Resident Evil: Revelations ESRB Rating Hints At Chainsaw Enemy

Resident Evil: Revelations ESRB Rating Hints At Chainsaw EnemyCapcom hasn’t revealed too many of the monsters in Resident Evil: Revelations. Most of the screenshots show the Ooze, a new type of B.O.W. players have to fight in the Nintendo 3DS game. The most basic variant lunges towards players and chows on their shoulder if they get too close.

A scene where a character is sliced with a chainsaw suggests players will fight some kind of monster wielding a chainsaw and the ESRB specifically mentions zombies. However, they might have clumped B.O.W.s like the Ooze into the "zombie" category. An earlier rating for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D mentions attacking zombies and mutated creatures. However, in the ESRB rating for Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, the ESRB says "players kill humanoid monsters – they are zombie-like and infected with a parasite" referring to the Majini.

This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of two counter-terrorism operatives attempting to stop a bio-terrorist plot. Players use handguns, rifles, machine guns, and rocket launchers to kill hordes of zombies and mutated creatures. Battles are highlighted by screams of pain and realistic gunfire; enemies collapse to the ground when killed, dissolving into pools of blood and chunks of flesh. Blood-splatter effects occur when humans or zombies are attacked, and some characters are depicted with exposed organs/viscera. In one level, a human character is seen getting sliced by a chainsaw as she struggles in the air; in another, a corpse with a mutilated face is depicted hanging against a wall. The word “sh*t” appears in the dialogue.

Yeah… In RE4 Dr. Salvador was a pain in the a**.

Gah, I never really liked Chainsaw Zombies, because I felt like they don’t make any real sense. It kind of breaks the laws of most zombies: they’re allegedly brain dead, and they have poor motor skills. They shouldn’t be able to figure out how a chainsaw works, let alone swing it around towards a target.

But I guess the whole Majini/Las Plagas thing attempts to fix that. So I’m down with that.

There’s probably someone round the corner turning the chainsaw on and
attaching it to the zombie with lots of duct tape before pushing him out
      to face you.

      • JustThisOne

Duct tape zombies are the best. :D

Also, that “someone” is probably Wesker. I mean, he had enough time on his hands to dye Jill’s hair brown, so why not?

      ESRB is your arch-Nemesis?

  • Solomon_Kano

Awesome. Still kinda bummed this is set between 4 and 5 though. I’d have liked to see them move on, but ah well.

That description actually made me a lot more excited for the game even though I’m usually not the type to really care whether a game has fake blood or some substitute or it’s rating. It sounds like the type of M rated title Nintendo systems have lacked recently and that they need more of.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Well it seems that someone else gets a gruesome death other than Miss Hair-piece-an’-Boobs did on the boat. Hope this game brings RE back to the quality level it somewhat deserves.

Thanks a lot, ESRB. I couldn’t help but read your spoilers. <_<

They are semi-spoilers I think. Because in their description, everything is blurry. “Some character” “A human character” etc… They even didn’t say the character is a he or she.

I do like how they have a huge description of the gore involved, then throw in ‘The word “sh*t” appears in the dialogue.’ as an afterthought. It’s almost like they’re saying, ‘Well, there’s swearing in it, but hey, people get cut up with chainsaws-we’d be swearing too.’

a human character is seen getting sliced by a chainsaw as she struggles in the air
Is they referring to Rachel!? I know she dead 4 sure, but still…

I’ll wait for Wii U version.

Definitely my most expected Resident Evil ever since Code Veronica.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Utku-Savaş/571425196 Utku Savaş

Wow… Is this the most violent RE or what. A corpse with a mutilated face hanging against the wall? Some characters are depicted with exposed organs/viscera? It is definetly “Day 1 baby day 1″! I can’t wait for it.
