This Week In Imports: A Monster Title For The 3DS

By Spencer . December 5, 2011 . 4:33pm

This Week In Imports: A Monster Title For The 3DSMonster Hunter 3G launches in Japan this week, on Saturday away from other titles like Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi. Given the strength of the Monster Hunter brand in Japan, it will be interesting to see if Monster Hunter 3G ignites 3DS sales and if the Circle Pad pro catches on.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim comes out this week too and being the only Western developed game to get a coveted perfect score from Famitsu we’re curious to see if that will give Bethesda’s game a boost.

we all know how this will end 1 MH and 2 Skyrim

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rudy-Soto/100001518601121 Rudy Soto

Skyrim was good, but I would take Monster Hunter over Skyrim any day.

  • Solomon_Kano

Whoo! One of my favorite FFs is back!

  • aoihana

God, I’m beginning to hate these articles. (´∩`。)

Don’t get me wrong, they are informative and well written, it’s just that every time I read one I’m reminded of how little monies I have! (´Д`。)

I can’t possibly afford all these awesome games, not all at once, anyway! I guess when I get Mario Kart this week, it’ll take my mind off things! (*^ワ^*)

But then again…I may begin to hate it, too! Mario Kart is such a hectic, frustrating game! (◕‿◕✿)

    • MrRobbyM

“I’m reminded of how little monies I have!”

I’m with you on that ._. Not to mention I live in the worst place to find a job in the US(that’s actually proven). Oh well. At least Christmas is around the corner. Yay consumerism and well-off, Christian based family members!

      • aoihana

I know what you mean! With the Christmas season, it’s like I discover new found monies! (*^ワ^*)

        It’s monies I never knew I had!

        • Solomon_Kano

That’s the best kind of monies, friend. The best kind.

          • aoihana

Definitely, and I love spending it on Christmas, so it’s a win-win! (◕‿◕✿)

          • Solomon_Kano

It is indeed. Unless you ask your wallet, it may disagree. But who cares? There’s money to be spent! Games to be bought!

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

With so many games getting perfect scores, Im so glad to have entered the video game era at this generation. Everything is so quality that I love it.

The Oregon Trail is coming out for 3DS? I may have to look at it. I remember back in elementary school when we would be rewarded for having a green card (being a good student and turning in work) that we could play on the computer and play Oregon trail. I think that was back when there was that Frog Number Crunching game and Carmen San Diego?

    • MarkMario

Oh Carmden San Diego, how often I’ve gotten lost on what to do next on those games.

      • Solomon_Kano

I used to love those games! The show had an awesome theme song too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGufyFt6zQc

        Ahh, nostalgia break.

    • Solomon_Kano

It’s a fine time to enter, certainly, but lots of perfect scores doesn’t necessarily mean (more) quality. That’s all opinion anyway, but there are plenty of great games that don’t score perfectly from days gone by.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Don’t wanna sound pessimistic, but I don’t think it’s going to be “if” the Circle Pad catches as much as it will be “when”. Nintendo and almost all 3rd parties will borderline force it upon people to accept it until the new 3DS with 2nd analog nub releases. If you want a smoothly controlled gaming experience, you’re going to have to buy it and Ninty knows/loves the thought of that.

In other weirdly intriguing thoughts, I’m curious to see how Kinect Disneyland Adventures will do over there. (No, seriously, I am curious).

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

With speculation suggesting a revelation of a new 3DS revision right at the start of next year, I do not think Circle Pad was ever expected to “catch on”. I think its just here for people who want it for the here and now or that wont upgrade to the 3DS revision next year. Peripherals can never catch on when they are not required.

      • Solomon_Kano

I doubt we’d see a revision at the beginning of the year when some of the biggest games they’ve said will support it aren’t even coming at the beginning of the year.

Why revise just yet? KH3D and MH4 would definitely drive slide pad sales, but how do you do that if you leave it to die before those titles hit?

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

But MH4 is like late 2012 or even 2013, I dont think they would go that long without a hardware revision.

