Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection will be available on PlayStation Vita too. Series creator Hideo Kojima was checking out the Vita version and tweeted this photo of Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition.

Kojima also ran some tests with the new Fox Engine. He added an unchanged model of Chrysalis from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, which you can see in the upper left hand corner.

    That pony is officially screwed
    Kojima is not a BROny

  • PrinceHeir

    amazing stuff :D

ohhh i wish Metal Gear Rex was just as big like this.

though it appeared much better in MGS4 so it’s all good :P

come on Kojima show us your game collaboration with 5pb and suda 51 along with your taboo one :P

  • d19xx

I’m glad I can play the excellent(post shooter inspired) Metal Gear games again in glorious HD. Maybe it will give Kojima a damn hint to quit pushing the franchise towards the generic western shooter genre…

MGS4 was hardly a “generic western shooter”  and played far better than any other entry. If having a terrible camera and garbage controls are eastern, good thing it was westernized.

      • d19xx

I said “post shooter inspired”. I never said it has turned into a shooter, but it’s heading in that direction…

    960×544 ≠ HD

And you judge that from pictures taken with a potato ?

    • James Beatty

Yeah, how can something be part of an HD collection on a non HD console? This seems odd to me :/ Maybe just call it MGS portable collections, or maybe MGS almost HD collection :P

Or Metal Gear Solid it is almost considered as HD but since the Vita is not considered as a HD Handheld Edition ? We shall call Capcom for longer cheesier names.

    • thebanditking

I don’t think they will call it an HD collection when it releases on Vita anyway. Still while not HD, I am sure the visuals are relative to an HD display given how much smaller the screen is and how close the pixels are together.

    • Relytgninroht

Actually, anything above the resolution of standard definition is considered HD. So 960×544 can be considered HD. You’re thinking of HDTV resolution which can only be 1280×720 or 1920×1080. Every asset will likely be at the same resolution as the PS3 version- it’ll just display at a lower resolution while looking better (due to a much higher pixel density).

  • thebanditking

This looks so awesome! I can’t decide if I want this and ZOE on PS3 or on Vita (probably just going to double dip) its a shame that the transfarring system is only being implemented in Japan, though I have no idea why.

    • Solomon_Kano

Well, we really haven’t heard about enough Western-developed Vita games to be able to accurately say that. Really, since the system and games aren’t out yet, we can’t say anything about them not using it.

Wouldn’t you want to see how well it’s implemented/received before you invested time in developing that functionality in your game?

Another part of that is that, thus far, none of the [known] Western-developed Vita games are ports. That’s not meant as a slight to the Japanese developers or anything, but Transfarring itself came from Kojima’s idea that he implemented in a port (even if the idea itself’s goal wasn’t that port) and Japanese developers are continuing to implement it in ports for Vita. That’s its only use at the moment, from what they’re putting out.

Ruin has something like Transfarring, but it’s an actual multiplatform game and not a port.

I can’t decide what will be better: going for Metal Gear Solid 3DS and the Nintendo 3DS or getting the HD Collection for the Vita and purchasing a memory card with the system itself (which will be clearly much more expensive than the 3DS).  Help me out!

    • Darthgundam

You gotta factor in how badly you want a second analog

      • Noel McCann

It’s not the end of the world if I don’t have a second analog.  I was perfectly happy with the control scheme for Peace Walker on the PSP, so having two analog sticks, although convenient, is not the most important thing.

    • Solomon_Kano

      Pay for the 3DS + analog pad + MGS3D

      or

pay for Vita (that already has 2 analog sticks) + memory card + MGS2/3/PW HD

It’s clear which is cheaper, so in the end it boils down to what you want out of each system. This is coming from someone who plans on buying a 3DS (not for MGS3, though) and a Vita. I’d say go for the Vita, but I have no idea what kind of experience you’re looking for.

Games aside, the idea of a system that already has a second analog sounds more appealing than buying one that you would already need to buy an analog add-on for when you get it IMO. It seems likely that when the 3DS sees its first revision Nintendo will include the 2nd analog anyway, so I wouldn’t spring for the add-on.

      • Noel McCann

Thanks, man.  I want a good MGS3 experience on the go with the best performance and most features, so I will keep your advice in mind.

        • Solomon_Kano

No problem. I try to help people where I can so, if I was able to do that for you, then I’m glad of that.

go for the Vita, the 3DS screen is too small nd the 3d effect is overrated

  • Solomon_Kano

This, ZOE HD, and Kojima’s next game are about the only PS3 games that I would also buy on Vita. Otherwise, I’ll stick to picking one or the other.

  • CrimsonalCore

Well, this is going to destroy the MGS3D 3DS sales… Ah, well, at least it’s MGS3 on 3DS. x3
