Hyperdimension Neptunia Reprinted, Game Alone Is $30

By Spencer . November 18, 2011 . 5:00pm

Hyperdimension Neptunia Reprinted, Game Alone Is $30Hyperdimension Neptunia had a limited print run and the PS3 game sold out pretty quickly. NIS America dug a few more copies out of storage for Anime Expo, which were gone in the first day.

If you’ve been searching for Hyperdimension Neptunia head to GameStop. NIS America reprinted the game and are selling it without extras like the art book for $29.99.

Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 is on track for release in North America and Europe early next year. Compile Heart revised the formula with a Twitter-like world interface and a different battle system.

Good to hear. Now people can buy Neptunia for a reasonable price, and then buy MK2 later this year to support NISA for giving us these awesome games XD.

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Gamestop was rather generous with the trade in price for the title. I had to give it up, the battle system was rather slow for my tastes, even mashing and holding the fast forward feature. It needed a bit more flash.

Of course I kept the deck of cards…theyre awesome.

    • SeventhEvening

I sold mine for 75 dollars on e-bay, more than I paid. I just couldn’t get into it. Looks like I unloaded it at the right time.

  • AzureNova

I still have my limited edition, and I’m NEVER letting it go lol. NISA never dissapoints me, and Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 will be one of their best games yet. I cannot wait! =^_^=

  • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Neptunia was pretty mediocre, hopefully mk2 is better.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

I think it will be, but I quite enjoyed Neptunia myself…..even though there was a lot of Ecchi (rated T? Whew we! I’d fix that :P)……but I’m not complaining! :3

  • kroufonz

i enjoyed neptunia (the battle system not really good tough), also love tanaka rie nepu nepu and purple heart voice

hope this reprint can help mk2 sold better

    can’t wait for mk2!

  • http://slitherup.tumblr.com/ THRONE

Hmm… this is going to make it a bit harder for me to find the versions with the art book that some Gamestops still stock.

  • KotaroInugami

Whenever things like this happen, I wonder if someone purchased it for X amount of dollars right before they saw the article.

  • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

Always been on the fence on this game maybe mk2 will be better…

    • lordryo

Mk2 is better in every aspect. Anyone who enjoyed Neptunia will enjoy Mk2, and anyone who didn’t enjoy Neptunia will enjoy Mk2. :)

    Running to Gamestop ASAP!

  • Christopher Cates

The worst game I ever played through to completion.

I only played it because I think mkII will be fun.  But the gameplay was so bad, and the presentation was so bland.

I liked the characters, so that will be enough to give 2 a try.  I don’t recommend this game to anyone though.

    • darkraiders

I didn’t like the game either the only reason i finished the game was for the platinum trophies since it was easy took me about 15 hours in all and i was done with Neptunia and never touched the disc again.

  • epy

Oh wow. Dunno how to feel now about paying 70 dollars for the premium edition on ebay, especially when the damn Customs of my country damaged the box. Good news for those looking for it, the prices now on ebay are crazy.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

This game is still hard to find in the UK unfortunately. Whenever I find this game, it’s always from £34.99 to £39.99 which certainly not worth it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Too bad HN is a horrid game (gameplay-wise). I only still have it because I’m a Fahnboy and haven’t beaten it yet, otherwise i’d have sold it.

    • Go2hell66

Lol exactly, couldnt have said it better myself, pretty much the same boat im in

    • http://twitter.com/ExceptionL ExceptionL

The good of it is there, and the ugly is also very much there. I enjoyed it, and I Just hope the people who worked on it knew what they had done right and what was so obviously mediocre. Creating combos was fun. I hated that item system, and most the battle animations and environments of the dungeons.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Honestly, the only real issue I have with the battle system is that it’s SO…..DANG….SLOW!! On it’s own, I wouldn’t mind it, but it takes too long and takes out any fun to be had with it.

  • jeremy_germ

WHAT!? I bought it for 60$(80$ including import taxes) from Play-Asia only a month ago and now it’s back for 30$? Should’ve waited and wished. Man my patience…

Well, I guess I should be happy I have the japanese cover art.

    • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

Good things come to those who wait…

  • http://twitter.com/Nephlabobo Neal Power

Any idea of the release date?