          • Solomon_Kano

MH4′s release is actually TBA at the moment, so it could show up whenever, but why announce support for a game that you know isn’t coming until after a hardware revision that kills the need for that peripheral?

I don’t doubt that Nintendo will have a revision for the 3DS on the way, but I don’t think it’ll be as soon as early next year. And, if it is actually early next year, then it probably won’t be as drastic as adding a second analog. I don’t see a revision til after E3 — what better time to show it off? They could even have some games ready to show on it by then. Unless they want to do another 3DS press conference.

          • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Hmm… E3 is going to be focused on Wii U, with some Wii and 3DS games, I’m sure. And if they’re already focusing on one new piece of hardware, I doubt they’d want to juggle a 3DS revision at the same event. It would be too much of an info overload. :)

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I think first half of 2012 is better for a revision, it would be one year with 3DS for JPN and what better way to draw attention away from their competitor by showing a shiny new 3DS revision.

Nintendo has announced revisions outside of E3 though so even if it were adding a stick why wait later than earlier?

          • Solomon_Kano

@Ishaan:disqus Yea, I figured there’d be more of a focus on Wii U, what with next E3 being its “full reveal”, but I was thinking anything was possible after they threw the Wii U’s announcement into last E3 whilst still trying to build up the 3DS. I figure it wouldn’t need a whole conference, but I suppose nobody can predict how Nintendo will go about it lol.

@tristtrist:disqus That actually may not be the best way to draw away attention. Some feel that it’s too early for Nintendo to do a revision at all and, with some of those parties just coming to terms with the Slide Pad Pro, they may not take such early news of a revision well. It would be great to pull in new users though.

I know Nintendo has announced revisions outside of E3 but, to answer why they would wait til later rather than sooner, it goes back to having more to show for it. What good does showing off a revision with a second slide pad do if you have nothing to show on it besides games we already know about? It’s possible Nintendo could do it before E3, but I figure they’d want to save it til they have something to show for it — if they show some new stuff for it that would draw more people than just going “here’s those games we said the peripheral supports, now without the peripheral!” Though, whenever they pop the revision on us, I’m certain they already have at least a couple games we don’t know about to show.

So… ah, I’m talking in circles now lol. We’ll just have to wait and see.

        • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Not just KH3D and MH4, but I believe MGS3D is going to use it as well. Imagine trying to be stealth with only 1 nub… It’d be like MGS:PW PSP edition all over again.

          • Solomon_Kano

Oh yea, that would suck lol. I left it out because I forgot when it’s supposed to come out though.

      • MrRobbyM

Which is why I didn’t bother wasting money on a 3DS. I just KNOW Nintendo will eventually make a newer model.

        • James Beatty

Just like Sony will eventually make a new PSV and Microsoft will make new models for their consoles. Nintendo isn’t the only one to do that. Also, it’s optional and it’s for the best. I also wouldn’t expect to see a remodel any time soon. At least not until the end of next year.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I thought he was getting more to the point that one oughtn’t get the first gen version of hardware?

          • MrRobbyM

See, you got my drift. Lots of people taking things the wrong way on this site lately…

  • http://www.facebook.com/mmillien1 Marcus Millien

Wish I could play MH on my 3ds, damn you capcom for region locking it.

    • Solomon_Kano

This is called misguided anger. Your system is region-locked. Nintendo made your system, not Capcom.

      • MrRobbyM

So much misguided anger tonight, isn’t there?

        • Solomon_Kano

Indeed. I wonder if it’s the weather? It is getting colder out.

          • MrRobbyM

Possibly. Seasonal affective disorder is more common than I thought.

          • Solomon_Kano

            Perhaps it’s contagious?

          • aoihana

You come up with some pretty interesting diseases! (*^ワ^*)

But this is the kind of attitude I have on Siliconera.

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DHT7b0QjW8

          • MrRobbyM

            I think it’s an ITD.(Internet Transmitted Disease). D:

          • Solomon_Kano

            :O Is there a cure!?

  • Happy Gamer

I have a 5 game rule for any system. 5 game I really super want to play, i get it. 3ds only has 1-2 for me so far but any monster hunter = 10 games for me lol
