Chrono Trigger Finds Another Home On Android

By Spencer . December 21, 2011 . 11:10pm

Chrono Trigger Finds Another Home On AndroidRobo meet Android. He’s kind of looks like you, but he’s all software. Anyway, you two are going to be buds because Chrono Trigger, starting today, is available for Android.

The Android version, just like the iOS version released last week, is based on the Nintendo DS port. You can see a new ending that ties into Chrono Cross and be a personal assistant for surviving Reptites living in the Lost Sanctum.

    Ehhhh… what’s the reasoning for this really…?

    • Kirbysuperstar2

      Money hat! MONEY HAT!

      • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Isn’t that what the DS version was for?!

        • OneOkami

So is this one.  There are probably a lot of people who play games on iOS and Android devices and don’t have a DS or have not played the DS version.

          • Ryos

Yeah, there are a lot of “gamers” on phones/tablets who aren’t traditional gamers and consequently don’t have this.  I’m hoping that SE just starts porting some of their other iOS games to Android at some point… >_>

  • Blazeddc

Of course only Japan will end up getting the Android version….

If CAVE can release Espgaluda II and DoDonPachi Resurrection on Android in the U.S., Square Enix can do it for Chrono Trigger.

      • countupyoursins

They’re just not out yet, I assume? I only turned up a Chinese version of DoDonPachi Resurrection in the Android store. Now, I don’t know if I couldn’t download it because of my phone or the region.

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Yeah, they’re not out yet. But they confirmed that U.S. releases are coming.

          • countupyoursins

            Thanks!

Seeing as I could play this on my PSP, DS, or PS3, I can’t imagine why I would buy this for my android tablet.  Oh well.

“You can see a new ending that ties into Chrono Cross”

    What?

WTF did Trigger ever directly tie in to Cross? They were different continuities in different universes as far as I was ever concerned.

    • D H

They’ve been tied at least since the PS1 release, what with the baby Lucca finds at the end of the FMV and all…  It’s pretty much a commonly accepted opinion that Cross is set two decades after Trigger in the same continuity by this point (and as far back as I can remember)

      • Nicholas Jabbour

2 decades? I recall it being much MUCH longer… but I could be wrong.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

While there were hints about Trigger’s connection to Cross in the PS1 version, the DS/iOS/Android release has an extra ending that makes the connection between the two games clear.

      • godmars

No wait now I remember: I just hated the idea that the two games were connected so thinly and unnecessarily DX

Though I also remember finding the Lucca Easter Egg.

Can’t they just remake Chrono Cross for the 3DS after Chrono Trigger on the DS?

    • http://twitter.com/OVAN66 OVAN66

It’s about time already! I think this game is the one that truly deserves a remake (not like some games a little .. uhh .. overrated)

      • http://www.facebook.com/Chrome.Cell Bernard Yanga

IMHO I think I want  to stay the game as it is.
Cuz it bring you the Classic felling when your an 6 yr old kid back from the 90′s playing it under the christmas tree after you unwrap your SNES oh lord a gud ol memories. And Merry Christmas EVERYBODY FROM SILICONERA!! (>_<)

        • http://twitter.com/OVAN66 OVAN66

Oh, my bad, i used the wrong word, im still not that used to english, its called a Port right? you know, with some extras added ..

Oh, Merry Xmas to you too

    • Nicholas Jabbour

Eh. I started Chrono Cross with high hopes, only to find it was less like Chrono Trigger and more like a typical Final Fantasy game. That combined with the unreliability of FPSE on my phone, I quit early. But If I got a fully stable version on the 3DS (i’m buying a 3DS soon with my christmas money), i’d be willing to give it a fair chance. At the very least, the story looked really good.

  • TheMysticalNinja

Hmmmm…Now I have Robo’s theme in my head

whoa, square enix took the expression “Milking the cow” to a whole new level, huh.

  • http://twitter.com/FireEmblemGuy Tom J.

So does anyone know what the minimum requirements to run this game are? I’ve got a slightly older 600MHZ 480*320 device, which obviously can run a SNES emulator fine, but I’d hate to miss out on this whenever it gets its US release just because of some arbitrary resolution requirements.
