Magitek Armor Mounts… For Final Fantasy XIV

By Spencer . November 3, 2011 . 2:30am

Magitek Armor Mounts… For Final Fantasy XIVFinal Fantasy XIV already has chocobos for players to ride and the next mount may be Magitek armor – you know, the snazzy mecha Terra rides in Final Fantasy VI. Producer Naoki Yoshida said he would like to add Magitek armor to the online RPG and showed a sketch during a YouTube Live presentation. However, implementing magical mecha won’t happen until Final Fantasy XIV version 2.0 is complete and that update is slated for public testing around September 2012.

Yoshida plans to completely change Final Fantasy XIV by adding standard classes. The Disciples of Magic you know as conjurer and thaumaturge will become white mage and black mage, respectively. A dragoon class will also be added and Yoshida is still thinking about if players will get a wyvern or not. If players get a pet wyvern, the dragoon will have to be weaker so it’s a balanced class. All of this is starting to sound… a lot like Final Fantasy XI, but XIV has one major change. Players will level up jobs by completing quests, not farming experience points.

Players will get personal space in Final Fantasy XIV to decorate and you may even get a bonus from logging out in your home. After housing is introduced, Yoshida wants to add mini-games like those from Final Fantasy VII’s Gold Saucer too. Yoshida keeps adding to his ambitious list of changes, but will all of these ideas and borrowed Final Fantasy lore lure players into trying Final Fantasy XIV, perhaps for a second time?

Eh I’m not sure I’ll ever get this, gotta give them props for trying but seeing XIV in action was painful for me.

    • YarboroughSales

      It wasn’t painful to me.

  • shuratan

Oh the “seeing” part was quite beautiful, awesome graphics and whatnot. It was the actual “playing” part of XIV that turned me off… But all these new changes and upcoming ones do seem to be a turn for the better. Perhaps I might just get back into it…

  • Oni123

I’m genuinely excited about 2.0 can’t wait to see it in action. =D go Yoshi-P!

I can’t wait for the PS3 release, hopefully they add a blue mage-ish class soon.

  • godmars

As much as i bashed them for FFXIV, and XIII for that matter, they just got my interest.

    • Thomas Maloney

at least they’re fixing XIV =D

  • Ladius

Yoshida is really trying his best, his effort is really commendable regardless of the fact that FF14 is already dead in the eyes of most of its potential customers :

    • YarboroughSales

I liked it the way it was. I’m that kinda gamer who DOESN’T get all butthurt when something I expect isn’t in there. If it isn’t, oh well. Keep it steppin’.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Hiryuu

I’d be more willing to give it a chance BECAUSE he’s actually taking the time to go out of his way to make the game that much better.  I do tend to give respect to those that make a genuine effort to fix what the problem is.

The only thing is I’m not a fan of MMOs.  It would take a lot from me and the way FF is going to make me a believer for them.  FF Type-0 is definitely a good start.  It’s online and I don’t have to worry about the massive part.  I’d be enjoying it with a few friends of mine and that’s it.  The huge socialization part is something I’m not really interested in.

  • Gatchaman1

Seeing as how FF Versus XIII isn’t even out, XIII Agito just came out and still no localization, and XIII-2 arrives in just one or two months, it’s crazy when you think that this game, XIV, came out a year ago.
It was really way too soon. NOW, this game, well, 2.0 version for PS3, isn’t coming until 2013. Probably as it should have been from the start.
Even crazier that they’re actually going to start charging the PC players for the ‘beta’ version.
Also cool on the Magitech but not really feeling how they fit into this ‘medieval’ world. Seems kinda shoehorned in to appease the naysayers…

    • YarboroughSales

Stop looking so deep into stuff and stop complaining. If you were a real fan, you’d take what’s on the plate and not ask for more, so to speak.

      • Ladius

This kind of mentality would ruin a franchise in some years, though, as soon as people notice that they’ve been exploited.

Thankfully Square Enix doesn’t think that way, and after acknowledging FF14′s many shortcomings it’s trying to fix them.

      • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

Now that’s poor mentality right there. I’m a great fan of Final Fantasy games and I wanted FFXIV to succeed. But just hoping doesn’t make games better. If you take what’s on the plate then this would had never happened. There would be no 2.0 version and lots of fixes because there aren’t people complaining about it. Criticism is one of the many ways a game can be improved. Developers aren’t gods, they also need to hear the voices of their fans to fine tune their products to their fans likings. This changes and plans give me renewed hope for FFXIV.

“Also cool on the Magitech but not really feeling how they fit into this ‘medieval’ world. Seems kinda shoehorned in to appease the naysayers…” Dude.. did you play the game, or at least see the trailer? This isn’t a LotR type world, is more like a FFXII one.

    • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

It certainly is taking quite a while. Final Fantasy XIII Versus was announced before the PS3 even came out together with Metal Gear and FFXIII. I’m afraid FFXIII-Type Zero will not get localized. PSP sales are near dead and now with the PS Vita coming out in months developers won’t want to waste time localizing games for PSP when the Vita is coming out. However PSP is still so popular in Japan that every week a new psp game is released while only this week did we got Fate/Extra after weeks and months with little releases.

  • SirRichard

Hey, Square, why can’t we have swanky Black Mages in non-MMO Final Fantasies any more?

