Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting For Your In-Flight Entertainment

By Spencer . October 30, 2011 . 10:10am

Let’s say forget to bring your DS, PSP, iPod, laptop, and generator powered PS3 for a ten hour flight. What do you have to play then? On some airplanes, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting.

This arcade port is played with a Wii remote-like controller with a tiny joystick, four face, and two shoulder buttons. While the controller isn’t ideal, Street Fighter II… for airplanes works OK, except it’s one player only. Would have been neat if you could challenge another passenger to a battle while they were watching sitcom reruns.

This is one of the most random, funny, weird, innovative, and awesome thing to ever happen to airplanes. XD I like this. Will this happen overseas as well? I surely hope so.

My friend told me he boarded airplanes that got SNES games on-board already (but not sure if those game are legal port or not)
but, yeah, the point is this is not exactly new or innovative, but still a smart move nevertheless

Wow! Lucky for your friend! I wanna play Super Mario Bros. 3 or Yoshi Island on my plane. That would be wonderful.

Probably to avoid any trouble stirring during flight.

Coach passenger: (yelling)Passengers on first class are shoto scrubs!!!

    Flight beatdown, begin.

What planes are these? Holy hell, I need to book a flight.

  • darkraiders

Father:Come son we need to get out of the airplanes

Awesome. Which airlines is this? I usually fly with Emirates and SF2 would be a nightmare with their in-flight remote XD

  • Solomon_Kano

I would so book a long ass flight just so I could play this the whole time lol.

While this IS preety cool and I am sure it will make a lot of flights a lot more entertaining, I have to wonder…..why Hyper Fighting? I mean, it is a good version of Street Fighter II, but I don’t see why they couldn’t use Super Turbo or even Hyper Street Fighter II.

I am reminded of Capcom’s Classic Collections. The Reloaded PSP one redundantly had the first three versions of Street Fighter II, but not Super Turbo. Its like Capcom isn’t satisfied with just making a million versions of every fighting game, they want to squeeze out whatever they can from each version. -_-

Like this if you want this thing in Ryanair planes…

On top of the marvel that is human flight, I can now play Street Fighter using the chair in front of me. Life just keeps getting better

I’m surprised the airline that does this was not named. This is very cool nonetheless.

Would’ve preferred some sort of in-flight netplay action, but that’s still really neat!

Come on… Like they decided to update the game for airlines. This is not new at all. I remember playing SFII on my way to London from BWI (I think) in the 90′s.

This is like the best game ever. Too bad yoshiki okamoto isnt doing anything anymore.

I still have my SNES copy. This is pretty neat.

Yeah, I remember having one of these on a Singapore Airlines flight when I was a kid. Had Link to the Past, Megaman X, and F-Zero. Was good times.

Back in 1999, I played Street Fighter II World Warrior while drinking significant amounts of complimentary sake on an All Nippon Airlines flight to Japan. They had a SNES thingy in the back of the seat. Loved it – I think I beat it with everyone to pass the time…
