AKB48 Idol Designs Final Fantasy XIII-2 Costume For Serah

AKB48 Idol Designs Final Fantasy XIII 2 Costume For Serah

Yuko Oshima isn’t just a Final Fantasy XIII-2 judge, she’s also a costume designer. Square Enix asked the AKB48 idol to design two costumes for Serah and her moogle. Starting on November 15, fans will be able to vote on which one makes it into the game as downloadable content on the Judge13 page.

Oshima calls this first outfit "exposure and defense." When designing this costume she wondered is it really possible for Final Fantasy female characters to fight with so much showing. Oshima thought adding pointed shoes and a shield would make Serah ready for a fight.

The second costume has a red riding hood motif. Oshima thought the idea of mixing red and white together defines a character transitioning into an adult.

    =.=

lol the first one, Serah stole Lightning’s previous outfit and made some changes. I really love that black shirt? and boots. The second one looks pretty interesting but I’m not feeling that missing piece on the skirt, that’s a little too much. Though at this point I feel anything is better than that plug suit Serah is wearing…

You know I think a functional shield for Serah would be pretty cool especially if you can use it in battle. And another thing Moogle outfits…I want to dress up moogles…*o*

    • Joanna

So I wasn’t the only one who noticed the first design was very reminiscent of Light’s FFXIII costume. I personally think it’s kind of cute that the sisters wear a similar style of clothing and the first one just looks nicer to me as well. I hope it wins~

  • JustThisOne

If only there was some way to mix both of them. I like the Little Red approach, but I don’t like her skirt. It’s got a pleat or two missing. I like the coattail and shield of the first one, but I feel like the over all look is a bit too safe.

Also, what’s with the bra-chain? Doesn’t she know that she could get a really awkward tan like that? D:

  • aoihana

More like Little Red Riding Badass! ^o^

Seriously though, I love that red costume and those thigh highs (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Oh, by the way, Yuko Oshima is not only a Final Fantasy XIII-2 judge and a costume designer, she’s also a goddess who happens to be one of my waifu’s (◕‿◕✿) Yes, I have many waifu’s 。◕‿◕。

    Good Night (。-ω-)zzz

Caius is the big badass wolf then.

  • Masengan

I like the one where shes wearing a skirt on top of the underwear.

  • IceRomancer

Hot little riding hood hands down! :D
Anything with a hood is win in my opinion :)
The Moogles cute in a hood too :3

  • http://www.facebook.com/santd Daniel Sant

I prefer the Red Hood, as it reminds me of both Red Mage class as well as Kid from Chrono Cross, which would complement the chrono vibes of the game for me

Wish it could lose some of the bells and whistles and cover up a bit more, but hey, not bad for a pop idol.

  • Christian Wright

    i prefer both!

  • kroufonz

i like both! much better than default serah costume in FFXIII-2

probably this is what square been planing all along, they make the default costume as bad as possible and make the dlc custome much better so people will buy the dlc:P

  • badmoogle

Personally i find all of Serah’s costumes (including the official one) horrible. But then again i also hate her character.:/

  • exhume

First outfit is pretty cute, even if the denim shorts don’t fit the world design. Second outfit looks like a “sexy” halloween costume :

    • Aoshi00

Denim fits w/ everything, just look at Enoch in El Shaddai :)

I like the Red riding hood outfit..  still haven’t seen that movie w/ Amanda Seyfried yet.. too bad the moogles don’t come w/ them..

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

I honestly can’t choose between those. One is obviously sexy, but the other is what I’d expect a character in a rpg to use (Ya know, a game where you fight monsters and stuff). But I’d vote for the one where she’s actually clothed with the circus jacket (lol) because it simply looks more appropriate for a fight and adventuring altogether.

The other is awesome as well, so I’d hope they end up releasing both anyway.

  • BGMcDF

First outfit, if only because it’s more practical than the other one. Hoodie!Moogle is rather cool, though.

Hmm……I like the black one better.  She looks more badass IMO. It seems like she’s also more courageous in that outfit because she exposes herself more. While she does expose herself a lot in that outfit, it least it isn’t too much like certain other video game women (looking at you Mai Shiranui, even though I love ya) or anime women (looking at you Shura from Ao No Exorcist) just to look sexy. Finally, what I find unique about that design is her boots! Love em’!

Though I’m fine with either one of them, I just like the black one more. Thanks, Oshima Yuko for these lovely designs.

