The Ultimate Persona 4 Fighting Game Combo Exhibition

Designed by Guilty Gear makers Arc System Works, Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena lets players juggle an opponent with Agidyne. Atlus shared demos of what the glasses wearing heroes from Persona 4 can do.

 

Each character has two videos. One shows the character in standard mode and the other is after an awakening. As explained on Siliconera earlier, an awakening is a status that is automatically triggered after you lose a certain amount of life. After a cut-in of your character’s face, the awakening expands the SP meter to 150 (you usually have 100) and unlocks your ultimate attack.

 

Yu can launch an opponent in mid-air and strike with Ziodyne.

 

Awakened Yu can finish his opponent off with a cross slash.

 

Yukiko can catch the other player in a fiery tornado.

 

With her SP maxed out, Awakened Yukiko can chain fire spells.

 

Chie can chain kicks with God Hand.

 

Agneyastra, Chie’s ultimate attack, can be triggered in mid-air.

 

Like Chie, Kanji is a physical character, but he uses a folding chair instead of his fists.

 

Kanji jumps right into his ultimate technique.

 

Yosuke is an impressive mid-air fighter. You can control him after he casts Garudyne too.

 

Yousuke’s ultimate move is different from the other characters. He can cast Sukukaja (seen at the beginning of the combo), which gives him a speed burst.

    Looks nice. I like how distinct everyone’s fighting style seems to be. When the roster is fairly small like this there really needs to be lots of difference between the fighters.
    Definitely looking forward to seeing how Mitsuru and Naoto play.

    Wow the damage NEEDS to be toned down. I know Yu’s used a burst but holy crap. And Yukiko’s second video was also pretty ridiculous. I hope you can’t combo INTO that.

      I’ve heard that is because the “evolution” of the initial Personae from p3 happen in the middle of the history, making that success something required to happen in a normal gameplay. 
        And in p4 this evolution only happens when you reach a certain level of a social link with some teammate, is not something that got much to do with the true history after all, is all because of your “social-linking” with someone.

      I dont quite remember where i read that, but Teddie and Yu DO evolve their personae in the true history so …

    Looking very good (especially my soon to be mains to Yukiko and Chie), though I wish there were some Aigis combos to see. Oh well! I can’t wait to see some Naoto, Aigis, and Mitsuru videos soon! x3

      Lucky for you Persona 1 and 2(.0 IS) is available on PSP.

      But most only know about Persona 3 and 4.

      And Persona 2(.5 EP) is… well, simply put, it is rarer to find and only on PS1.

        Can’t really blame them. 3 and 4 are the best games in the Persona series. 

        Seriously, Persona 2 Innocent Sin is archaically sluggish compared to today’s offerings, and from what I’ve heard the followup isn’t even worth mentioning.

          Except the stories in Persona 2 and its second part are far better than the generic stories found in Persona 3 and 4.

          “Archaically sluggish” is just a nice way of saying kids these days have zero patience and are so ADD-addled they can’t sit still for more than a few seconds without needing the game to scream S-LINK RANK UP at them to show them “progress.”

          I’d take P2 over any of the other games any day.

            I agree with you but p2 only has the story going for it.  Its a game that doesn’t age well combatwise even for a game that came out at that time.  The game came out after 2000 so there’s not excuse for the battle system to be like it is when other games before it had better.

            I’d take p2 over the others for the story alone but by the content you have in the game compared to p3 or p4 its not much.

            And persona 3/4 don’t have better content that most RPG but the most interesting parts comes with the story (surprise, surprise) which Persona 2 being one of the best. While the battles were annoying in P1/2 (too many) there were things that P3/4 could keep like fusion spell and the main character not being the only one who can switch personas. Other flaws like generic maps is something that Persona series always keep and P4 was a little more innovative but at the other hand maps in Persona 2 were more realistic (different districts, different shops, dungeon being military bases, other schools, clubs, etc)

            I agree with the part that combat-wise doesn’t age well but at that time it was very fun for me compared with others games, the problem is that Atlus could have made a remake instead of a port for psp because nowadays kids aren’t very patient.

    ASW did really well with the sprites here. Kanji’s upper body is friggin built. Had P4 shown more body type definition in the art, I had a feeling Kanji would not be skinny (though I figured Yosuke would) and it shows here on his sprite.

    Hmmm… yeah this game has got my interest now. I was having doubts about me buying this game, but since it reminds me of Blazblue and Guilty Gear, I’ll consider buying this game.

    By the way, isn’t Persona a RPG series? Sorry for my very low knowledge I’ve never played any of the games, but if you guys know if the games are good would you let me know?

      Persona is an RPG series. Most people love it after Persona 3, so I’d recommend you tried Persona 3 (FES and/or Portable, if possible) and Persona 4. Persona 4 is one of the best RPGs on the PS2 IMO, so go get that game (or Persona 4: The Golden, the Vita version) ASAP, sir. ;)
