Almost A Minute Of Persona 4: The Golden

By Spencer . December 9, 2011 . 1:51am

Index released a mini promotional movie of Persona 4: The Golden, a PlayStation Vita version of the popular PS2 RPG. The one scene of Marie, a new character, in the video shows her shopping with the other girls. It appears other players can cheer you on in battle and that ties in with a previously announced feature where you can call for help when your characters are in a pinch.

Persona 4: The Golden is slated for a spring release in Japan.

    I like what I see.

I hope this game will come to the US ( or Europe, like Persona 3, thanks to Ghostlight).

    • Herok

think about this Vita is region free so you just import it from the US if we get it first.

      • http://twitter.com/Bazoo29 Nyx

Yep that’s a good thing (if only the 3DS was region free, I would take Devil Survivor Overclocked)
        Sure, I will import it.
But the other advantage is that if Persona 4 the Golden comes to Europe, it could be an opportunity for the franchise to be more popular.

Nothing we didn’t already see in that commercial a few weeks ago, sadly.

But with this preview we might start seeing more of the game more frequently, justl like the fighting game.

I would like to know more about the elements they’ve added to the game along with stuff they haven’t annoued yet to decide whether the game is worth a repurchase or not.

Seeing the same footage/screens over and over isn’t doing a thing.

Cant wait to play this, hope the localization is announced fast x0x

    • Testsubject909

Well, if memory serves correctly, one means by which P3P’s localization was leaked was through a sighting in one of the voice actor’s blog or site that he or she was doing work for Atlus.

So… maybe check there? If they’re employed, it means something’s up.

The graphics suck but the game rocks. In terms of graphics the game looks just like P3 for PSP. I hope they will do a port for PSP.

    • http://twitter.com/digtrioPortable Digtrio

That would more than likely be because the game was originally being developed for the PSP. :P

    • edennis83

Producer Katsura Hashino said that team Persona was originally looking into bringing Persona 4 to PSP. However, they wanted to retain as much as possible from the PS2 version, as opposed to some of the cuts they had to make for Persona 3 Portable. They deemed this impossible on the PSP. This is when they heard about the Vita, and determined that they could make something even better than the PS2 version. Hashino promised that the Vita version will retain the qualities of the original while also adding many new elements. • http://www.facebook.com/Chrome.Cell Bernard Yanga

Sux to be in this gen back when the ps2/xbox/game cube are reigning they didn’t care about the graphic they just care about the storyline, gameplay and music. Having a good graphics doesn’t mean to have a good gameplay like SMT:Nocturne it has a very simple graphics compare to FF but it’s much more enjoyable. Some JRPGers know what I mean ;)

      • Nemesis_Dawn

I think you’re looking at things through rose colored glasses. I remember back when I got my first system (a PS1) one of my friends not wanting to buy Wild Arms because it didn’t look as good as FFVIII. I knew people with Gamecubes who bragged about how the graphics were better than PS2, even if they didn’t have as many games as we did. People have ALWAYS cared about graphics. I’m sure back in the NES days, they compared graphics to the arcade editions or to whatever Sega had at the time.

Do graphics matter to me? No. But to the vast majority of people, they always have and they always will.

        • Mantiskilla

Haha yeah we did!  I remember when our family got the NES for Christmas the 1st year it came out we were all blown away how good it looked compared to our Atari 2600/7800 games.  Then, b/c of expectations of course it got compared to other things like when the Turtles II Arcade Game came out on NES some peopel were disappointed in it not having 4-player.  It was when Sega brought out the Genesis though was when you really started to see people say “WOW that looks way better than my NES. I want that system”  Of course back then nothing still compared to just going to the arcades unless you wanted to drop over $600 for the NEO GEO which was just way ahead of its time in the SNES/Genesis Era.

      • Testsubject909

We living in the same world?

I’m pretty sure people were graphic whoring back on the PS2/Xbox days. Man, the debates I’d get into at the local EBgames with the Xbox fans…

        • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

and graphic whoring in the PSX/N64/Dreamcast days too.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Roberto-Armando-Iraheta/775564143 Roberto Armando Iraheta

I see where you’re coming from, but it’s always been there, it’s just that now it’s worse than ever with the crazy high budgets they use now.

      • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

Uh….yeah they did care about the graphics. xD It’s ALWAYS been about the graphics.

    • papuruka

If that’s your stance on games, then you’ve missed out on some truly great gems from the past two generations.

      • Testsubject909

        Just the past two generations?

The guy’s missing out on 4 generation of gaming.

        NES/Genesis/MSX/GB
        Snes/Saturn/GBC/GG
        N64/PS1/Dreamcast/GBA
        Gamecube/PS2/Xbox/DS/PSP

If the only generation he can enjoy is the current
        Wii/PS3/360/3DS/Vita

Then I feel sorry for him…

Oh and. PC generations are pretty much equivalent to the console generations. For the curious, I’m mainly a console gamer, but part of my roots were in PC games, fond memories of Raptor, TES2: Daggerfall and Doom.

Not to mention he’s missing out on tons of great indie games if he’s that hung up on graphical strength over graphical presentation.