    • http://www.fanfiction.net/u/601368/ Sharda Colon

I agree. I like the black one more. It does look more badass. ^.^ It seems to suit more of Serah of her way of not relying of someone else to protect her but rather to take charge and join in the fight herself. Besides it looks similar to her sister’s outfit. Plus the fact it looks tomboyish but still looks cute at the same time, so it adds more adventurous tone to me.

The red riding hood one looks cute, yes. But it reminds her of old self, relying on someone to help her. I guess because its based on little red, in the first place. I admit I like the skirt, but it looks to similar to Sailor Moon. Which is a weird thing for me to say and I love Sailor Moon :/

However both look 10x better than her default outfit. I wonder how cosplayers will figure that one out. .__.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

They’re cosplayers. Cosplayers ALWAYS figure it out, one way or another.

    • takopako

totally agreed. i like them both, but the black one just feels…right.

    • puchinri

That’s a good way of putting it too~. It’s saying, “I can take you on and win!” instead of, “be distracted by all the skin I’m showing.”

I think the shorts could be a little longer (but maybe they will be in the game), but the outfit isn’t exposing everything with such an obvious fanservice-y manner (compared to the other). And it is pretty cute and badass. I like that it’s simple, but has fair detail.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

You can look badass in a costume that has plenty of showing, so long as it’s not an obvious victim of a pantyshot. So yeah, I’m keeping the black one. =)

  • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

Are these AKB48 girls the Morning Masume of the new decade?

  • theworldofnoboundries

Ohh man i can see some of the sales on AKB48 game for PSP to join this FF bandwagon only to support the AKB girl who is designing some of the costume.

Well at least all of the costume is good and much better than the original one.(Damn U SQ for making the original costume that bad.)

    • Joanna

Perhaps that was their intent all along, make a bad default costume to force you to buy DLC! xD

I do really like the first one. Second one is alright too.

  • http://twitter.com/StizzyStrawHat Stizzy Straw Hat

I like the dark blue suit. The style (the button layouts) reminds me of the U.S. Army uniforms in the mid 1800s.

  • AzureNova

The second outfit for me because I like the color scheme and it stands out more to me. Yuko Oshima is a really good designer and I hope we can see more of her designs in the future. ^_^

  • darkbartz

I much prefer the first one. Although the second is nice and all (it also gives me a Velvet vibe), the first one looks cooler and fits adventuring much more. The Red Riding Moogle is much more adorable compared to the other one.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Max-Lestage/100001999473380 Max Lestage

Is it possible to get both? Because I can’t choose.

  • puchinri

Looks like she’s channeling Princess of the Crystal and Akazukin to me.
The outfits are kind of cute though. But the lack of actual material feels like a cop-out.
The moogle is absolutely adorable in the outfits though. x’D

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=685220688 Vince Vazquez

I like the first one for Serah and the second for her Moogle. Guess I’m just difficult that way :)

  • Zephyr2010

Number 2 pretty much reminds me of Fairy Tale from Resident Evil 5, except more practical.

  • pho_Enix

First one looks better in my opinion.

  • SilentSchemer

I like the first one is best, but I just wish they added hoodie from the second one. :D

  • http://openid.anonymity.com/5HuDuQyz Woot

    Black one looks epic.

  • http://twitter.com/IcelandicHossi Hossi Blumengaarten

    First comment here(ever)

I do not know why the Japs like AKB48 so much, Girls Generation is 10000 times better

now I hope the girl doing the costume does not stick belts ALL OVER because

    Princess Robot Bubblegum FTW!!!!

    • Enma_Kozato

Probably because Girls Generation is Korean.

  • Gatchaman1

Hey they coulda asked Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen to design the outfits (since they look like Serah anyway)

  • Enma_Kozato

It’s nice to see Mog doesn’t mind wearing a skirt.

  • Yu_TheKing

Why Vote? Just give us both :

  • Exkaiser

Oshima thought adding pointed shoes and a shield would make Serah ready for a fight.
Some shield. That thing is puny as hell.

    • Joanna

I know. And it’s funny how that costume isn’t that much more covered up than most other fantasy RPG costumes for heroines. Now if it was full body armour, then I could see the idea behind the costume. ~.^ Or perhaps I’m misunderstanding what she means there (mostly because it’s not a new idea for an RPG heroine to have better defence wearing less…)