  • Go2hell66

Eh didnt know it was so limited, still have my copy just sitting on my shelf, barely play the game

  • http://twitter.com/JezzSan Jezzy

I wonder if there is someone out there buying every available copy, and then trying to resell it at like 3x price later on.

    • Go2hell66

thats a pretty good idea :D

  • http://twitter.com/sheleigha Shel

There seems to be ALOT of hate for this game and I don’t know why I loved it! Maybe after playing 7 .hacks the similar settings didn’t bug me, and I had fun playing around with the customizing too, something I don’t care for much in alot of games. Still, I don’t get why all the hate…

    • Sorrows_Neptune

It’s a fairly mediocre game; not necessarily bad, but nothing great. I think some people are just so used to certain standards of quality (for better or worse), so a game like this ends up seeming bad to them.

Personally, I enjoyed it but I can understand why people wouldn’t like it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=685220688 Vince Vazquez

I’m with Sorrows_Neptune on this one. I will add that I believe it’s finding an audience due to extreme lack of competition. With most JRPGs turning tail and running to the PSP, there’s very few games on the HD consoles where western gamers do their gaming. And unfortunately, most fans of JRPGs would rather buy a newer game than hunt down something like Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey or something else excellent they may have missed a few years ago.

One thing’s for sure; not every RPG fan is gonna like something open-ended, grey and “realistic” like Skyrim, and they’re not getting many games made for them. Although I hope they try a western RPG someday; maybe something colorful and fun-looking like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. There aren’t enough gamers who seem to like BOTH types of RPGs…

      • FireCouch

I love RPGs and Western RPGs, but there are a couple of reasons why I would never play this game.

First of all, the art style, humor, and general direction of the game is absolutely awful in my opinion.  I can’t stand that stuff, and so many of the recent RPGs on PS3 are like this.  Atelier games and this are an example.

Another reason is because this game is, from what I heard, lacking in most areas in the gameplay department.  It’s just not a fun game.  The atelier series  doesn’t have this problem, which is why I would give that series a chance.  That probably won’t happen though.

        • Ladius

“Atelier games and this are an example.”

Atelier games and Neptunia are nothing alike, though.

While I don’t agree with the harsh criticism regarding Neptunia (especially from people who never played it, since they tend to greatly overstate the importance of fanservice while ignoring real issues like the share system), I’m the first to recognize that it was an extremely niche game with low production values and some hard to dismiss faults.

That said, Atelier games are on a really different level (especially Totori, Rorona was still a bit rough, especially regarding graphics), and they don’t share the same kind of atmosphere at all. In fact, you could love Neptunia and hate the Arland Atelier games, and vice versa, since their pacing, narrative style, dialogues, gameplay, battle systems and so on are completely different.

It’s sad that Atelier games being labeled as “moe” is preventing people from trying a polished, rich experience such as Atelier Totori.

          • FireCouch

Did you read my whole post? I get the sense you didn’t. I didn’t ignore the “real” issues of Neptunia and I never said the Atelier games are bad.

And yes, the Atelier games’ art style is preventing me to play the game. I have no problem with others liking the “moe” art style and atmosphere, as everybody has different tastes. It’s just not for me.

          • Ladius

I did read your whole post, and I got the impression that you are avoiding Atelier because you think it has the same general atmosphere as Neptunia, aside from its gameplay.

My reply was simply intended to state that they are not only wildly different in that department, but that their narrative is also nothing alike. Even regarding art direction the differences between the two series are quite glaring, even if some people will label both series as “moe” and avoid any further comparison.

In fact, the last paragraph in my previous post was meant to answer the “That probably won’t happen, though” part of your post.

          • Gatchaman1

I guarantee you will like that game (Atelier Totori) once you play it.  I swear on my 3D PS3 display you will.

        • Gatchaman1

Play SEGAGAGA. This was kinda inspired by that old game. While a standard turn base RPG, somewhere towards the end there’s a huge epic battle in the sky between classic Sega mascots (like Sonic etc) defending Sega against Dogma (evil corporate Sony-like game company) and the main hero rushes off in a flying coin operated machine that shoots in the air and then the game turns into a 2D side scrolling shoot em up in space where the enemy bosses are giant Sega consoles ranging from the Sega SG1000 to the Sega Master System to the Megadrive (with 32X transformation sequence) to the Saturn

  • Sorrows_Neptune

But now I can’t sell my copy for $100!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ema-Rose/100000917800035 Ema Rose

Cool, but the thing is I don`t live in America and there`s no Gamestops where I live. :,(

  • Locklear93

Hm.  Lots of dislike for the game in here.  I suppose I can understand that; the dungeon portion of the game can certainly be monotonous.  The fun of Neptunia, for me, is in the events.  I lost count of how many times I either laughed out loud at a line of dialogue or happily recognized a game reference they were making.  (The Tetris reference was particularly good.)  In a lot of ways, Compile Heart/IF  games like Neptunia work best when approached as a visual novel with substantial gameplay elements.

  • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

Thank you NISA!  I really need to be getting a PS3 so reprinting this and the Atelier titles really helps.  I would like the extras but it is the price to pay for being a late adopter.

  • Juuu

Awesome!! While Neptunia DID have its problems, it wasn’t a truly bad game. $30 is a completely justifiable price, especially for late adopters who don’t care about goodies like art books and merely want to try the game. I hope this drums up a lot of buzz for the allegedly much better mk II. :] And I hope this means a lot more people get to enjoy the game!

  • JustaGenericUser

I love the way Siliconera hates on this game so badly because of the art style and female cast. I bet if the characters were all Square-Enix style homolust girly boys instead you’d be slobbering all over them.

    • Bruce

It’s all about the gameplay not the characters .

    • aoihana

Actually, Siliconera doesn’t hate on this game. If you’re referring to it’s readers, then that’s a different story. Though, if you read the comments here, most of the people that dislike the game do so because of the gameplay and honestly, I understand why they would.

I don’t dislike the game as a whole, but I dislike the gameplay. The dungeons are rather boring and bland, and the battle system isn’t very good either. Combine this with the looping BGM and you pretty much hammer the last nail in the coffin(gameplay wise)

Believe it or not, I do love the story(VN) and characters, and that’s pretty much the only thing that’s been keeping me playing it.

MK2 on the other hand, looks incredibly awesome, and I can’t wait for that. (◕‿◕✿)

    • punkchobit

I bought it because of the art style. Bjt it was a boring game

    • Go2hell66

actually i like character designs, but character designs alone don’t stop this game from sucking, simple as that

    • Ladius

I don’t think Siliconera users hate Neptunia, in other comment sections there was a lot of love for the game, even if no one has tried to hide its shortcomings. Also, it isn’t like Square-Enix games haven’t their share of criticism and hating.

In this particular comment section there’s a lot of undeserved hate, though, but since this game has already been discussed many times its fans are probably not eager to re-enact the same script another time. I hope readers are able to separate legitimate criticism from those who actually played the game from the extreme posts of people who never played it or barely started the game. Also, while the game has surely some glaring gameplay flaws, I think most of the hate around it (especially from the vocal majority who didn’t buy it) is indeed based on character design and the perceived importance of fanservice.

That said, let’s hope Neptunia Mk2 manages to be less polarizing.

    • http://twitter.com/ninoislucky Nino Topalcevic

The amount of hate I’m seeing here is about as equal to the amount of hate I see directed toward FFXIII and it’s spawn (For the record I think the game is boring as hell) so I’m not sure what you’re going on about.

Actually, I think I do. You sound butthurt that people are hating on your lolicon weeaboo-catering game. Too bad, kiddo.

  • Zephyr2010

Good god, finally!  I’ve been hunting this game for a while.

  • Learii

wow look like alot of ppl love the limted edition

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UJCAWN7NXD2ZGJWC2RHYYPOZ2Y Arjon Iiano

yes please! I’ve been looking for a copy of this game at any local video game store but didn’t find any. the only copies are those with special artbooks and they we’re out of stock already. :(

  • kupomogli

Needs to be reprinted for $1.  Then it’d be worth it… as a coaster.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Though I bought it at launch, I haven’t played it yet (and several other games). Will I get the references easily (like internet jokes) or are they really all 2ch related? Thanks

    • darkbartz

Not sure about being 2ch related, but it’s a video game parody. It has more references to video games then anything else.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=20704987 Heath Bunch

Neptunia had its flaws, but that stuff was funny as hell. I always cracked up when one of the characters broke out a Sailor Moon or Lupin III quote in battle.

  • http://twitter.com/baYox kolibri

I REALLY disliked the game (with no troll at all, I love the idea of the game but i find it really poorly executed). I’ll pass for the second.
