Valkyria Chronicles 3: Extra Edition Has Six More MissionsSega is re-releasing Valkyria Chronicles 3 with additional content as Valkyria Chronicles 3: Extra Edition. This PSP repackaging has a lower price tag (it’s 3,990 yen) and six more missions to play. Three are brand new. If you have Valkyria Chronicles 3 you can convert your save data and load it into Valkyria Chronicles 3: Extra Edition in the game’s extra menu.

Look up at the Sky is one of the missions Sega created for Extra Edition. It takes place after Gusurg’s death. A woman who claims to be Gusurg’s older sister pays her respects at the funeral, but what are her true intentions?

More like Who’s Imca?, Imca’s a character in Valkyria Chronicles 3, she’s not a thing! But @twitter-368158268:disqus is delusional, she’s my waifu.

Considering how lousy and dissapointing VC2 was i won’t miss not getting this one over here. This franchise needs to go back to a home console so we can get real maps, not micro-maps that repeat themselves over and over like the ones in VC2

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Morandi/100000837836996 Daniel Morandi

And that’s a minor detail compared with other parts of the gameplay or the story. Pretty much my dissapoiting with VC2 was the setting and story but this time VC3 return to where it belong and has better things to show. There are people who claim that the third is the best in the franchine.

We need this game over here regardless your thinking and there are better chance to another secuel in consoles if not maybe on vita but with the real maps this time. I guess that VC1 didn’t sell or it cost to much to develop in consolas and that’s why they choose the portables, is more easy that way if the team can afford high cost.

      • Guest

Sadly there are no chances for more VC on a home console. The problem was that VC1 came out when the PS3 was expensive as hell. Even if it had came out after the price cut chances are it would still stay in handhelds.

Also, i didn’t even mention VC2 laughable difficulty, and yes, the lousy story didn’t help one bit.

    • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

I don’t think VC2 was a disappointment. Sure, it was different in tone from the original, but I really liked the cast, character design, and interactions between Avan and Zeri. And it still had the great gameplay, of course.

Personally, I’m just fine keeping the games on handheld systems…assuming they actually get released here.

      • Guest

        VC2 is:

-Easy beyond belief, zero challenge whatsoever
-Repetitive maps, and way too small
        -Boring story and characters

The problem with the franchise moving to a handheld is that we got smaller maps. This wouldn’t even be a problem if we had diversity on them, but we didn’t had any of that.

        • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree about the story and characters part. I found Avan to be a much more likeable and interesting character than Welkin, and Zeri and Cosette were fun as well, in addtion to the many other Class G students.

I can’t argue about the “repetitive maps” bit, but even with that, VC2 is leagues better than many other games. With the Vita’s power, however, I think the map issue could be resolved, and there would be no problems with a new handheld VC.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Its comments like this which is why the didn’t bring 3 to the states in the first place because so called ‘fans’ like you bitch and moan over it not being on the console. The story wasn’t that great in VC2 but it was alright I have VC3 and by far it does a better story then 2 and 1 itself. Tho judging by your comment you wouldn’t support it do to it being on the psp and now everyone body is all mad that its not state side…hmmm I wounder why.

      • Guest

Yeah, why would i dare to want to play a game on a bigger screen, because the vg gods know the repetitive ant-size maps in 2 were fantastic. I should just take whatever vg companies throw at me and eat it like a rabid dog. Making the franchise a handheld game did hurt the gameplay, which is my complaint here. I don’t mind games in handhelds, i do mind when the gameplay is not good, like the case of VC2, which i did bought by the way. The other problem was when the first game came out, that’s the one that should had got everyone’s support. The PSP is a failed system in america, and there was no way that the sequel was going to sell here.

        • sherimae1324

okay the PSP really have failed in the west.. but i cant help but wonder why do western fans keep begging for video games released here in japan and start complaining that game must be localized, and why it is created on a handheld? its because the PSP outstands here and the developers are japanese! why dont u go ask your western developers to create an ARPG’s for all of you….
oh i forgot western developers are pussies… they will announce a big shot game and then  eventually canceled it ie. ” elders scrolls: oblivion, black and white creatures, advent shadow, bloodrayne psp and so on ^_^

oh and we japanese do admire some of US influences but for me the only thing that we japanese cant beat in the US is that… Awesome TCG made by the wizards of the coast…. Magic the Gathering!! that tcg cant be matched by any tcg in our country and i admit that tee-hee ^_^

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Morandi/100000837836996 Daniel Morandi

Oh I knew it. Sega was waiting this version to bring VC3 extra in america. Everything makes sense now.

