Sony Splitting The Sly Collection Up Into PSN Downloads

By Spencer . November 15, 2011 . 4:00pm

Sony Splitting The Sly Collection Up Into PSN DownloadsAfter selling God of War Collection at retail, Sony released both remastered God of War games as separate PlayStation Network downloads. It appears The Sly Collection is getting the same treatment.

The Pan European Game Information board rated Sly Raccoon aka (Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus in North America), Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves as individual PlayStation 3 titles. Other publishers like Ubisoft and Konami also had a similar strategy of bundling remastered games for retail and splitting them up for PSN. The Sly Collection retails for $30. How much would you pay for Sly 3 alone?

Nice. I haven’t got around to picking it up yet, so options are always good. Then again, I need to conserve HDD space so I’ll probably just grab the disc. It’s guaranteed to be cheaper than buying each separately anyway.

Retail’s one also have Sly minigames though I don’t know PSN’s one will got it or not

I’m glad you mentioned that. I hadn’t even considered what would happen with the mini-games if I bought each game separate on PSN. I wonder if they just put them with one or spread them around?

Ah well, I decided to go with the disc anyway. I need the HDD space for other stuff.

Why not just buy the collection in disc, I’ve seen if for as little as $15 these days.

    • Solomon_Kano

Well, if you only want one that’s the only way you could get it alone. Cheap as the disc may be, you never know with folks these days.

Haven’t played the HD collection, but played the originals when they first came out. If Sanzaru Games can make Sly 4 close to what the first 3 were (especially number 3), I can die a happy man.

Well, Sly 2 is the crown jewel in the collection. There are too many characters in Sly 3 (although it’s surprisingly not that detrimental to things), and a lot of uneven quality in the campaign. They throw so many stuff at you that some of it is bound to be less-than-entertaining (like the pirate ship battles, which include a terribly monotonous boss fight against a Kraken). So Sly 2′s the best in the series, hands down (even with the awkward, un-invertable camera controls).

But it’s super smart to break up these things for downloads. If only to take into consideration the fact that downloading full games takes forever (as well as heftier indies, like Hyrdophobia Prophecy). God forbid you are actually dependent on the PS3′s terrible wireless, like I am. You’d NEVER have a shot at downloading the whole thing. Best to split ‘em up.

I think the 1st was better, more traditional. Didn’t care for the more open world approach or having to use characters other then Sly in the 2nd game.

Agree with what you said. Splitting them up also benefits people (like me) who have played part of the trilogy and would prefer to be given the choice of selecting the games they want. I’ve already bought the full collection though :p

Sorry, I totally disagree with that. I absolutely ADORED the first one because it was a traditional platformer reminding me of Crash Bandicoot, combined with some really good sneaking elements. Sly 2 is by no means a bad game, but it was quite a shift from its predecessor, copying elements from newer platformers such as Jak&Dexter.

For me Sly 2 destroyed the series turning a really puristic old-school platformer into a generic open world action adventure mix. The consequence was that I did not even play the third one.

I would definitely prefer downloading only the first one via PSN than buying the whole collection on disc.
