Latest One Piece: Pirate Musou Video Shows What Sanji And Zolo Can Do

Most of the One Piece: Pirate Musou trailers show Luffy pummeling hordes of enemies. This new trailer from V-Jump shows Sanji, Zolo, and Usopp in action. It appears One Piece: Pirate Musou has some quick time platforming events and the boss battles look more involved than a typical Warriors game.

One Piece: Pirate Musou comes out for PlayStation 3 on March 1, 2012.

Gotta say this looks amazing! It looks as though their trying a lot to make the player feel more like One Piece. I’m happy to see one piece again…I’m a little tired of the Naruto games. I need a break from em.

  • http://twitter.com/IXRoxasXI Rei Fal’Cie Sanchez

Combo system looks hella more exiting than Bleach Soul Ignition and it’s Zoro*

    • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Like I was telling good ol’ Tsuda, Viz, who is basically the official translator of WSJ titles, OP included, has gone with Zolo for the last 60 volumes. Thus, it could be argued that Zolo is the official romanized name.

The game looks tight as hell regardless, though. :D

      • jourdal31

Lol, i’ve been collecting US jump since the first issue and it was zoro, 4kids must have been afraid of using a name so close to zorro, so his named was changed to zolo. The first few issues of us jump named him Zoro as well, then jump didn’t want to clash with the manga so for some reason they stupidly adopted the zolo name. Funimation calls him zoro and im sure oda has romanized his name as zoro at least once.

        • Testsubject909

He’s romanized Zoro’s name many times. It’s pretty much officially Zoro.

I will say though, the french translation of everyone’s name is far weirder.. .For example, I think Ussop’s name in french is Pipo….

      • Testsubject909

        Official romanized name?

But… in the Japanese opening it’s Zoro. In Oda’s drawings and in interviews he’s spelled it out to be Zoro with an R.

And he’s also made sure people know it’s Ussop without a u at the end (so even if you hear Ussopu, it’s written Ussop)

Who’d you trust? Oda, the creator of One Piece, or Viz who’re translating it by ear?

Saw this a while ago. I’m actually impressed.First thing that impressed / suprised me, was the fact that it starts from the very begining of the story.Graphics are astonishing. I saw a little bit of solo gameplay of luffy battling marines,so from that I noticed that the battle system is hangs more on he DW series(not that its a bad thing). But the part that it hangs on is just the fact that unless you level up. You’ll be doing the same combos over again for a while.

I don’t jump the gun most of the time. But I really thought they were going to ruin One Piece’s appearance.Like I said before on earlier updates about this. They needed to try something new to intice you in the story.Story-wise with boss battles already. It looks very close to the events that occured in OP. Not to mention that the boss battles(just from seeing Arlong’s)look exciting. They actually look(if not somewhat at least) different than your regular “beat em’ up” boss battle.

I’m not too impressed with Monkey D..But another concern of mine was the feel of characters. Just the look of Hokuto Musou(which was a decent game out of Koei’s DW system), did not seem fluid enough to represent Hokuto no Ken. You could see that they were trying to get there though. But after seeing Zolo gameplay I got to say. This game looks like your actually playing a character in OP.

I said “looks”(last sentence above) cause I’m not truly gonna give any game credit till I play it.But I don’t know. It’s either One Piece fits perfectly with these devolopers, or they really are trying something new. Or maybe Namco’s collaboration is helping them in some way(although I thought it was just for the titles license).

Maybe not a drastic change form their regular attempt at using the DW system to cover every spin-off. But I will commend them. It’s looking great.

    • Testsubject909

I like your style. And I’ll agree to all your points to date, from what I understand though the battle system varies off from the typical Warriors system since you can return to the regular attacks after a charge attack (so a square-triangle-square combo can be done for example). That itself opens up quite a few possibilities and adds some well needed complexities in the combat system without veering too far off the known path.

It looks good, it seems like it’ll feel good, but in the end I’d need to play it myself.

I will say though, after Dynasty Warriors 7, I know they can do a good job making a fluid transition of story to combat to story, and this will help immensely with the feel of One Piece.

I’m also hoping they announce something along the lines of offline/online co-op as well… But more importantly, that we’ll be getting it. Worse comes to worse, I import it… And then there’s that tempting gold PS3, if it wasn’t for the fact that it costs me about a month’s paycheck and that I already have a PS3….

Wow the story is really2 from beginning…. O_o
Hope Bamco NA have some One piece blood in them not just naruto ^^”

  • heartless141

did i just teared out again when luffy said “Nami, you’re my comrade”? ._.

    • Testsubject909

Just wait till we see a boat on fire…

      *sniff*

  • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

As a musou game, it looks pretty darn good. Can’t say the same about the graphical direction though. It looks a bit too rubbery and their skin a bit too shiny?

    • Testsubject909

Interesting to say that it looks too rubbery when Luffy’s involved.

  • AigisHD

Any chance at all they’re bringing this over? I mean seriously please. PLEASE.

    • Testsubject909

Been asking for it since the first announcement. I had cautious optimism and I’m glad to see it delivers nicely from what I can see.

  • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

This is probably the one that stands out the most compared to other One Piece games I’ve seen so far.

  • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

I hope this comes to the west.  I recently got Dynasty Warriors 5 cheap and got addicted to it.

    • Testsubject909

      Welcome.

Dynasty Warriors 5 is where I started myself and I went backwards, going through Dynasty Warriors 2 to 4 Empires/Xtreme and moving forward.

