There’s A Bit Of Valkyria Chronicles In Sega’s Shining Blade

Theres A Bit Of Valkyria Chronicles In Segas Shining BladeSega’s Shining series switches genres from action RPG to strategy RPG and most recently traditional RPG. Shining Blade for PSP has a strategy action realtime battle system, which is being compared to the BLiTZ tactics system from Valkyria Chronicles.

 

Well, Valkyria Chronicles with swords and magic instead of rifles and anti-tank lancers. Shining Blade puts players in control of five party members in battle. Cooperation is a said to be a key element. During event scenes players can talk to fellow party members and pick dialogue choices. The relationship you have with them affects cooperative techniques.

 

Shining Blade is in development for PSP and slated for release in spring 2012.

        I’m not expecting anything from Sega. But there is an interest for a fan translation. The Phantasy Star forums have a thread discussing the current translation of Phantasy Star Portable Infinity. The project leader(previously patched .hack//link) mentioned an interest in patching VC3 once Infinity is done.

      to be perfectly honest, the series has been pretty unoriginal from the start.

      but it’s that good unoriginal, mind you. Never pushing any boundaries, but being a damn fine early example of the genre (at least in terms of strategy RPGs).

        Yup. Even the much loved original Shining Force games were essentially Fire Emblem rip-offs. Nothing wrong with that since they were good Fire Emblem rip-offs, but still.

    I`d insist  that VC battle system is really semi-turn based, while it might look like real time. Which is great, because the VC series for me is a highlight of the decade :)

      Yeah, that was only about making bread it’s the only focus. This new shining seems amazing for having tony taka style and a good system combat. I hope the game have more than five characters (good ones) and a good story.

    I always thought a melee class in VC would be awesome

    and in VC2, it was proven true.

    maybe they will do it with a little less one-hit-KO power though lol

    Will definitely keep an eye on this one.

    What I always thought VC needed was:  1)  More damage from enemy fire when you’re moving, and 2)  A ‘suppression fire’ command, to prevent enemies from shooting at you while running. 

    In a melee game, the ability of one unit to take out entire bunkers by himself should be a lot lower.
