After 30 Hours Of Final Fantasy XIII-2 What’s Next?

By Spencer . November 21, 2011 . 11:35pm

After 30 Hours Of Final Fantasy XIII 2 Whats Next?In an interview with Famitsu, the Final Fantasy XIII-2 team said the game’s story is between 30 and 40 hours long. What happens after you complete it? You can reload your cleared save data and warp back to the point right before you fight the last boss.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will have a lot of additional content released as DLC, the first pack being the Omega boss battle in Japan. More boss battles will are planned as future DLC. Square Enix will also release additional costumes. Some of the DLC will be free and other items will be paid. Select items will be pre-order bonuses like the Genji Bow, a special weapon for Serah. The publisher says they have no plans to distribute these digital items any other way. Square Enix planned enough DLC to keep Final Fantasy XIII-2 going until spring 2012 with monster or enemy packs released every two weeks.

Have Final Fantasy XIII save data? That will unlock an in-game item, and according to Famitsu players will get some kind of wallpaper.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 makes its debut in Japan on December 15 with a North American release set for January 31, 2012.

I completed the japanese version of Final Fantasy XIII but I’m going to buy the american version of the sequel. So would I still be able to access the in game item? 0_o

    • Andrew Austin

Probably not, but lets hope so!

    • kroufonz

if you chose to buy the asian/chinese version (the one with jpn voice and eng+chn subtitle) of FFXIII-2, maybe you can get access to the in game item.

since this version can load/continue save file of both japanese and us version of FFXIII-2.

    • mikanko

You should.  Save data between Hong Kong, American and Japanese versions of FFXIII is interchangeable.  I’ve loaded save data between all three versions without fail if memory serves.

edit: After reading Aoshi’s post, I guess it might

      • Aoshi00

I dunno about the HK ver.. but my Jpn and US PS3 ver didn’t share the same game saves.. I made like 80+ saves for each of them saving before cutscenes lol…

I have the same dilemma too.. I’m importing the Jpn ver on PS3 and had the Jpn ver of 13 so no prob, but this time I’m getting the US 360 ver and only had Jpn Int’l ver… hope it could read my file on 360 but I doubt it..

        • mikanko

Weird, it must just be the Asian version sharing game saves with the other two then.  I know the game saves between the JP and Asian release went with each other, and I had heard the US version carried over as well.

        • Eddie

This sucks…. I have the japanese version on ps3 and the american version on xbox 360. I planned on buying the american version of the sequel on ps3. Maybe I’ll just do a repeat.

          • Eddie

BTW thanks for all the help guys

          • Aoshi00

Yeah, if you’re getting both the Jpn & US ver anyway, you might as well stick w/ the same platforms you got the original 13 for, import 13-2 on PS3 and get the US ver on 360 same as before so each ver could use the clear saves.. and this time the game will be on 1 disc for the 360 ver as well..

I’m importing the Jpn PS3 ver and getting on the US ver on 360 too, the only thing is the US ver probably can’t load the save from the Jpn Int’l ver..

    • Aoshi00

I don’t think so.. the Jpn and US PS3 ver. use completely separate set of saves, I made almost 100 save files for each ver of the game, each ver doesn’t read the other’s.. so might not work w/ the sequel across region btwn US & Jpn ver, I dunno about the HK ver..  I’m getting the US game on 360 this time and I only had Jpn saves for that before too from the Int’l ver.. usually DLCs don’t work across US & Jpn ver either..

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

It took me 60 hours to get through FFXIII, Sequels are usually longer than their successors, Im going to miss the additional 20 hours of content ;(

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

      60? It took me over 100. :P

Anyways, they said that they will have a HEAP load of DLC, making the content much larger and longer. Plus, the extra bosses (which they also said that there will be many more at higher difficulty), should satisfy you even more.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

It’s an Estimate. 13 doesn’t really take 60 hours and there’s probably more content in 13-2, so don’t worry.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

I don’t even want to look at my total game play for the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII… I still haven’t completed all the side quest. I’m glad that the game is 30 hours.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

In short, it’ll be like the classics, right? :) (Final Fantasy 1-11)

If it is, well then that’s just fine. If not, well……this game’s still gonna kick butt. I’m looking forward to the DLC it will have. I’m gonna have such a blast with this game!

BTW, I wonder if they’ll add Shinryu, Chronodia, and/or Ultima Weapon as extra bosses for DLC as well since they’re adding Omega in? That would be sweeet!

    • godmars

When did the “classics” have anything more than a game+?

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Maybe I shouldn’t have said that, but what I meant is that you clear the game, then it warps you back to the place where you face the final boss, then  you can do other stuff, such as prepare for the extras. Either that or my memory isn’t serving me well.

        • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Unfortunately your memory is serving you very wrong. Are you sure you are not from a parallel universe? XD

Anyways from 1-9 you don’t have a NG+. 10 allows you to understand al bhed if you got all the books in your previous run.

