Persona 4 Social Is Coming To Smartphones

By Spencer . October 19, 2011 . 3:18am

Persona 4 Social Is Coming To Smartphones Index Corporation released Persona 3 Social for Mobage-town about a year ago. The social game lets players create their own character in the Persona 3 world and battle shadows with friends. In just a few months after its release, Persona 3 Social had 500,000 members.

Persona 4 is everywhere with an anime series airing in Japan, a PlayStation Vita remake, and an Arc System Works developed fighting game. Soon, Izanagi will be on your smartphone too. Index Corporation announced Persona 4 Social (tentative title) is one of the social games they’re working on.

Index is also working with popular game creator (Index’s words) Keiji Inafune on a social game called The Island of Dr. Momo too. The game was announced earlier as a GREE title and slated for launch this fall.

    OMG PERSONA 4 overdose!! I <3 Atlus!

    • OneOkami

If that was meant with sarcasm I’d direct that more towards Index than Atlus. Honestly, Index, to me, kinda comes off as the money/profit-driven overlord kind of company that will milk a cash cow dry if it can.

I’m talking outta my rear end so hopefully I’m wrong.

Now what kind of company would operate like that? I certainly wouldn’t run Square Enix in such a way.

        • OneOkami

Well, Activision in regards to Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk comes to mind.

          And uhh…from Destructoid:

“Yoichi Wada, who recently issued an ultimatum to his staff: if any games are made that don’t fit into the mainstream’s circle of interest, job cuts will follow.”

…Following the The World Ends With You’s debut.

Lies! Lies and slander! A simple misquote if anything. Here at Square Enix, creativity and innovation are our lifeblood.

            Wow.

Activision have so many different development teams they can afford to have a different one working on each series without the need to stop making new series’ aswell.

          • Solomon_Kano

I have to wonder how many studios Activision has. Even with multiple studios it still seems like they do very little.

This isn’t hate at Activision, I’m just honestly trying to think of what they do beyond COD and Marvel games. The last new thing I remember them doing was Singularity. Was there anything after?

          • landlock

To my knowledge…I included Spiderman because there pretty fun games.

            Radical Entertainment (Prototype series)
            Beenox (All Spiderman games)
            Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer (Call Of Duty)
            Raven Software (New James Bond)

I guess they only have about 5 studios then. I know they shut down a few and then there are few things like Cabela (the new ones actually pretty good it’s  a 3rd person survival horror type game) and Men in Black just listed as Activision.

They also outsource stuff to Highmoon Studios (Transformers), Eurocom (More James bond).

Making as much money as they can with a game they made? Oh, evil incarnate!

        • OneOkami

Think about it this way.  If the Persona team was made to do nothing but pump out Persona after Persona and supplementing them with upgrades, remakes and fighting games, Catherine would have never existed.

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea. Thankfully, the Persona team isn’t made to do just Persona. Even if is what they were formed for. Catherine would’ve been a pity to miss out on.

Well, Index is after all, a holding company. Atleast there is less risk for the companies it absorbed should ever they suffer a loss. It also means more financial backing for the companies it absorbed, such as Atlus. So yeah, we could say that Index is profit-driven. (Please feel free to correct me if what I say is wrong and I apologize now if there is >.<)

But the only thing that concerns me is that for future news about Atlus or Atlus games bear the "Index" name. I mean, just like in this one http://www.siliconera.com/2011/10/19/catherine-is-a-big-hit-for-index-with-500000-copies-sold-worldwide/

        • Joanna

For the last part. Catherine was still published under the Altus name in both Japan and NA, and I recall from the news about the merger, Atlus brand will stay, it’s just that all profits go to Index directly instead of Atlus as they are now a single company and Index’s mobile division gets to use Atlus IPs as much as they want.

oh my god they are milking this game so much.

Persona 4 is my favorite SMT, but man, I kinda wish they stopped at the fighting game and the remake…

It’s not like any of the social games will make it outside of Japan anyways. Either way, people were saying that they wanted a P4 social game, like P3.

    • kyuketsukimiyu

At any rate, for a company like Atlus, it is not so bad for them to milk successful games a bit. They need to get the funding to make some of the other great games they make that don’t sell as well Persona. Or to try riskier titles like Catherine.

Define “smart” in the context of Japanese phones. They’ve been smartphones as we understand them for at least a decade or two.

  • aoihana

Why are they stuffing Persona into every nook and cranny possible? I mean, I know why they’re doing it[¥], but WHY? Honestly, I think it’s a bad idea in the long run. Soon it will be: Oh, it’s just more Persona…

    • http://twitter.com/furdworetzky Fur Dworetzky

      “Oh, it’s just another Pokemon.”
“Oh, it’s just another Final Fantasy.”

The “just another” syndrome rarely translates into any kind of meaningful impact on game sales.

    Did anyone say “milking”?

Man, I’m not sure this joint with Index Corporation will do any good to Atlus…I may be just too paranoid though.

  • NaruKami

I don’t mind an a=Anime, Fighter, Remake (I love the remake actually), and maybe a social game. BUT NO MORE. Stop milking a perfectly good series!!! I do kinda wish the social games came here over seas thougPr
