Now people who were on the ropes can try it out for themselves. If you don’t like it after you try the demo, then fair enough.

For people like me who know they’ll like it, it should be enough to keep me pacified until it actually releases in February (Jan 31st may as well be February.).

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

You changed your image just as soon as I had finally figured out what it was. Was that series good?

I hope both demos come this month.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Eureka Seven is AWESOME! Favorite Anime by far, with Tamers as a close, close Second. The picture I had, though, was of Eureka seven Ao, the sequel that just got announced.

        • http://zerodestinypro.blogspot.com/ Zero_Destiny

Now it’s back to the Digimon Queen I see. :) Eureka Seven is AWESOME, still don’t know what to think of the fact that it’s going to get a sequel but you better believe I’m hyped. :D

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

            I love Rika :D

I was almost in tears when my friend told me about the sequel. I’ve been repping E7 for the past 4 or 5 years, so getting a sequel just felt so good, like I’d been rewarded or something. It was an amazing feeling.

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Guess I need to find a way to check out Eureka Seven before the sequel, the big version of your old image made it look so compelling once I came across it on a site.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

They have the entire series on crunchyroll in both English and Japanese (I prefer English, but they’re both well-done), so I’d highly recommend checking it out.

        • Joanna

There’s a sequel coming? Thanks for the heads up. I thought I wouldn’t really like Eureka 7, but boy did the anime prove me wrong. :)

    • Aoshi00

Loving every single minute of 13-2 so far (couldn’t say the same for 13).. can’t wait to play it in Eng either after I finish the Jpn ver, the game is just fun w/ so much stuffs to do.. I think about it during the day, the music (I like this soundtrack better), the battles, where the story would go, minigames, everything, it’s just great :) even just stopping and savoring the environment and exploring them (as good the graphics looked in 13, the background felt like wallpapers to me)..w/ this game, I appreciate the 13 universe much more :)

  • Solomon_Kano

Aaaand the only 2 I’m interested in were in the title lol.

I’m pleasantly surprised to see that XIII-2 has a demo. I’m planning on getting it anyway, but at least I’ll get a chance to play it first.

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Shouldnt this be tagged for US? I thought the blogcast is a SCEA podcast?

Anyway, I think its awkward to have a demo for FFXIII-2, an rpg, then again, the rpg for Eternal Sonata sold me on that, and that became my favorite RPG on the X360. Asura’s Wrath is necessary. Hopefully it inspires people to get the game amidst the 50 other games releasing around when Asura’s Wrath comes out.

  • http://twitter.com/Oathkeeper_Sora OathkeeperSoraXIII

sweet! I finished the Japanese version of XIII-2, so playing the demo in english will be a nice change. I was not disappointed with XIII-2 at all there was so much to do in the game that I never found myself bored. a 3rd party member would have been nice but then having a kickass behemoth by your side is also pretty darn amazing. the ending was heavily critisized by a lot of people who didn’t understand it but I thought it was great and emotional. I’ll also be trying out asura’s wrath, i’ve seen bits about it over the internet so trying it out should be fun :)

    • Aoshi00

There is indeed a heck of a lot to do in 13-2, complete opposite of 13, been looking forward to playing it every night after work after day, I just started last week :)  I just got to Academia in AF 4XX and have fun taking the quizzes :)  I love the char, story, pacing, exploration, gameplay, everything.. 13 I just felt bored and it was like a chore..   so far I’m loving every minute of it.. I haven’t seen the ending yet, but this game really has a Chrono Trigger vibe, the time traveling is done better than I expected, and this is after CT and Steins;Gate.  I’m having this electric shooting mech from the Academy Tower as my 3rd, it’s doing major damage :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Glad to see some consistent positivity towards 13-2, as everywhere I go it gets bashed left and right.