…Speaking of indie games. Ever heard of the Humble Indie Bundle? If you haven’t, go check Humblebundle on google. Seriously, it’s a good cause.

    • Testsubject909

The graphical power use sucks, the graphical design rocks.

Be careful when you use the term graphics. It’s an all encompassing term that not only talks about the processing power, texture quality and polygon count, but also of the design, implementation of idea into visuals and aesthetic of a game.

  • http://twitter.com/Zephyrsword Jessica

I have this game; I got given it as a birthday present when it was released in march, and I was lucky enough to have the game a few days after release. I had never played persona games before, but I really loved this game. It made me go on to buy other SMT games later.

I know I already have a copy of the game; but I’m buying this again, not only because of the extra bits and pieces, but just to show ATLUS that I approve. :)

We’ll finally be able to play this game portable in it’s full glory and more, thank you ATLUS!

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Yosuke and Kanji have cool pose. Looks nice, hope its as good as the lovely anime.

That was the best 44 seconds of my life! X3 I really can’t wait for this wonderful port!

    • Testsubject909

The best 44 seconds of your life? Only to date.

Wait a while, when the game’ll be in your PSV.

We’ll see then what your best 44 seconds of your life will be.

And I know you’ll eventually get a PSV and this game. Oh, I know…

    • Hraesvelgr

Not really much point in buying the 3G model, but… not like this is going to be a launch title, anyway.

      • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

        true

        • Testsubject909

Just get the First Edition WiFi version (Mind you, I live in Canada, don’t know if it’s available in the US).

Memory card included, First Edition holding case for your PSV, the PSV itself and the Mischief game for 300$ Canadian.

Can’t really go wrong there. The way I see it, it costs as much as purchasing the PSV and the game, and I get a free holding case and a memory card (don’t know if the memory card will be included in every PSV packages), and I get it one week earlier then everyone else.

          • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

that’s what I did when I bought my PSP when it first released. :) I hope the case is just as good.

ok what the hell ? Marie did nothing

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Morandi/100000837836996 Daniel Morandi

I though she was a playabe chracter D: that would be a total change in the story adding another character in the main party.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/HAEBCODVH3BGFIHE47BKNDXD2I Jonathan

    where my FeMC ATLUS? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

. . . that being said; it would warrant the 2nd playthrough

    and buying PSV

    • Fuze_and_Coil

Ah, I’d like a FeMC as well …with Naoto as an optional lover. In fact, I’ve wanted that for years.

Oh well, I suppose I’ll go cry elsewhere.

      • Testsubject909

FemC will never happen for P4. For P3, FemC was developed since the start, they just never got around to putting her into the game, which they corrected with P3P. You can see some designs in the original art book.

For P4, they built it from the grounds up with the idea that the protagonist would be male.

        • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/HAEBCODVH3BGFIHE47BKNDXD2I Jonathan

to me, that’s a lousy excuse. This is a port; an opportunity to add things that weren’t in the original at all. P3P added more than a FeMC, it added the card system, many new social links and characters, and even through in some extra challenges and personae.

A bunch of animated cutscenes are nice, but a FeMC would really sell me on this game, a game I completed and really don’t see why a adding a gender option would change all that much.

As for the Izanaghi thing; Naoto doesn’t have a persona based on her gender, and her persona has nothing to do with her particular gender-identity-issues, so again, what’s the problem of a FeMC having a male persona. Even P3P made  a “girl” Orpheus

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aunna-Terrell/100001267508146 Aunna Terrell

As much as I want a FeMC too, Atlus already said they weren’t including one in The Golden.

      • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/HAEBCODVH3BGFIHE47BKNDXD2I Jonathan

well, that ruined my expectations for getting a Vita at launch

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

Well, that would totally ruin the story, because Izanagi wasn’t a girl.

      • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/HAEBCODVH3BGFIHE47BKNDXD2I Jonathan

considering that you could have persona of various genders, and non-genders

        that’s really a non-issue

also; P3P had no issues with a FeMC

“ruin the story” is a pretty blatant excuse just to not have one.

        • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

          Spoilers.

No, but the story of P4 is built around the legends of Izanagi and Izanami, right? If you really get down to it, it was just a fight between a husband and wife (hah). If we get FeMC for P4, then we’d probably need to get a female version or something, which would sort of break that.

P3 was different. The personas didn’t have anything to do with a story.

          • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/HAEBCODVH3BGFIHE47BKNDXD2I Jonathan

            is that all? really?

*spoilers: do not read unless you know or want to know P4 plot details*

that’s a stretch, considering the whole story with naoto having nothing to do with her persona. . . or anyone else having much to do with their respective persona.

that plot point was a reason as to why izanami existed, like it’s stated in the game; she’s not really a goddess. She gave people Izanagi; and they used it differently. Also; despite being the mastermind, she has really no connection to the main character that would mirror the tale.

and again’ the Wild card user can have persona of varying genders and non-genders, so what exactly is the point of your argument again? I’m sure Atlus aren’t well known for keeping with source material 100%.

Hell, they even mixed up some of the actual numbers for the arcana.

    • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Sauna anime scenes warrants a life of servitude to atlus

    • Testsubject909

FemC’ll never happen in P4 due to pre-production differences between P4 and P3.

      • Sorrows_Neptune

What do you mean by that?

        • Testsubject909

Persona 3 in it’s planning phases had the concept of allowing the player to be either a male or female protagonist, you can see that in the art books.

Persona 4 though was built from the grounds up with the idea of a Male protagonist. There’s less leeway in the conceptual area.

Sure, you can squeeze it in, but it’s not the intended experience they wanted to make. So yeah, the odds are extremely thin they’d bother putting in the ability to play a female character. If anything, Persona 3 is the odd one out among the many Atlus games where you can actually choose your main character’s gender. At least within the SMT and SMT spin-off series, I can’t say for the entirety of all Atlus developed games.

This is one of my most wanted title for Vita: Gravity Daze, Uncharted and Ys are the others.

That being said, I just hope that Vita have some new SMT instead of ports and remakes. DS had Devil Survivor & Strange Journey, psp got ports with new feactures only D:

    • Testsubject909

Ys! So happy to hear more of it. Loved Ys ever since I played the 2nd one a long long time ago.

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

This and Tales of Innocence:R are the only games that would make me want a Vita, so I’ll wait for an european release confirmation thingie.

  • DanteJones

Not only my body, but the bodies of all my Personas are ready.

    • Testsubject909

You mean all the facets of your personality, ego and ID? Because that’s pretty much what a Persona is meant to represent.

  • MrRobbyM

This is THE reason I’m getting a Vita. Of course when a newer model is released and the price tag goes down a bit. It’s so hard to wait though because I have a new and sealed copy of Persona 4 just a few feet away from me

    • Sorrows_Neptune

Just play the PS2 version since you already have it. It’s going to a while since you get a Vita, so you might as well just play it now right? I mean, I bought the game shortly after the Vita version was announced, and so far I have no regrets.

      • MrRobbyM

If I do that, I’d be much less tempted to get the Vita version. Aka, the better version. I usually don’t play through many RPGs twice. Plus, I like the feeling of having something new and sealed :)

        • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

Persona 4 is worth playing through twice. ;)

        • Sorrows_Neptune

You might as well sell your copy of the game than, since it’s unlikely you’re going to play it anyways.

Damn why vita so expensive x_x
when the price tag goes down? lol XD

    • Testsubject909

Vita’s pretty damn cheap all things considered.

Either purchase it used, on a sale or in a year or so, that should be the only times you’ll get it at a lower price tag.

Personally, I made a pre-order for the First Edition package.

      • darkraiders

Yeah i also think the Vita is quite cheap but the thing that bother me a lot is the price of the memory card they are damn expensive.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_472QBVARRYERRGHATSUGCVCTTA Ian

Well you right That all things considered Vita is cheap but Tax on my country (Indonesia) is very brutal also the memory card factor all together makes Vita expensive X_X at least for me ._.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I imagine there will be lower cost bundles offered by holiday next year, maybe this will get an english version release in time with lower cost new hardware.

  • SuigetsuHiramura

I find it odd that a female character was added to the playable characters.  If anything, Persona 4 needed another male character to balance things out.  I like Marie’s design, but the absence of a FeMC is still bothering me.  I hope that when Persona 5 comes around, Atlus will add the option of genders from the very beginning.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

They can’t do that though. Its bad enough I have my friends trying to say Persona is a more Mature Pokemon game D:.

I like both Persona and Pokemon but still I dont like them being compared like that.

Wait. Persona and Pokemon both start with P

Damn this game and Tales Of Innocence R because of you guys I will need to get a Vita :D. In due time though in due time. I’m pretty sure this game is gonna get localized so no worries on that just have to wait. I missed out on the original P4 so this will be good. I feel the just like the 3DS the Vita will also be a handheld where if you missed games (like I did for Tales Of the Abyss) there will be ports and things all the better for me. Like this. :DDDD GO 3DS AND VITA

I seriously never considered buying a Vita. I have been happy enough with my PSP. But now that Persona 3 is going to be on the Vita I do not have a choice! >.<

  • Mikal

That’s a definite title for me, should I choose to get a vita. Still anxiously awaiting news of a 3DS Persona title, as was previously rumoured. x_X

Listen people, i am playing  a lot of retro games and i love them so i am not a graphic whore and also i have psp.Why i will buy a psp if i am graphics whore, if thats the case it’s probably better to buy new PC or PS3 but no, I just love the games.
And as i said in my previous comment the game rocks. But the graphics suck, and yes seriously, the textures are shitty. And i am not like annoyed about it or something like that. But the Vita is Next Gen portable system and its advertised for being a fu***** hardware monster and now in this trailer we are looking at game that is using like the 1/4 of what can Vita do if used properly.Thats my problem with the graphics. And yeah, i loe the art.I am big anime fan and it’s pleasure for me to look at it.Anyway, it is a must buy game.

  • http://twitter.com/kingkazuma1_0 kiran caelum

i would of been so happy, if persona 3 portable was made like this, i don’t like the light witch you controle, but in the tower you can control the person. i wish so hard it was for the psp and not the vita.
