By Spencer . November 28, 2011 . 9:00am

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Is A Full Remake, Says KojimaMetal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima met with press in Japan to promote Metal Gear Solid HD Edition and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D. The Nintendo 3DS version of Snake Eater comes out on March 8 in Japan.

When Kojima took the stage he said Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is not a remastered version, its a remake created from scratch and optimized for the 3DS hardware.

Konami hasn’t said much about new features developed for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D other than bridges that tilt when you move your 3DS and photo camouflage for Snake.

AHH SNAPE AHH SNAPE! ITS A SNAPEEEEE! OHH ITS A SNAPEEEE!!!

  • SetzerGabbiani

Proof, Kojima-san.  We want proof of that besides bridge tilting.

    • kylehyde

If thats the case I think that Kojima will have to eat his hat (if he have one), because thet latest screenshots that appeared were not exactly of the taste of many people.

  • aoihana

    I can’t wait for Snake Eater 3D and it’s photo camouflage! (・`ω´・)

I will take pictures of kittens and make it his camouflage! (*^ワ^*)

Anyway, I’m real interested in whether or not there will be more features. Being a remake, I hope they squeezed in some more awesome features like the tilting bridge and photo camouflage. Either way, I can’t wait! (◕‿◕✿)

its nice that it is not a quick port over but honestly I stopped caring about this version the second they announced the HD collection for PS3 and PSV, just a better value for the money especially with transferable saves.

    • SetzerGabbiani

The fact that you and many others have said this means that someone in Konami’s business office needs to be fired.  What genius thought it was a good idea to release an HD collection on PS3 before the 3DS version came out?  They didn’t think one was going to cannabalize sales for the other?  Especially since the HD collection can be played on Vita.  Granted the 3DS version was originally supposed to come out this year during the launch window, and one can argue that the target markets are different, but I wouldn’t be so sure of that.  Anyway, a piss-poor marketing/business decision imo.

      • OneOkami

I was kinda surprised about that as well.  I personally didn’t plan on getting this version because Peace Walker on the PSP showed me I need a second stick (and I’m not buying the Circle Pad Pro), but even if I did, I highly doubt I’d buy this version now with a compilation of remastered version along with two other Metal Gear Solid games already out there.

I’d also find it hard to believe they’re banking on a large market of 3DS owners who’d buy this game but don’t own a PS3.

      • aoihana

The way I see it is that people that have a 3DS and want 3D, updated controls, and new features will go with Snake Eater 3D.

The people that have a PS3/Xbox 360/Vita that want HD graphics will obviously go for the HD collection.

Get where I’m going? I suppose people that already own both systems like me may be in a bind, but ultimately a lot of people will be getting both, if they have both consoles of course. I, personally, have all the next gen consoles, so I’ll be getting Snake Eater 3D, and the HD Collection.

Snake Eater 3D is of course in 3D, has updated controls, has a couple new features and maybe a couple more that have yet to be revealed!  (^v^)

The HD Collection has remastered HD ports, so I’ll be getting those for the pretty graphics and of course for the collection! I wont be getting Snake Eater with updated controls, and new features, but that’s why I have Snake Eater 3D, right? (◕‿◕✿)

My point is that the HD collection releasing before Snake Eater 3D doesn’t really harm sales, at least not significantly. Snake Eater 3D is for the 3DS, an updated game, HD Collection is for the HD consoles, straight pretty ports. A lot of people will be getting both, I’m proof of that! 。◕‿◕。

That’s how I see it, imo.

If only they didn’t announce a Vita version because 3DS version would be the lone handheld version of the game which there are gamers who appreciate a decent portable version.

Besides, both versions don’t have Snake vs Monkey so neither are the best versions. =P

        • zweii

Please don’t keep repeating “updated controls” because its the same Peace Walker controls which is not a plus but a disadvantage. The updated controls used for this is the same PSP controls the everyone hated just a year ago.

          • aoihana

I say updated controls because it’s true; they are new to Snake Eater, are they not? I’m not saying that they are good controls, that’s a matter of preference, but they are updated nonetheless.

Also, controls aren’t limited to moving a character, but rather the interface, too. The touch screen on the 3DS will be utilized to make switching between equipment much more convenient than in the original Snake Eater.