5 is probably the one that will feel the largest of all with the most character development as everyone gets their own Musou/Story mode, so you really get the time to get the feel for each character. The main system is pretty much the same all throughout but they all have their own little quirks that’s certain to provide you with your own personal favorite.

I’d suggest, if you want to try other ones, to go for Samurai Warriors 2 and above, Warriors Orochi 2 (or 3 if it comes out here) if you want other experiences in the Warriors series that feels very different from one another.

      • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

Actually I forgot to mention I got Samurai Warriors 2 Empires recently but haven’t played much of it.  Seems like aside from Oda you only get generic officers at the start?  They all share the same 2-3 character portraits. >_>;  Probably going to come back to that one.

I prefer one with a focus on battles and character stories and less about the empire/managing stuff. Thinking of Samurai Warriors 3 on Wii if that suits my request.

        • Draparde

yeah, avoid the “Empires” version games then, all of those have you building your own empire more or less.

(though empires are my personal favorites i could see how some might not enjoy it as much)

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

    Awesome
I hope there will be a lot of character

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Shoudlnt it be Zoro, fans would go mad if the game had Zolo instead of Zoro. Anway looks and sounds cool, western release please. Second best game of 2012 needs to come to me in the US!

    • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Viz, who are the official translators, went with Zolo. I don’t think fans are going to go mad if it’s Zolo. Besides, you have to remember that in Japanese, Zoro and Zolo sound pretty much the exact same.

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

But funimation and toei use Zoro.

      • http://twitter.com/ExKage Margaret Chan

So Funimation isn’t official? Funimation and Toei use Zoro.

        • Testsubject909

I take it I used a bad word when replying to Tsuna, the word that defines a japanese fanatic.

Oda also uses the name Zoro, he also uses the name Ussop.

So anyone who tries to convince you it’s Zolo or Ussopu (Yes, I know Opening 15 used Ussopu. The animators corrected that in later episodes), is pretty much ignorant.

Sorry if it ends up being a double post. My reply to Tsuna is under moderator consideration at this moment.

      • Keegan Fernandes

Zoro’s name is based of the swordsman from the stories, it can’t be changed. Its a reference, and personally I trust Funnimation over Viz any day.

        • MisterDandylion

ACTUALLY: acording to Oda, Zoro’s name is based of the french pirate Ololais ( MY FRENCH SUCKS).

But your point is right, plus, Zolo sounds a little pretentious and too Bleach-esque (difference?)

  • RaikageV

They wear different clothes than they actually did in the anime/manga.

But the game looks good ^_^

    • Testsubject909

They tend to change clothes quite often in the anime/manga and when there’s a movie, they never wear the same clothes. They have a certain style though that they keep well maintained.

I for one have no trouble seeing them with new clothes, and yes, it looks damn good.

      • RaikageV

I know that they wear other clothes in the games and movies, but the scenes in the game are of the past and they they wearing they “normal” stuff at the time.

  • Testsubject909

“Oh no! One Piece is going to be ruined by the Dynasty series! They’ll never be able to get it right!”

Yeah? Well shut it! DAY 1!

  • MrSargent

    Interesting video.

Another thing is not like that Zolo is poorly written and is written as following way Zoro

  • Haohmaru HL

Zolo? lol, how could they translate a name, even though it was actually written in the show to be seen. US version will also have lollipops and toy hammers intead of ciggarets and guns?

    • Testsubject909

      Thank goodness no.

We no longer have to deal with that bull from 4Kids.

And don’t you ever bring it up again! I’ll rip that buster off your arm and shoot you with it if you do.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Not bad. Expectations are now pretty high for me. A full story mode is a must and it seems they will pull it off if the rest of the story scenes are like that. Only complaint, like with many with other DW games, is the repetitive enemy fodder, appearances and all. A different color scheme would be much appreciated.

  • Learii

how far the stary will go  anyway i haven’t watch one piece for awhile

    • Draparde

if it’s showing stuff from this early it should cover quite abit. considering the scar luffy’s got on his chest it should kinda current. (unless they skip stuff)

      • http://twitter.com/VietKnight Alexander Le

And also showed him in chibi mode after using third gear

  • Enma_Kozato

I hope it has multiplayer since I have a friend who is a One Piece fanatic but lacks a PS3. She’s been crying over this for quite a bit.

  • Draparde

I wonder if there’s going to have a “free mode” where you can play as baddies and everyone else.

it also makes me wonder how many people will be playable (if they do put a free mode)

  • http://twitter.com/GetsugaZoro Pedro Tavares

Its Zoro and there is also some Usopp action.

  • poisui

One Piece videogames are usually terribly made, but this one looks amazing. I am very impressed.

  • http://www.facebook.com/snelkin Sarah Louise Nelkin

IT’S FRICKIN ZORO, PEOPLE!!! I’m sorry, but 4kids made that stupid localizing mistake. I don’t think anyone calls him Zolo these days. SO EXCITED! Buying when it gets closer to the release date!

    • Enma_Kozato

      I- I call him Zolo.
      /shrinks

  • http://twitter.com/Defil_R Peete

Actually I really liked the Wii games (OP:UC1 & 2) and this one seems even better, hope to see it in Europe or at least in US for import. ;)

  • ロークロライ

Yay, Bleach on PS3 was already solid, but this looks rad. Great to be a PS3 gamer.
