Is Square Enix Developing A Game About The Underworld?

By Spencer . December 19, 2011 . 5:56pm

We ask this question because the publisher filed two trademarks in Japan with "underworld" in them. The first, roughly translated, is Door of the Underworld and the Path of Nayuta and the other is Root of the Underworld.

Is Square Enix Developing A Game About The Underworld? Is Square Enix Developing A Game About The Underworld?

Interesting. Square Enix already made a game where Hell is the setting, remember Army Corps of Hell? I wonder what these could be for, perhaps these are tied to the unnamed game with the medieval looking fellow in it?

I’m guessing that’s what these logos were for, maybe? Actually, that angel wing one was in the Gyrozetter trailer, I think, so the other one’s probably from that game too.

Either way, I’m glad to see Squenix dropping so many new IPs. Hopefully one of them will end up as engaging as TWEWY looked (never got to play it, but I liked the music!) or as long-standing as FF.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, it -does- sound like that Unreal Engine game. That Nayuta title sounds… exotic to me, for some reason, and they -did- travel the world in the process of making it. http://andriasang.com/comz4k/

Remember when I said the logos were about cars?! (*^ワ^*)

I’m pretty ecstatic over Square Enix right about now. When I read that they had new IP’s in store,I was really happy, but now that I’m seeing it, it really sunk in, you know? (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

I’m excited for Gyrozetter, the arcade trailer looked amazing. I hope the 3DS game is awesome, too! \(@ ̄∇ ̄@)/

I wonder what these Underworld games are about? Somehow I thought about Vampire Wolves, but that’s probably because I just watched Underworld (◕‿◕✿)

      • Solomon_Kano

        :O You predicted it!?

Yea, seeing this talk of new IPs producing something so soon… it’s great.

Also, I fully endorse Vampire Werewolf Fantasy to become their next title.

        • aoihana

          Yep, I sure did! ( ̄ー ̄)

          Vampire Werewolf Fantasy

          You’re a genius! (*^ワ^*)

I hope it’s not too scary, though! (◕‿◕✿)

          • Solomon_Kano

            You’re amazing!

Surely it won’t be too scary. It’d dampen the chances of a future crossover with Kingdom Hearts! Won’t you imagine with me?

  • Go2hell66

A sequel for Army corps of hell already!?
    j/k

whatever it is, i’m sure it will be awesome, can’t get enough of that underworld :D

  • skymap

    This screams “outsourced.”

    no more SRPG’s plz

  • PrinceHeir

“Door of the Underworld and the Path of Nayuta and the other is Root of the Underworld.”

don’t tell me their developing two same titles but different style of the protagonist ala Nier???

  • JustThisOne

I hope it’s not a tradition view of the underworld. None of that hellfire and brimstone stuff. Maybe it’s frozen over, or it’s some wacky carnival of doom. :D

  • ShadowWolf

    ok, that sounds rather interesting.

you have my attention Square Enix.

  • amagidyne

Anyone else think Fallen London would be the perfect setting here?

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

I wish they’d give up already on these “Underworld”, “Hell” themes. It sounds tacky imo, like they’re trying to hard.

Anyway, let’s see what comes out of this.

  • The Icon

Hope it’s for that recent image of the guy with the white owl and black hat on. Had a cool vibe to it. It reminded me slightly of an old Genesis game called Chakan: The Forever Man.

  • SirRichard

Good to see Square Enix (seemingly?) trying out new IPs, at any rate.

Here’s hoping it’s something good, that image with the white owl and fancily-dressed man was promising.
