Serah’s search for lightning is part of the story in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Fixing spacetime is your other goal. Augusta Tower is a new building constructed by the Academy, the group Hope works for, and cracks in spacetime keep changing the tower.
By collecting out Artefacts players can activate Historia Crux gates and open paths to different times. Each area has fragments to collect and there are 160 total fragments to find in Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Monsters join Serah and Noel as the third party member. You can customize them by equipping decorative items called adornments. Nothing makes a ferocious Narashima look more frightening… than a red bow tie? Square Enix added a fair share of silly items like a party hat, mint chip ice cream, and a pink moogle bobble. Monsters level up when you give them droplet items and can infuse abilities into a new monster if you sacrifice it.