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

UGH! I really hate myself now!

          • WilliamJasper

Michael? From a parallel universe? lol I can agree to that. XD

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

(ಠ_ಠ) Must you tick me off even further? I really don’t want to type another “reporter joke” on you because that takes a lot of time and space on here mister. So instead, I’ll just post this video here and say that I’ll do to you like the woman here in this video (no it’s not nasty).

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to1UUaV1UzY

        • PersonaBull

To be clear, it doesn’t “warp” you anywhere, it just doesn’t save the fact that you actually beat the final boss.

        • Joanna

I think you’re thinking of the remakes. I know Dawn of Souls (FFI +II) warped you to the first town/castle after you beat the final boss and you could then do the extra caves if you haven’t already, or just complete the game again. FFIII for DS has a similar feature except it doesn’t make you restart the story like FFI did and you can basically max out all your jobs and go after the Mog Mail bosses or whatnot.

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Oh my! Yes, those are the ones! So my memory isn’t bad. Just thought of the wrong versions of the games. Thank you so much! X3

          • Joanna

haha, no problem. It was fresh on my mind because I recently got around to finishing both games on the collection. :)

    • WilliamJasper

Oh……I don’t remember the classics having that feature…..at all. lol Poor Michael. It’s okay. We all make mistakes. :3

The DLC bosses certainly is a great idea there.

      • Alexis Matthews

*Ahem* Must I warn you not to make Michael even a little upset? o.o Oh, “good” memories……..

  • Exand

Took me about 45 hours to finish the main story in FFXIII, and in total I think I cleared everything after about 80 hours, so I’m going to guess FFXIII-2 is going to be similar.

Can’t wait to wash FFXIV’s taste out of my mouth!

    • http://twitter.com/wishingW3L WEL

45 hours for main story? No way! I beat the game around 25 hours and I was taking my time leveling up until the level cap of each stage. And is not like you can get lost in the game doing other stuff since the entire game is just one straight line corridor from beginning to Pulse and from Pulse to end.  =/

      • Exand

I took my time by doing a lot of the side quests on my initial clear, so the time is a little bloated. And the rest was a lot of grinding to get weapons and things. If I had to hazard a guess it was close to 30 hours to play through the story for FFXIII. So that sounds about the same as what’s in store for FFXIII-2.

  • IceRomancer

Hope there’s a little extra after the final battle already on the disc. Like some missions or an adamantoise like enemy. Just no farming for rare drops from them :((

  • Andrew Austin

Wait. Won’t this game have multiple endings? But no inclusion of a newgame+ mode?

    What the hell?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Farid-Belkacemi/1073052585 Farid Belkacemi

It will have multiple endings, the staff called them Paradox Endings. And the cleared save could be considered as the NG+ : it adds new endings + u can play as u like with the historia thing..

  • kroufonz

no problem with 30-40 hours for main storyline.

wallpaper? seriously? at least make it XMB theme square:(

    • Aoshi00

360 got gamer pics last time compared to wallpapers..  would be cool to get some unlockable avatar awards.. was hoping MGS HD Collection had the Metal Gear Ray and Shagohod, but they’re sold for 400 pts each in the US (free in Jpn as 2/3 and PW are separate releases)

  • http://www.ukanime.com abigsmurf

If there’s any evidence of them removing end game content so they can sell it as DLC…

This may go behind Atelier Totori and Tales of Graces in my gaming queue (especially given that all Square-Enix titles get massively reduced very quickly in the UK)

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

Oh , I can’t wait to play this. 30-40 is perfect gameplay time of a RPG for me , 20 is to short 50-60 is long for me and 70-80 is way too long. But , I’m sure it’ll took more than 40 for me to finish this , it tooks me 50 hours to finish in XIII and 120 to complete all trophies. Oh , and the bonus sounds good too , all great.

    • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

and here I am, playing 130+ hours of xenoblade and not even finished yet.

      • http://twitter.com/Cudgeon Raji

Yeah, but Xenoblade is more or less a single player MMO. Meaning the exact same boring fetch quests as in WoW (well, at least at the beginning, I read that they changed that down the line).
And no, I’m not saying I disliked it, just that it isn’t a miracle to have 120+ playtime on a game that has such low standards for quests. Better having 30 hours game that actually has good quests.

        • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

          Wat ಠ_ಠ
I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about..First of all, Xenoblade is NOT an MMO.
Second, the quests are story-related and not just another quest to get petty items. Quests also give insight of background stories, secrets and determines the fate of some non-player characters. It’d be more meaningful to defeat a miniboss in a quest rather than not (yes, you still can kill a miniboss without a quest trigger in xenoblade)

Really, you should be ashamed of yourself. Unless you live in Northern America.

