Dead Rising 3 Is Set In California And The Protagonist Is An Auto Mechanic

By Spencer . December 8, 2011 . 2:28pm

Dead Rising 3 Is Set In California And The Protagonist Is An Auto MechanicDead Rising 3 brings zombies to the fictional town of Los Perdidos, California. After the zombie outbreak, the town is locked down and under martial law. No one can leave, but Rick and a group of survivors have other plans.

That’s concept art for Rick, the lead character in Dead Rising 3 on the right. He’s an orphan and works as an auto mechanic. When the zombie apocalypse breaks our Rick is unsure of himself, so he isn’t the same kind of character like Frank West. His plan is to restore a plane and escape Los Perdidos before a bomb goes off and destroys the already ruined city. As a player, getting the plane to fly is one of your main goals.

One interesting tidbit a source tells Siliconera, is Dead Rising 3 has an undercurrent of themes about illegal immigration. Another character called Red leads an underground group of "illegals," which are infected people that aren’t registered by the government. Annie, Red’s girlfriend is a runaway that’s sympathetic to the infected. While some survivors are helpful, others went berserk. One of the psychopaths you fight is a biker gang member who drives a "Roller Hog" – that’s a motorcycle with a steam roller attached to the front.

Phenotrans is at the center of the story. There’s a reason why Los Perdidos had a zombie outbreak and it’s a power play for the organization. Players will see Marian Mallon and a new bad guy named General Hemlock who kidnaps an important leader.

Whos gonna direct the game now that Inafune is gone ?

  • JustThisOne

A mechanic? Awesome! I expect much from the item creation department then. Also, I demand a giant wrench fighting sequence. >:D

The hero now’s an auto mechanic? No worries, I guess.

    ..Cause he’ll fix the problem.

    YEEEEAAAAAAH.

        Wesker stole it. Thanks.

Sounds weird… I’m not so sure I like the sound of this so far. Frank was so full of himself and such a douche, while Chuck was a loving father with a heart of gold. Polar opposites who ended up working together in Case West and have it end in a cliffhanger. I wanted them to continue THAT story, not go somewhere else…

  • Göran Isacson

The concept-art looks so realistic… not sure if I like it or not. Also- does that guy remind anyone of Bruce Campbell, or is it just me? I just hope they don’t leave a lot of plot-threads hanging… hate it when games do that.

    • Solomon_Kano

Me too! The first thing I thought was that he looked like Ash lol.

Off the Record kinda jumped the shark a bit with the…well I don’t want to spoil the A ending boss fight that I saw, but in my opinion they totally did.  The steamroller thing is more tame though.

This seems a bit more grounded like DR2 was, though I’m confused as to why they would use a new protagonist when there are 2 that have undisclosed fates.  They did this with the first one, but had to have not only a DLC prologue but an epilogue as well.  Since those two pieces of content sold well, Capcom will probably do the same with this one.

Overall, it looks like a good idea, I just hope they can deliver, and I hope that IF they make a Download prologue, I hope not, that it will at least have previous characters like they said “Case Zero” would have, but delegated it to Case West.

Wtf did I just read? Another new character? I thought we had an understanding that Frank West is the only one that can be the main character of this franchise, since they made OTR. Well I’ll just wait for OTR2, knowing Capcom it might just happen.

You are talking about Capcom. The company that brings more characters out of the woodwork all the time.

  • Thomas Maloney

Not sure how I feel about the description.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see what this new non-Inafune game is like.

I demand a Mad Max or a Ashley J. Williams costumes, this guy totally looks like he belongs in a Mad Max outfit, and, like some one already stated, he looks a bit like Bruce Campbell, so he most have an evil dead costume!

I wonder if they keep to wacky things of previous games? or will they try to go “western appeal” with this one?

    …The new protagonist should’ve been a woman.

    • Gatchaman1

yeah. Kinda tired of these ugly middle aged white dudes

      • http://twitter.com/SW_Sissel Joe Joe

Frank is, Chuck is not. He looks like an American Action Star.

I disagree. It’s not as much fun to dress a woman in drag. Clearly the protagonist for DR games needs to be an ugly guy.

so will the ps3 owners get completely screwed over again or can i buy first day with this?

    • punkchobit

Given off the record was just as bad, id say screwed again

  • TheMysticalNinja

    He’s covered cars you know

  • badmoogle

It gives me an 80′s feel which i like.

    Frank West isn’t a mechanic omo? I don’t understand; it’s like this character isn’t Frank West or something oAo;; That can’t be possibly happen after Dead Rising 2 >O>” Spencer question your sources harder until they reveal Frank West omo;

  • Solomon_Kano

I have yet to play any of the games. Not in full, at least (I used to play the original’s demo alllll the time). I’m going to check this for sure based on that concept art reminding me of Ash lol.

knowing capcom don’t buy “Beta” version first wait for another “off record” release
    ><

    • NTyron52

      I know right?

Capcom is the only videogame company to sell “beta” games that are actually worth to pay for and spend hundreds of hours into.

  • http://twitter.com/takenbymusic Silvio Carréra

    capcom is joke

  • http://www.facebook.com/D.Revolution.KMAI Kevin Mai

I’m not sure if I should take this seriously…. I personally think it’s fake.
I’ll wait for Capcom Vancouver to say more on this.

As long as they throw some Frank West in there I be cool with that sucka bears. The lack of Mr. West in 2 was quite depressing.

Am I the only one confused that there wasn’t an article just saying that there IS going to be a sequel?

I never even heard there was gonna be sequel in the first place. I’m sure there was going to be but this is pretty hasty.

    • http://www.facebook.com/D.Revolution.KMAI Kevin Mai

Yesterday on Dead Rising’s official facebook page they basically hinted at a sequel with the following post:
      “I’m
getting packing for my new adventure – camera, notebook and baseball
bat. What else would i need for a break in paradise? – Frank”
But this is totally unexpected and nothing like the post on DR’s facebook.

  • NTyron52

A new Dead Rising game? That sounds like a good idea, I’m really a fan of the series.

However I’m kinda afraid that the Dead Rising series is going through the Megaman X cycle… which I hope is not true at all, hopefully this game will have some more differences, and hey it’s not directed by Inafune, so I’d guess there will be certain differences compared to previous games.

I’ve always wondered why they create a new main character in every game, it’s kinda weird, but I guess this is something special within this series. It’s just so you won’t play with the same character again, to play with someone different so that it doesn’t get old.

A mechanic sounds pretty appropriate for the occasion. I really thought that the previous 2 had some sort of experience with mechanics due to the weapons that they have created lol But can we get some female love? I think that a heroine by his side would be fun! I really didn’t like the idea of 2 Chuck’s during coop

I don’t know why everybody’s complaining about a new entry in the series. New character, new setting, continuing story, what’s there to hate?

Now, Off the Record was different. I don’t believe Capcom’s intention was purely greedy because fans have been clamoring for the return of Frank West. They just capitalized on that demand. I don’t feel completely cheated for buying the game. It is a complete game after all. I just don’t think it’s fair for owners of Dead Rising 2 to buy essentially the same game all over again. I think a better approach would have been to follow Rockstar’s footsteps in Undead Nightmare. Retail disc and DLC.

I do hope for an entry in the future featuring Katey Greene all grown up. That would be the shizz.