Oh but that’s just lovely …. WHO cares! bring this game to the west SEGA I think you made us suffer enough Im sorry for making fun of post Dreamcast Sonic , seriously VC2 was so awesome! at least put it on the Vita on PSN or something.

  • Natat

Aaaah but it still won’t be arriving over here, right?

The game(s) is fine. Perfect almost, albeit a few gameplay and character choices.

The anime, however, is not. Not by a long shot. Imho.

  • sandra10

How many missions does VC3 have in total? Despite not liking many things about VC2 (especially when compared to VC), the sheer amount of missions was fantastic. I played that game for such a long time, way longer than VC.

  • Luna Kazemaru

LOL way to throw that spoiler out about Gusurg siliconera

    • http://www.facebook.com/scottie.townsend Scottie Townsend

Ya i noticed this as well and thought that maybe Siliconera has lost all hope of localization and just said screw it.

Hmm i only play the first one… and don’t have psp
Is there possibilities sega will release upscaled HD version like mgs peace walker ?
    :?

    • sherimae1324

      i doubt that…

  • TheDarkEmpress

    So…why is this on a handheld…?

    So depressing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Morandi/100000837836996 Daniel Morandi

      Like I said before:
“I guess that VC1 didn’t sell or it cost too much to develop in consoles
and that’s why they choose the portables, is more easy that way if the
      team can’t afford high cost.”

I fixed my gramatic mistakes ;D but that’s the point Im getting at. Psp games sell very well and I think thats is what they like to do right now. But hey! you could have your VC2 and VC3 on psn as HD remake for ps3. Nowadays this is something normal to do.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Because handle game sell in Japan.

  • skymap

But are they on new maps? Probably not. Probably the same recycled maps the rest of the game uses. Not worth it.

  • fayt255

why is this not localized yet

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

    *Obligatory “Sega sucks”*
*Obligatory “Why is this on the PSP”*
*Obligatory “When will this be localized”*

Sigh… I can’t be bothered to muster up the strength to complain anymore. I’ll just be a peaceful citizen and throw my support behind the Gallian Liberation Front ( https://www.facebook.com/GLFront ) and hope for the best.

This is a business, VC2 sold poorly and therefore Sega chose to cut costs by not bringing the game overseas. For the people moaning about the game not being released on the PS3 instead, sales for VC weren’t stellar either. So really, if you want to blame anyone for VC3 not getting a localization (and at this point it’s official there won’t be one) blame the consumers for not buying the game~.

    • http://twitter.com/RefueledPants Jordan Slovsaki

I’d like nothing more than to drive a stake into the heart of every foul creature which bought the latest call of duty, but the casual gamers aren’t deserving of all the blame. Sega also handled the series very poorly from the beginning.

    • gaiajobagaia

Actually, sega said they had no plans for localizing it YET, and they also said it MIGHT happen at some point, Sega didn’t confirm it and didn’t deny it either, so basically there’s still a 50-50 chance, that much is obvious.

  • http://twitter.com/RefueledPants Jordan Slovsaki

I originally thought this was just plot-less extra missions, but all that story driven content, god dammit. The lack of support for this series (on both the consumer and corporate ends) makes me mad enough to kick a puppy.

  • YarboroughSales

Sega could care less about most of you people. From what I’ve seen, you get all bent out of shape over DLC. Probably wouldn’t be able to function in the real world.

    • mirumu

Perhaps, but at least they seem to use the idiom ”couldn’t care less” correctly. The colloquialism “could care less” doesn’t even make logical sense.

Sorry, it’s just a pet peeve.

  • cmurph666

Valkyria Chronicles 3: Extra Edition coming soon to North America… or at least that’s what SEGA should be saying, dammit.

