

After playing the beta with varying degrees of disappointment, I can say the one thing I am excited about is the male Miqo’te/female Roegadyn. Though I will admit the art for just about everything else looks amazingly spot on, except for Garuda. She’ll take some getting used to for me.

Like one other person commented; learn from your mistake and take your time on this one, yeah Square-Enix?

  • IB2004

Garuda? That doesn’t look like a hyped up on drugs toucan

I’ve been playing since OB and I finally uninstalled this game for good, why change to a P2P model when the rest of the industry is running from it? SE will never learn. I’ll wait for Guild Wars 2 thank you very much.

It’s impressive how much effort these guys are putting into correcting the previous team’s errors.
I’m looking forward to the finished product.

Take it slowly. New FF 14 development team. The game already fall so hard before and everyone knows that u guys are doing a great job.

As long as u guys finish the game this time with what the game should have for the first time. U guys will be able bring profit.

  • Enma_Kozato

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for game/concept art, but you know what I’m an even bigger sucker for? Being able to make cat boys.

      I second that.

      • Xyraphius

        Third’ed.

    • Gatchaman1

I love game concept art but I also hate it cause it always looks a thousand times better than the finished product.

Only exception this season to me seems to be Ni No Kuni (because that looks just like a studio Ghibli art come to life) any Cyberconnect game, El Shaddai and The Last Guardian

      • Enma_Kozato

Mhm, mhm. I also hate it when certain pieces of concept art aren’t used or discarded, because most of the time I prefer it over the finished product :<

Once FFXIV goes pay to play I’ll cancel my account until 2.0 is out. No point in paying if all those features aren’t live and the game is completely ready.
