This Week In Imports: PlayStation Vita Lands In Japan

By Spencer . December 12, 2011 . 5:00pm

This Week In Imports: PlayStation Vita Lands In Japan Final Fantasy XIII-2, a new Inazuma Eleven game, and a system launch on the same week? This is a huge week for Japanese releases. This week will be very very interesting. No doubt FF13-2 will be on top, though.

As for me, I’ve bought one game too many from the GOG sale today, so I’m gonna sit the week out, at least considering that next week should see the Steam sale starting.

  • jujubee88

You are tearing me apart Vita!

    Buying one, nonetheless. :>

  • papuruka

Screw this list. First game I’m getting on the Vita is either Gravity Daze or Type-0.

Wow the DS GOTY releases this week? Thats epic, Bakuman FTW. One of the few non battle series I love.

Anyway, I didnt realize the release of the ultimate in the next generation portable videogame entertainment was releasing. I cant believe that Ive been in gaming long enough to actually experience two consecutive new hardware releases. Its brings a tear to my eye to know that, wow.

The sales chart for next week will look quite weird with all these new releases, wonder which will be the JPN killer app. I pray Hot Shots, such a lovely game, the game that made me buy a PS3, and the game that makes me buy a PS Vita.

    • Vino (Tim N)

You really are an all around shounen fanboy =P I could never see Bakuman getting any recongnition as an GOTY contender in my books.

Its great being apart of the video game generation, seeing all these new hardware releases. My prof today though, ripped us apart for being apart of this generation since we go home and game, and not train for our profession. Has its ups and downs.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

My bets are FFXIII-2 doing 700-800k (for some reason I don’t see them hitting 1m/100% sell out first week).

IE:GO S/D will do pretty high numbers for being a game that doesn’t have “Mario” in its title.

Vita is kind of a toss up. We see it ranked high in gaming polls and lines being formed outside shops, but I’m hesitant to say it will start out of the gate with huge numbers and staying like that for months on end. If it passes the 3DS for the recent high monthly sales, I’ll be surprised. And I’m not going to even try to guess what game will sell huge there for the launch. It’s almost anyone’s game at this point…

    • papuruka

It’s all about quality, not quantity.

  • Aoshi00

Hope my copy of 13-2 would ship soon (getting regular Jpn PS3 ver and LE US 360 ver)… I was a little peeved I didn’t get the Sagittarius DLC and themes w/ my Saint Seiya pre-order… beat the story mode alrdy, it was quite fun and well done, more fun than the PS2 games.

    • Vino (Tim N)

You’ll have to let me know how 13-2 is. I did like the first one, but didn’t get around to finishing it.

      • Aoshi00

Sure, hopefully my Jpn copy would arrive before the US ver is out :).. I liked the first one OK, I hope the time traveling stuffs and visiting different environments would be fun like Chrono Trigger..

    • badmoogle

Will you import the Vita Aoshi? For some reason i was expecting you’d be one of the members here that were going to import it.

      • Aoshi00

Nah, this I could wait 2 months.. unlike the 3DS it’s region free, so I don’t need a Jpn system unless there’s like a limited edition or something.. still this cost $500 now..  I’m still having my doubts even on my US pre-order.. afraid they would drop the price shortly after release like the 3DS which many people regret getting day 1.. but I saved $10 using my Mastercard during thanksgiving on Amazon and would get another $10 back later, so it’s like $230..

There’s really not many Vita games I’m interested in at the moment other than Uncharted and Gravity Daze..  to be honest, I still have a huge backlog on both the PSP and the DS… and the 3DS is just getting so many good games now like Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.. didn’t even get to Layton and Senran Kagura yet *.*… actually I’ve been busy streaming “Wonder Years” on Netflix over the last several weeks lol..

  • sandra10

It’s hard not being a little worried about the Vita’s state in every region especially since all I hear day after day is doom and gloom. But those same people also said the 3DS was going to be a sure fire hit right at the start among other things that were just wrong (like how Catherine was going to flop in the West) so the Vita’s probably going to be a smashing success… hopefully. :/

    • Herok

are you being sarcastic? all i hear online is people praising vita despite its faults and saying terrible things about 3ds in general. i am going to be happy with my 3ds and future Vita living side by side personally

  • Vino (Tim N)

After the 3DS price cut, I don’t want to buy the Vita early, in case it could happen again.
I’m looking forward to the reception on the Vita. I never was a fan of the PSP, always preferred the DS. But since I don’t console game that much because of time, I would want to play games like Uncharted on the go. There’s something for everyone in that launch list.

  • Solomon_Kano

Despite fully intending to wait for the Vita’s Japanese launch, I just got really excited by the idea that it’ll at least be available to somebody this week. Dunno why, but I did lol.

Now I’m greatly looking forward to the week’s end so we can see what launch title sells best. And how well XIII-2 does, of course. Inazuma Eleven too. Ok, so I guess there’s a lot I’m looking forward to seeing lol.

This just might be the most exciting week of games I can’t play to ever happen lol.

  • aoihana

I’ve been thinking about it, and I think I’m going to hold off on getting the Vita for a while. Not that I’m waiting on games, I mean, look at the list, it’s great, but I think the 3DS will suffice, for now, anyway! (^v^)

Games I’ll be getting for the Vita when I do get one are:

Touch My Katamari, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Dream Club Zero Portable, and Gravity Daze.

I can’t recall any PSP games other than Nanoha, but I’m sure there are more on my list!

I’ll see if I can get my hands on XIII-2!

As for the 3DS, games that interest me from this list are Kawaii Koinu and Moe Moe Daisensou.

The Vita list is pretty awesome, I absolutely love how diverse it is. Fighting, racing, RPG, dating sim, music, action adventure, etc. I’m also very interested to see the charts these next few weeks! (◕‿◕✿)

A very well rounded list of games for Vita. I am curious to see how it does. No doubt it will be an awesome handheld just like the PSP, DS, and 3DS~ :)
