Yes, there really is Prinny brand booze, but it’s not from the Netherworld. It’s bottled in California. NIS America sent bottles of "Blanc de Prinny" sparkling wine to members of the press. There’s a little jingle on the bottle Disgaea fans should get.

I think the green Prinny is already tipsy… and I haven’t even opened the bottle.

          The NIS America editor position involves an exam of sorts.  Basically, they give you a section of an about-to-be-released game’s script and they want you to reformat the sentences to fit a certain space that is X characters per line and Y lines long (depends on the script you have and the conditions involved).

          Then they’ll interview you based on your performance on the scripts and generally try to get a feel for why you edited things the way you did.  The scripts I got were from “Sakura Wars: So Long My Love” and “Yuusha no Kuseni Namaiki da”.

          That was back in 2009 when one of their editors got on the JET program (teach English in Japan).  They’ve got some interesting stuff at their office, too.  :D

          If they like you, then they’ll run you through a second interview, which is fairly normal.

          Last year’s licensing of ToraDora was definitely a pleasant surprise.  I had expected Funimation to be the 800 pound gorilla that grabbed the license but it was pretty awesome that NIS America got it.  Working (aka Wagnaria) as well.

            I never thought an off-hand comment like what I made would actually lead to a hint toward what I could expect! So thanks for the heads up. I’m still finishing up my Japanese studies, but with a great sense of writing (and a degree in it) and a good feel for various approaches to translation (since the literal approach is far from always being the best), and of course a love of games and anime, I was born to do at least a bit of localization work.

            I’m not really betting everything I have on working for NISA specifically (just localizing games at all would be enough to make me happy and feel like I’m making a difference), but I love the ways that they interact with their fans and customers, and think it would be great to be a part of that.