I just want another Vivi, dammit.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Hiryuu

What craze?  It’s a series that’s barely made it off the ground as an online franchise.  FF, primarily, is a solo voyage.

Every iteration of its online has always started out terrible.  XI just happens to be passable years and years later but falls far short of the mark in terms of being a halfway decent MMO when compared to others in that capacity.

And not everyone likes dealing with other people being in their game either.  Yet another reason people won’t attempt to get into XI or XIV.

So again, there’s no craze.  You’re deluded.  There’s a niche calling for it, there’s no doubt, but there’s no craze.  Not just yet anyways.

    • YarboroughSales

Well, if you don’t like it, oh well.

      • SirRichard

Apparently wanting a character design in another game means I’m unemployed and flat out of cash. While I’m at it, clearly not being in with the “online craze” means I kick babies and am probably a sex offender, right?

Normally slobbering fanboys wait until something negative is said about their favourite franchise, mate, I’m afraid you’re jumping the gun. You’ll get it right eventually, I’m sure.

Well FFXI had one of the largest MMO populations for its time. The problem with FFXIV is that it was released with FFXI’s early problems, but in an era years later when there are a ton of MMO choices on the market. People are less willing to shell out for a badly released game when so many other choices are around or on the horizon.

One of my all time favorite things in the franchise, magiteks, and square has to put them in their awful mess of a MMORPG.

    • YarboroughSales

If you don’t like it, don’t complain. Maybe REAL fans of the series will appreciate it. Unlike you.

      • Guest

In other words, being a real fan: Buying blindly anything a company throws at you, regardless of the quality.

      • http://www.facebook.com/DAISHIGAJO Jason Rodriguez

You’re not a real fan if you support shoddy products just because they have the Square Enix label on them. I’m a real fan because I’ve been playing Final Fantasy games since FF1 on the NES, but that doesn’t mean I don’t realize FFXIV is a mess.

      • amagidyne

Getting angry at people for not liking things you like makes you look childish. Doing it six times in the same thread makes you look crazy.

  • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

I played this since beta on and off every few months but I finally uninstalled it after the F2P period was over. Why change from F2P to P2P when the rest of the industry is embracing F2P is beyond me. Oh well there is only one MMO that I care about and it starts with Guild and ends with Wars 2.

    • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

The Old Republic is pay to play and World of Warcraft is still Pay to play. So I don’t know what you mean by everyone embracing F2P. When a game goes F2P is because its lost most of its fanbase and have to make revenue from somewhere since subscriptions aren’t cutting it. Servers aren’t cheap and in order to manage such a huge amount of players they need the money. You pay what you get for.

      • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

The only successful MMO and another that’s is using brand name (both from franchise and developer) to try to take a stab at WoW, your point is? The P2P model is dying and TOR will end up being F2P because brand name isn’t making people p2p for MMOs (see DC Universe and FFXIV when it finally dies). I get what I pay for $59.99 for a boxed MMO that I don’t have to keep paying in order to play (Guild Wars 2).

        • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

Guild Wars 2 is a special case. It was designed to be a free to play game. They probably have built limitations into the game to not have such expenses with servers. Although I’d love that all MMOs were free to play I haven’t found many successful mmos out there that are free to play. Some don’t even last long and disappear. Others are completely unbalanced to only give a fun experience to people who pay to play. MMOs that haven’t been successful have turned towards free to play. MMOs that are successful remain pay to play. World of Warcraft, FFXI ( even though diminished still has a large fanbase ), Aion Online, Terra Online, etc. etc.

A lot of money is needed for an mmo. GMs, Events, monthly updates with new content, the servers, keeping the game running 24/7. It isn’t like playing shooters or starcraft 2 which have a lower player count. I bet guild wars uses a lot of instancing too not use the server too heavily. Still its something I don’t mind and I’m also excited for Guild Wars 2.

It bears to mind the conflict between the Playstation 3 free to play and the Xbox 360 xbox live subscription. However FFXIV never was a free to play. Its trial period was extended as a apology to the broken state of the game. They did say billing would continue when they decided the game had redeemed itself. A bit early if you ask me. I would had preferred billing started at 2.0. Seems their money situation must not be doing so good.

If TOR will turn F2P remains to be seen. The game isn’t even out yet. If all the changes are implemented as planned I’m pretty sure FFXIV won’t die. If FFXI has survived then FFXIV might still be salvageable. Several polls have been conducted and players who want to play it free to play are on the minority. The majority are willing to pay.

I’m glad they’re going for a more traditional approach, and the Magitech mount is a nice touch.
I really truly hope they can bring it back together.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yuka-Hajima/100002694174786 Yuka Hajima

I just saw the live letter last night and i was impress to know, Se bring magitek armor to ride how cool is that since Garleans are base on magitek armor so am sure there’s some connection btw them.

also dragoon is being plan to have a pet, just like in XI cool!

conjurer being a whm not happy about that but THM will be the black.

both are level 50 am going with THM since i hate healing never bother with  whm in XI.

2bad they will star paying 2.0 release and ps3 users get a free “trial” only if it’s a new account.

  • Solomon_Kano

This game sounds better and better by the day.

If they keep this up, I’m definitely going to look into it when it finally lands on PS3. That won’t be til 2013 at the earliest, so the game is probably going to be even better by then. Exciting thought.
