Fall In Love With Hakuoki: Demon Of The Fleeting Blossom In February

Aksys chose a rather appropriate date to release Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom in North America. Their romance game will arrive on February 14 aka Valentine’s Day.

Hakuoki follows Chizuru Yukimura who travels to Kyoto in search of her father. When she arrives she meets the Shinsengumi,a group of young men who keep the streets safe. Just in time too because strange things are going on, but somehow Chizuru still has time to find the man of her dreams. That’s the game’s core, after all.

If you’re not familiar with Hakuoki or the otome genre read our interview with Aksys where Frank "Bo" deWindt II and Ben Bateman speak… passionately about their work.

This will be my first PSP PSN Vita purchase, really excited. Great screens.

SSX is also on Feb 14.

  • Enma_Kozato

Wish they would reveal what the item(s) in the LE are. If we go by the results of their survey it would be an artbook, which I am not surprised at.

I’ve been watching the anime to get a feel for which guy I want to shoot for first.
    Shinpachi, Y U NO obtainable!?

  • Room201

Just like Enma, I’m waiting for Aksys to reveal what the LE will include. I’m getting impatient haha but I’m happy knowing that I was able to pre-order the LE through Amazon two weeks ago. Both versions are available there if anyone wants to pre-order it.

However, be aware that I received an e-mail from Amazon saying that it seems like there was a big demand than initially thought so the shipping for this item is going to be delayed…it might change as it still has 4 more months (and I don’t really mind) but just informing in case some people do!

    • Joanna

That’s awesome news. Perhaps otome games do have a future here~ If Amazon is ordering more, than a bigger initial shipping for Aksys, which is good news.

  • aoihana

Saito is so freaking hot, seriously, but my heart will always belong to Hijikata. If I were to choose between Saito, Hijikata, and Souji, I think I’d go on the rest of my life pondering, but luckily, this is a game, where you can have them all!

    • Enma_Kozato

      Except for Shinpachi (TT nTT)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NJ2NQXQNJEEXMOHXESVN2YPT5I C

        Why no Shinpachi??? D:

        • Enma_Kozato

Because, according to Aksys, he’s god tier.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NJ2NQXQNJEEXMOHXESVN2YPT5I C

aww that sucks. Aksys wanna keep Shinpachi all to themselves?? lol xD

  • brian yep

Wait, it actually displays those full names above most text boxes in game?
It would maybe make sense to do it a few times but beyond that, it’d seem gimmicky and slightly annoying opposed to just using given names.

    • Suicunesol

Let me tell you why they did this:

      1. This is a Japanese game about feudal Japan. At least in feudal Japan, a character’s family name is just as important as his/her given name, if not more. You can see this in the Japanese version where the position of the family name and first name is reversed so that the family name comes first.

      2. It’s important to note that not everyone calls each other by their first name. Depending on the relationship between people, some characters will only be addressed with their last name. Therefore, it is important for the player to know both a character’s family and personal name.

Now, the second point might be moot if this game opts out on the use of honorifics… I hope they didn’t take them out, but they probably did.

  • Roses4Aria

Yay!  Finally a release date and a very appropriate one at that.  I’ve already got it pre-ordered.

BTW, I’m liking the looks of that Limited Edition cover. :P

  • XxDestinyXx

I am still waiting for Gamestop to make pre-orders available. :(

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Thank You Aksys! Also what a badass cover to pick, I don’t think any person of any demographic could ignore such a cover. Well I’m going to preorder at Amazon :)

Cover looks awesome, but first glance people wouldn’t think it is an Otome. lol  I guess you are marketing a bit more on the Shinsengumi side (which I”m sure is easier than marketing the romance side).I’m certainly interested, to support visual novels and a company that takes risks.

Yaaay now I have to find somewhere to get it from. I doubt it will retail in Australia.

    • Ladius

Canadian site videogamesplus. ca is really helpful for those outside the USA, I suggest using it if you have some import games to buy.

  • http://orangtunes.blogspot.com BIG MAC

I’m buying this for sure. I especially want more otome games to be translated.

  • puchinri

Fufufu. I can’t wait to have you in my hands, Hakouki. I’m going to make myself a harem out of the most unf-worthy Shinsengumi!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Zekushion Dylan Anantha

Gintama has clouded my judgement. I want Sougo, Hijikata and Kondo instead of Souji, Toshizo and Kondou.

  • Hours

Getting this for sure. More visual novels please.

Harada’s the man, but I wish Shinpachi was an option too.

This is sooo going to be my Valentines present..! Yaaaay!

Thinking about giving this a go. Being a guy, never really played an otome game before but Hakuoki seems pretty cool and all.

    no news for europe?

  • Joanna

Do I spy an M rating? I wonder why it’s rated so high and what the rating in Japan was now…

Also, that cover, pure unsuspecting victims buying an otome game. Aksys, marvelous~ *mad scientist grin*

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

ESRB doesn’t list the game yet but Aksys did say the description:

“Thought this was a game for teen girls? Well, those rumors you heard about Hakuoki being “M”-rated are true. Hakuoki is rated Mature, for Blood, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Violence. Emphasis on the blood and strong language!”

    • http://www.aksysgames.com Belisarius

It’s rated M primarily because of blood, and language.

  • http://twitter.com/heavenside j.

Amazon says it’s to be released on my birthday. aww, thank you aksys!