          • badmoogle

He said it’s a SINGLE player MMO and really that’s what it is.Which is not a bad thing since MMO’s have also lots of great aspects such as freedom for example.

About the quests some are indeed story related but as Raji said there are also tons of fetch (item/monster) quests in it which i think they are a cheap way to lengthen the game time for those who are completionists.Personally i don’t mind them since they give me even more incentive to explore its beautiful world and discover secret locations, characters, items etc. There are also the quests that challenge you in order to beat a special monster that is normally a couple of levels higher than you which i think adds some variety to gameplay.Although as you said you can challenge these monsters even without getting the quests.

So i really don’t understand why Raji should be ashamed of himself,he offered a very valid opinion.I absolutely LOVE Xenoblade and i think it’s miles better than anything SE has done in this generation so far but it’s not perfect.

          • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

Xenoblade is not an MMO. MMO as in Massive Multiplayer Online. It’s not an online game. Opinions differ but yeah there are tons of fetch quests.

  • TheDarkEmpress

    What’s next? Versus XIII. Thanks.

    • badmoogle

The only reason i can’t wait for XIII-2′s release is because that will mean the start of incoming news regarding Versus and SE will finally focus 100% on it.

      • MrDolomite

Funny. I thought they would’ve been 100% focused on Versus XIII after XIII came out.

        • Yu_TheKing

Versus seems to be the bottom of their priority. I’m still gonna be pumped for whenever Versus comes out.

          • darkraiders

I waited for Versus for so long and i’m not waiting anymore when it will be released i will buy but no more waiting.
And after all the time i have waited for that game i’m started to think S-E is waiting for the next generation before release.

    • SilentSchemer

Thank you. Thank you so much.

  • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

I haven’t played XIII, do you think it’s worth it to play? I’ve lost trust in the franchise since XII…

    • badmoogle

It’s kinda strange that you have a Xenoblade avatar and at the same time saying you didn’t like XII…

As for XIII,if you didn’t like XII then you’ll probably love XIII since it’s the exact opposite in terms of almost everything. The only thing common is that both games have uninteresting characters IMO.In XIII’s case i think this aspect is a bit worse since i also hated most of the english voice actors.

      • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

Well, a game is not all about battle system, no?
I loved the new battle system in XII, but storyline, plot and character developments are very lacking. Music in XII also doesn’t feel like Final Fantasy at all. But all of those are merely my two cents.

Xenoblade, (since you bring it up ;) ) has all of those qualities topped up (except for (super) pretty graphics, but who cares), and battle system in XII, albeit sounds the same with Xenoblade when compared is very plain and slow. But that’s another story.

The only FF I’m waiting for now is Versus XIII, which is directed by Nomura, compesed by Shimomura, and written by Nojima. If I want another FF, this core team is the one I’d trust. Maybe it’ll feel like Kingdom Hearts, but to hope that ‘feel’ from classic Final Fantasies without Sakaguchi is just not possible :(

But yeah, since I got a positive opinion about XIII, maybe I’ll try to rent it first afterall. Thanks!

        • badmoogle

I never said i have a positive opinion for XIII.I said that if someone doen’t like XII then he would normally  love XIII since they are very different games.

Personally i loved XII (even with all its shortcomings) so you can guess my opinion about XIII…

And btw i loved Sakimoto’s music in XII just as much as i loved Hamauzu’s in XIII.I think music is one of the (few) elements that constanly remained at high quality in every FF so far.

    • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8wQURL-xG4&feature=related Kira

Well for sure XIII-2 will a great game you haven’t play XIII but as the badmoogle say you probably love XIII and if you are a fan of FF series is worth playing

      • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

I’ve been a fan since the 1st FF, my favorite is VI and IX. But I lost hope since XII.. :( Doesn’t feel like FF anymore to me.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

XIII is a huge improvement from XII. For example, while the characters in XII were a series of cardboard cutouts, surrounding Balthier, in this one, every character has a distinct personality. The only thing is that you’ll probably hate Hope at one point in the game. Whether he’ll grow on you changes from person-to-person, but most people will hate him as much as they hated Vaan.

          • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

That’s a good thing to hear. Although some of my friends say it’s a waste of time, I’d definitely try XIII now, thanks!

  • http://bluehighwind.blogspot.com/ BlueHighwind

    Type-Zero please?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6GEPV2ZENH3C77X4HZXKHRA3EM Derek

It’s certainly not worth NOT playing.

Don’t expect it to be amazingly good, but don’t pull that “lol I lose hope in franchise I no buy games no more” bullshit, it’s really not that bad and you’ll get more than enough enjoyment out of your playthrough of it.

    • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

When you know you have other better games to play (i.e. games which are ‘amazingly good’), you know you have to be really selective to buy and play the game. Time and money are precious.

