Nier Director Yoko Taro Steps Out Of Retirement To Help Square Enix Social Game

By Spencer . December 12, 2011 . 3:57pm

imageAfter Nier was completed, Cavia was absorbed into AQ Interactive and Yoko Taro resigned. That was a year ago and he’s working in the game industry again.

While his role is unclear, Taro wrote in his personal blog that he’s helping Square Enix develop their social game Monster X Dragon. Taro says, he was requested because all of his previous titles have a dark and gloomy feel to them. It doesn’t sound like Taro is working at Square Enix because he mentions outsourcing this kind of work is unusual and usually his job would be done with people on the inside.

Monster X Dragon is hosted by Yahoo! Japan. The game blends elements of card collecting and simulation games. Square Enix tested Monster X Dragon in a closed beta, paid service starts today.