  • z_merquise

The hell!? That’s what happened from Gusurg!? And he seems to look like a character I’ll definitely like. I’m not blaming you guys at Siliconera for that, this game was released for a long time anyway.

But hey, I guess it wasn’t as depressing as this game still getting no English language release.

Sega, if you are reading the comments here and in other gaming sites that featured articles for Valkyria 3, I’m pretty sure you were all aware now how much people wanted this game released outside Japan.

For the love of God and of the fictional Kung-fu Jesus, please do it!!

(Edited the post for Gusurg, to avoid, y’know, spoilers I guess)

  • Mister_Nep

Gusurg dies?! Oh my god I didn’t even get that far in the game. I wish there was a spoiler warning!

That aside I’m gonna have to re-buy the game to get these new missions. Being able to transfer my save makes it a less painful transfer.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

Argh , more mission and I don’t understand the language at all.

  • http://twitter.com/SEGA_PORTUGUESE SEGA_PORTUGUESE

I just hope this sells well, like the Miku game. Very happy to see SEGA doing the right decisions, putting a lot of effort to release games that appeal for a large audience here in western, like Football Manager, Total war, the alien game that will be released next year, Spiral Knights… Valkyria is cool, but if releases here, will sell 30.000 copies…so Valkyria for JAPAN-ONlY is the right thing to do.

  • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

You guys should blame whoever made the PSP unpopular in the West (I say Sony, didn’t they ignore the PSP for the PS3 even after launch?).  SEGA is just like the other big companies who hesitate on the platform now, even NISA is unsure enough to make BRS a PSN only release…

In a perfect world the PSP remains popular and we see titles like Terror of the Stratus, Valkyria Chronicles 3, Final Fantasy Type-0 and such in 2012′s lineup.  Now?  I’m lucky that we even have one interesting game after February…

    • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

I blame the people who claim they will buy a game, but in the end don’t. Japan buy’s their games so they get the privilege of getting more.

      • Luna Kazemaru

        THIS!! This right here.

      • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

Reminds me of why Shining may not get localized anymore.  Fans in the West care about the strategy games (which is only like a third of the Shining series total) and SEGA saw it as lack of interest.

        • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

Ugh I miss that series. :(

    • Guest

You should blame sony, because they have made a lot of mistakes with the psp. From the atrocious UMD format to the lack of good games at the beginning, among other things. Handhelds do good in Japan because they do sell games, and because companies there give them a lot of support, they don’t have the budgets to make games for home consoles, so they go for handhelds, which is what happen with the VC franchise. The first game struggled to sell in the PS3, so now it’s stuck perpetually on the psp and any other upcoming handheld.

    • http://twitter.com/nikochanr3 niko

Sony, who pushed ports as their #1 games (those of us who own a PS3 don’t need a watered down port, note nintendo alternates years (handheld and console) and makes game portable friendly, sony just makes watered down ports).  Also, the PSP owner who used their machine for everything except for playing purchased games (cough pirates cough).  Japan has Monster Hunter, Miku, things like that which are portable experiences first and foremost.  PLus the piracy was less (which i always think is because they pay for internet usage as they go which makes it harder to rely on downloads only).

    • Luna Kazemaru

To be honest its both sony and the people who own a psp fault. Sony because they did ignore their own handle in the western market like a plague and the games the release where not so good. I say blame the owners aswell because you know the pirates that pirate our games and the people who say they would support the game and not buy its *cough* like some tales fans(not all some). Hopefully Sony doesn’t drop the ball with the vita. Also Type-0 is a great game and  Senritsu no Stratus (terror of the stratus) is alright.

  • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

I just completed Valkyria Chronicles 2. This makes me sad but at this point I know enough Japanese to be able to fully enjoy it so I’ll probably import the regular version if it becomes cheaper. Play-asia, make it happen.

  • doubletaco

If only there were some way for content to be downloadable in some fashion! What a world that would be.

  • Christopher Cates

It feels like Sonic is kicking me in the face at supersonic speeds via Blast Processing!

    Thanks Sega!

  • Guest

I might buy the import, i don’t care about the story, i just hope the maps are not small and repetitive, and that there is actual challenge. The first game had good challenge, the sequel was so easy i fell asleep playing it.