        • Aoshi00

I know, it’s kinda unbelievable really.. before the game is out, you have people just reading what others said or just watch videos here and there and keep bashing it w/o playing it and not even understanding Jpn.. it’s like they want it to be bad.  If they are not interested in playing 13-2, why bother getting 2nd hand information and be so negative about it w/ no basis.  I tell you this game is fun and has tons to do, tons of NPCs everywhere you go w/ a lot of information.  This was what I was hoping an HD FF to be.  Usually I don’t look forward to playing an RPG a 2nd time after I beat it so quickly (I haven’t yet), but as soon as I finish the Jpn ver I can’t wait to give it a 2nd go in Eng.  Game’s just “fun” for me. For 13, the graphics was good, but they didn’t wow me because I wasn’t absorbed in the game itself.. but 13-2 just feels so immersive, w/ very good presentation.. when you first get to the Bresha Lake Ruins in heavy rain.. the rain, the shadow, just wow..

The 4-disc soundtrack coming w/ the LE is definitely worth it :) I would try not to be tempted and skip the demo and just wait for the full game.. for Asura’s Wrath as well, like Bayonetta or Nier, I know I’m getting it.. don’t need any convincing lol..

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

I’ve been hoping for a demo because I’ve felt empty knowing that the game comes out so long from now (not too long now, but a couple weeks ago, I was going through withdrawal something fierce).

          • Aoshi00

Yeah, I had been looking forward to 13-2 for quite a while too, glad it turns out to be everything I hoped for and more.. before that I was just playing lots of Mario 3D Land :)

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Max-Lestage/100001999473380 Max Lestage

Makes you wonder what happened to good old days when gamers played or rented a game first before judging it.

          • Aoshi00

Exactly.. unfortunately trolls don’t even have the intention of playing the game, they think that it’s going to be bad and they want it to be bad..  they’re not interested yet they read and watch so much about it (I would never spoil myself on any game like that), and just talk bad about it w/o even playing it.. I mean, if someone has played the game and actually understand Jpn and they still don’t like it fine that’s fair.  And comparing 13 and 13-2 being equally linear?  You have to be joking. 13-2 feels like total freedom after 13. even the camera swings 360.. in 13, you can’t look at the sky, it’s a tube.. I do like the Cocoon/Gran Pulse universe though, just that personally I think 13-2 does a better job to absorb player into the game.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

With games costing $59.99 and places to rent games becoming rare to find or just plain not existent in many regions, Im quite sure there is no way for most people to try a game before putting some judgment on it.

So with buying a game being a huge investment just to see if one will or will not like a game, renting it being out of the question for people, and people in this comment line seeming to state that people need to ignore the negative comments about the game…what would you propose one does to put judgment on a game?

          • badmoogle

I accidentally pressed the like button instead of reply.:p
Well many of those who criticize the game have already played the game and some have even platinumed it (some GAF members that i know.)Yet their opinions of the game are very objective and not very positive about it.

Also in the “old” days we didn’t have the information we have today, and there was no youtube to see the gameplay of a game that you were interested.
Many people have decades of gaming experience behind them so i think a gameplay video in many cases is more than enough for them to know whether they like something or not.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Max-Lestage/100001999473380 Max Lestage

@Tsunayoshi Sawada there’s Gamefly if you want to rent and try out games without spending 60$, and they practically advertise everyday. There’s no excuse for judging a game before at least having it in your hands.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

@facebook-100001999473380:disqus gamefly is pricey and often inconvenient for getting new releases, at that point in time people are better off just reading and watching reviews than pay to wait to rent a game.

          • badmoogle

I really trust your opinions Aoshi even though other people’s opinions who’ve also played the game (and i also trust) are much different than yours…
I think i’ll buy this game (when its price goes down a bit) even if XIII hugely disappointed me and really can’t stand seeing (and hearing) XIII’s cast again.

Anyway i’m looking forward to try the demo.:)

          • Aoshi00

Thanks for valuing my opinions :), you should definitely give the demo a try. I always try to take both sides into consideration but finally the decision is up to myself. I think S-E did a lot of right w/ this sequel this time around.. it’s actually quite cool to see Snow, Lightning, and Hope’s appearances so far, you would hear about the other chars too, you feel the passage of time and how people try to rebuild things, how they feel about the events, and how history might repeat itself..

