Rune Factory 4 Has 3D Anime Movies

By Spencer . October 24, 2011 . 12:23am

Rune Factory 4 Has 3D Anime MoviesDuring Nintendo Direct, we learned Rune Factory 4 won’t be in stores this year. Marvelous AQL rescheduled the Nintendo 3DS game to spring 2012.

Producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto gave a status update on the title and revealed Rune Factory 4 will have a stereoscopic 3D anime scenes spread out through the game. This took some time to create, but Hashimoto feels it will be exciting for players to see. Right now, he and the Rune Factory team are working on fine tuning the game.

Thanks for the correction Daz Tooke!

At first I thought it’d be like the creepy Tales of Hearts 3D version CG, then I read the article.

Thought either way is fine, I barely ever watch opening movie anyway.

someone should tell Hashimoto-san that most people skip through the opening animation and start playing right away.  >_>

…aw, now they’re making me feel bad.  I guess I’ll watch since they worked so hard on it.

      How dare you skip it

        I was impatient.

        …and weak *sobs*

          Unforgivable
Here is to quote our lovely Sofia from RF3:
“I want to drag you out to the wilderness and let the monster have their way with you. Repeatedly”
” I… wish… I wish a violent tornado would carry you off to a solitary
island that would subsequently suffer a massive earthquake!”

      1 person can’t Fly Higher, I see

I have no objections against the 2D openings though. But as long as the 3D conveys the art style properly, I wouldn’t complain either.

I’ll stay open-minded. Gust has made absolutely marvelous 3D openings for the latest Atelier games.

actually, I think this is still 2D drawn anime, it’s just that you’ll be able to see a 3D effect for depth.  Sounds pretty interesting unless I’m reading it wrong.

That is how I’m reading it.  Considering they are saying “took some time to create” I doubt they are saying CG as isn’t CG easier to animate and use 3D effects?

Pseudo-parallax scrolling, similar to what is used in 2D games or anime/Disney movies, but based on your viewing angle? I’m all for that.

Kind of wish the extra development times mean we may see an english version this year but probably not until 2013

I dont mind. I think the 3D effect the 3DS has is absolutely gorgeous. The only game I tried was Rayman 3D though, so I cant say anything about other 3DS games.

I really like this game’s art direction, it’s already my favourite Rune Factory game in that respect.

The update mentioned in the article is actually several weeks old now, and was added at the start of October.

It not only confirms 3D-support for the opening, but also for all anime movies in the game.

Here’s the translation I posted on gamefaqs 2 weeks ago:

    “Hello, producer Hashimoto here.

From October the company name has been changed, and there’s been a change in attitude, but were working eagerly as before. Now, as we haven’t given much information beyond the first reveal, I’d like to let you know the current state of “Rune Factory 4″.

Beyond the game sections, a 3D opening is already complete, and in-game animation scenes are pretty much complete too.
This time we’re creating all anime movies to support 3D, so it’s taken a bit of work, but we believe you’ll experience exciting animations like you’ve never done so before.

As for the important game portions, the system has been mostly completed, so from here we’ll be increasing our precision as we continue developing it. We’d like to make it into something with even more satisfying content than “Rune Factory 3″.

There will be some more time before further information, but please wait just a little longer.

    Hashimoto Yoshifumi.”

The new update added on the 21st talks about how they’re preparing for the next reveal, and how the games “Doki Doki System” will make you say “What? We’re really going to do that!?”

Take your time. I love portable Rune Factory, and the more polish the better!

  • Suicunesol

I’m somewhat interested to see this. 2D animation doesn’t have simulated depth quite like 3D polygonal animation does, so s3D anime will either be underwhelming or very interesting. I’m wondering if the s3D just gives depth to different layers of artwork, or if the artwork itself was drawn twice in two different angles. I doubt the latter due to the difficulty and time involved, but it would be nice to see.

I saw the Lion King movie in 3d. It seems to be like if you were watching a cut out book. It was a pretty interesting experience as I myself wondered how would a 2d animation look in 3d. It certainly looked incredible. If this animations on this game are the same then I’ll expect them to be awesome.

    Having trouble envisioning 3D animation.

  • theworldofnoboundries

Well i am not really picky about this thing as long as u deliver the same old goodness for RF. Take ur time polishing the game.

  • summer_lloyd

On one hand I really want them to polish the game up as much as possible, make it beautiful and fun and all that.
But on the other hand, if it’s coming out in 2012 in Japan then North America will probably have to wait until 2013 for it…
(then again, if I finally get to play a game in which the female protagonist has long green hair, I’m okay with waiting! seriously, game makers, green haired girls are the BEST!)