I get the sense that your being a little hostile. I didn’t mean to upset, but rather give my opinion on the two games, they both have their points, which is why I said I was getting both. (◕‿◕✿)

wait didnt the vita also support 3D? dang it now i have get MGS3 3 times…

        • CrimsonalCore

          YES~ >w.<

I wish I could've encourage people to get MGS 3D, they did mentioned there'll be a lot of Nintendo refernece after finish the main story. Let's say that MGS3D might have a lot that the original don't. o,o Even possible DLC stuff on MGS3D as well. (I hope.)

This game is one day buy for meeee~ owo

Hm, personally I think it will make an impact on the 3DS version sales. Perhaps I am looking at this from too economic a view point, but if you have two products, one with 2 extra games and another with mild enhancements for around the same price, logically the one with two extra full games will win out. This is operating under the assumption that people do not have the luxury to pick up both (which I think it’s safe to assume given the economy here and the pricey nature of games in Japan). I’m not saying some people will not pick up both, but I think these people will be the minority given that it’s basically the same game at it’s core and when you have finite money, it becomes harder to justify buying the same game twice in such a short period of time, not to mention the amount of content for the price is a lot better in the HD collection. So yeah, I do think Konami really screwed this up. It’s a silly move to make and they really are sending the 3DS version to die. I do hope I’m wrong though.

      • Sandeman21

that was most probably the intention.

they used the 3DS version to promote their HD version. highlight the difference between the old and the new. it’s a very nasty way to hit nintendo which probably put them in a position of hard to say no to make the game.

      Not transferable, “transfarrable” save

  • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

I’d get this if i didn’t already have the HD collection, who knows the extras may sell me on it.

  • http://twitter.com/mistermeemee mistermeemee

I love MGS 3 enough to warrant owning 3 copies of it.  Seriously.  I have the PS2 version, HD collection, and I have every intention of getting this version as well.

  • sinGestalt

Do I want this… or keep waiting for the PSVita version. Bahh by the end of it I’m going to be here with every version of the same game. *looks back at ever growing list of games to play* Uhh *plays MGS3 HD*

I’m really enjoying the HD collection, but replaying MGS3 is making me realize how much I don’t want to unlock all those camos again :

    • Exkaiser

      Of course you do!

Though some of them are really hidden out of the way.

    • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

Have fun holding up The End. :C

While I haven’t gotten even close to unlocking all the other camos, I’m already concerned about how fun/hard/infuriating/rawr that particular one will be.

I have MGS4 amazing game…this game will be good too

Kojima is such a demagogue… He speaks too much but thankfully he is one of the best brains in the game industry, so he is not an empty bag. But I think he uses his credit to talking. Show us some different and brand new stuff for MGS 3D for example. Why are you just saying “This is a remake, not just a port”? Do you think it will bring mystery and hype? Well…..oh, who am I kidding? Of course there is hype and mystery. I love Kojima and his works so much that I can’t mad at him.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to what is actually new besides the bridge tilting and photocamo-ing. And since this is a remake, that explain why it took so long to produce.

  • PrinceHeir

can’t wait what other things he might add on this game :P

What’s more better than having mgs3 on a handheld. You can play it nearly anywhere. :)

  • Sandeman21

yeah right.. a “remake” sure…  that all is BS! i don’t trust the guy any more! 3DS can do a lot more than just that and other titles have shown it!!!! It can do a lot more than gamecube, and if you see the gc version of MGS you will notice a very clear difference. that was make by SK though..

He was put in a position to make the game and he didn’t like it so he just made the game because he had to. there is no love put to it, and i refuse to buy it or any other of his games ever again! It is obvious how he is using it to contrast and promote the HD versions on PS3.

  • http://twitter.com/Xander_VJ David García Abril

Unless it has changed dramatically from the E3 demo I played last June, either this is the lousiest “remake” ever or Kojima is lying.

I don’t know which one is worse.

  • CrimsonalCore

Looking at this, seeing how Vita is getting HD collection as well, I have a odd feeling that this may kill the MGS3D that was coming out on the 3DS…

They do have another MGS in mind for the 3DS, but only the sales goes well, though.

I hope the sales would do well, so we can get another MGS on the 3DS. >.<

I first played MGS was on the PSP, Peace Walker. I. FREAKING. LOVE. IT<3 Hearing MGS3D is coming to 3DS get me excited. owo But while waiting for that game, I went and buy the original PS2 game and finished it. Loved it. -w- Of course I'm still buying the 3D version, I wouldn't mind playing MGS3 on the go. ;3
