Tekken Team Artist’s Take On Street Fighters Ryu And Chun-Li

In addition to the inevitable console port of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, the Tekken team is also working on Tekken X Street Fighter. Namco Bandai’s crossover fighting game will use the limb system established by the Tekken series.

 

What does the game look like? Maybe something like this. One of the model designers from the Tekken team drew Ryu and Chun-Li.

            Sorry, but Wonder Woman can just run away faster than Storm can conjure up the Ice Storm, and you can’t possibly freeze She Hulks thick skin!

            @aoihana:disqus Um….Storm is the goddess of weather, so she can be as fast as a cheetah if she wanted to, since she can enhance her speed with the power of the wind or whatever. Also, Wonder Woman has to get close, which Storm can stop her from doing, AND the only thing beside massive strength that Wonder Woman has is her rope. A rope. Big deal. LIGHTING! Burns rope. :)

            She-Hulk? Yeah, she’s very dangerous, but…..she can’t fly. Aha!

            Storm flew to the tip of the sky at the speed of lightning.

            She-Hulk can’t reach her!

            Storm’s charging her powers.

            Wonder Woman flies to stop her.

            TOO LATE! ICE STORM! Beats all. Win! X3

    If this is really what the Ryu and Chun-Li’s Tekken art looks like, then I officially declare that the designers of Tekken IMO are better than the designers of SF. These are fantastic!

      Yep! I bet they can get Chun li’s figure right. I was displeased at her SF4 art and model. Her massive hands and corrupted thumb really made me afraid of her. Massive thighs is one thing, but…….oh no.

    I like this!  It’s faithful to the original work in all the obvious ways, but I don’t think anyone would ever mistake this for Street Fighter art.  That’s exactly what I would hope to see in this game.  Faithful reinterpretations of the characters that shows a new angle that Capcom hasn’t explored.

    Key point:  Faithful to the original is not the same as identical.  I don’t want identical, and I think it’s selling the Tekken art team short if you ask it of them.

    Like this, especially the Chun Li one.  The artist definitely has a great understanding of human anatomy and the lighting/coloring of the face.

      Looking better than sf4 isn’t hard to top when tekken 6 looks better than sf4 graphics already.  Even mvc3 style looks better than sf4 even though some characters look odd in that game.  That said the artstyle for this is very good and I love it like I knew I would already.

    The art for Ryu is kind of hilarious, he looks even more roided up than usual. Prefer the art of Chun-Li here to her art in SSFIV.

    Tekken and SoulCalibur’s art are always awesome its the CG models that I find lacking as they never live up to the amazing art direction, at least imo.

      I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing their 2D art in motion in a game, but if that ever happened, the mechanics would definitely change. Still, I can dream, can’t I?

    Even goofy characters just shine in Tekken, and I can’t think of a Japanese game with better looking black folk.

    sadly, and just like capcom, they are playing safe, I was expecting a little more boldness or wackiness coming from Harada, an aged Ryu maybe, new costumes, I don`t know. Either way, I`ve always been much more excited with txsf than sfxt.

    I like their Ryu… but I won’t give any opinion on Chun-Li until I see them thighs. They are ESSENTIAL to the complete experience. No thunder, no go.

    Agree with what someone else said down here, that Tekken is good at modelling black characters who don’t look like offensive stereotypes. Would be fun to see their versions of DeeJay and Balrog!