    • mirumu

Maybe you will get enough enjoyment out of it, I hope you do, but don’t assume we’ll all feel that way. I loved many of the now classic FF games, and kept buying them up to FF XII, but didn’t enjoy any of them since IX. I don’t think anyone could acuse me of not giving the series a fair go, but eventually I just got sick of wasting my time and money.

Actually when I eventually got around to playing Lost Odyssey in the last year or so it felt far more like a Final Fantasy game to me than anything Square Enix have released in the last 10 years. Wish I’d played it earlier.

      • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

Sakaguchi Touch, I guess. I’m looking forward to The Last Story!

      • noxian

that having been said, “more like a Final Fantasy game” pretty much meant Lost Odyssey was nothing spectacular to anyone other than the people who were looking for nothing more than another JRPG that dotted it’s Is and crossed its Ts, but did nothing more and did little amazingly well.

by “more like a Final Fantasy game” pretty much meant other than graphics, Lost Odyssey gave us little more than what FFVII gave us 14 years ago.
of course, considering the population of people that think S-E should do nothing but re-do FFVII anyway…

        • mirumu

Well that’s certainly not what I meant by that statement, and Lost Odyssey’s graphics don’t impress much by today’s standards (when I actually played the game) but I digress. You do bring up an interesting point. In my opinion modern Final Fantasy titles have stagnated to be something less than what FFVII gave us 14 years ago when compared with other titles of their respective times. The graphics are still there, but in most other respects the series is diminished. Not diminished when compared with traditional JRPGs, but when compared with modern games in general.

As I said I haven’t played FF XIII, but otherwise over the last decade the battle systems, stories, characters, and well…soul…of FF games appeared to deteriorate with each release. FF XII itself felt like a parody of a FF game rather than a successor, and in those key areas Lost Odyssey succeeded better in varying degrees. I think feyrbrandsou is on the money attributing the FF feel of it to Sakaguchi’s touch. The memory sequences especially were done “amazingly well”. Was LO better due to actually making marginal improvements to the old formulas rather than watering them down or outright breaking them? I would say yes. Would it have been better if LO had actually advanced/modernised the genre further and actually eliminated some of the old JRPG baggage? Again I’d say yes, and it would have probably attracted higher sales, but for whatever reason they didn’t.

To be clear I don’t think LO was a good game because of it’s traditional style, but rather in spite of it.

  • SolNeko

the first one had no replayability imho and i doubt this will either.
i wish that Square wouldnt go crazy with the main series sequels, theyre always whacky and ruin the storyline like FFX-2, although i did enjoy FF7DoC :)

    • http://aptx4869.co.nr feyrbrandsou

I know! I really enjoy X, but after an hour of X-2, I decided not to play the game anymore…

But welp, it’s Final Fantasy! However bad it is, it still will get an 8+/10 rating :D

  • PrinceHeir

“The publisher says they have no plans to distribute these digital items any other way”

this is what i feared :

so basically if i choose to pre order at best buys(translated Episode I Novella) that means that if i don’t pre order at amazon i won’t be getting the omega coliseum???

and they won’t making this available via DLC later???

come on now square :(i was hoping you won’t pull a dissidia duodecim on us. to this day the pre order costumes from Gamestop are NOT available at PSN.

  • l777l

Way too much DLC. I don’t like that and their plan to release a new main FF title at least every two years (not to mention generally moving away from turn-based combat). The complete and balanced titles of the past appear to be the last of their kind. Hopefully FF Versus will remain largely unaffected by their changing business strategy. But it already seems seems to have undergone westernization.

  • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Freaking DLC, i’d rather have costume DLC than monster DLC.

  • http://twitter.com/Sesshomaru47 Kaidan Roberts

DLC is fine any everything but will we even get it? Also will it be free for us if we do? Somehow I doubt it. Maybe on PS3, but I think the poor xbox user will get charged. I remember a free wallpaper on the PSN that Microsoft wanted 40 points for.

  • KyoyaHibari

30 hours!? pshh how long was XIII?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Utku-Savaş/571425196 Utku Savaş

      60 hours max.

    • Ryos

Not a whole lot longer if you speed through the game.  I spent 52 hours but skipped on optional content (as little as that was, lol).  I’m more of a quality over quantity sort of person though, 10 hours of awesome is better than 50 hours of awful.

  • Monsley

    God, do I hate DLC.

    • Ryos

Exclusive DLC you can’t get any other way is even worse. :|

I wonder if the extra boss DLC like omega comes with dungeons or do the just pop up in the field after it’s quest is started. Either way I can’t wait!

Not long enough for me… OTL. Wish it at least had 80 hours but not everyone has that much time to play games.

they say that the first FF XIII was almost the same in hours of gameplay 30-40, but me i have play over 80 until the final boss, without secret missions. So you can expected to play much much more. + there’s gonna be so many sidequests this time.