I know some are sour about this being Serah and Noel and not their favorite Lightning and whatnot.. but if you accept that premise and don’t mind a fun RPG w/ a time traveling theme and lots of things to do, towns to visit, NPCs to talk to (there’s like millions of them), among many things, it’s quite addictive :)  People said this was lazy using some elements from the previous game, I feel the opposite, I felt the first game was lazy, and 13-2 w/ more heart poured into it.. the music and presentation is great.. the camera is so dynamic (meaningful dynamic, not Advent Children dizzying), I’m immersed in this world, which I couldn’t feel from the first game, just by reading some summaries.

If you’re in no hurry to play it, game prices should drop soon, personally I didn’t think FF13 was worth importing for $90, 13-2 is worth every single yen this time :)

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Well, Toys R Us is selling it for $45 bucks, so check that out if you only sorta like it after the demo.

          • Merrick Egber

I personally find it interesting how I have read, on here, people commenting on one ending out of multiple endings, as being a detractor for the game. I mean, who would want to know, already, one of the endings for a game that they’ve never played? If they happen to try it, and like it, than they’ve already spoiled themselves with it.

          • Aoshi00

I was a bit puzzled too, why would someone want to read or watch everything including the ending of a game and spoil everything, unless they have absolutely no intention of playing it, or just want to brag about knowing something before everyone else.. oh well..

    • Gatchaman1

      *edit*

      • http://twitter.com/Oathkeeper_Sora OathkeeperSoraXIII

wow, way to spoil what it says at the end, I deliberately didn’t go into the ending because people should play the game first and experience it for themselves so that THEY understand it. by you just saying the ending says ‘TBC’ it automatically will turn some people off…

for anyone that doesn’t want to play the game there is a let’s play on my youtube channel OathkeeperSoraXIII, so if you are interested in the game but are on the fence about it come check it out. thanks (sorry for advertising my YT feel free to remove this if you want)

      • Göran Isacson

… Okay honestly, THANK YOU FOR THIS SPOILER. If I hadn’t known this information and gone in blind, I would have raged until the Internet itself shook asunder. Knowing that you’re about to be slapped over the face with a “To Be Continued” allows me to steel my soul for the inevitable cold shower. You’ve done a good deed, Gatchaman1. A good deed indeed.

  • LegendKamina

Hrnnghhh sweet jesus yes. I did not expect this.

Hopefully it comes out next week!

    • Gatchaman1

It (FF XIII-2) is coming next week (confirmed on PS3 blog)

      • LegendKamina

Ah…glorious. Thanks for the info, man.

Wow a demo for FF XIII-2, really ? I bet they changed their mind after the japanese release :p

  • kupomogli

Releasing an FF13-2 demo?  I guess Square Enix doesn’t want sales. If anyone has any sense the graphics won’t save the garbage gameplay.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. With a game whose international release was met with lukewarm and varying opinions online and offline, the demo could have a disadvantageous effect on sales of the retail product.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

it hasn’t been released internationally, though…

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Hasnt it, it released in JPN and released available to importers and exporters worldwide. THere is mixed reception of the title in both JPN player reviews as well as english and alternate language reviews, it certainly didnt open up to brilliantly positive or negative remarks.

          • Aoshi00

Well, the US Eng. release is still about a month away, and when it hits the US, you don’t even think they’re released to the people of Hawaii and Alaska anyway..  A lot of games have mixed reviews, and this time S-E is being more up front about it, since a lot of people who didn’t like 13 felt deceived.  Now the demo could help let people try and see 13-2 is not as linear as 13, and the world is not empty but instead filled w/ people you could interact w/ like in an old FF.

Game rental is not that hard, might not be in a local blockbuster, but there’s online Gamefly, just like how people rent movies w/ Netflix.  My friend doesn’t let negative reviews sway him and would still try the games himself to see if they’re fun before dismissing them.  Unless you don’t even like the game and don’t think of buying it, then no amount of positive reviews would change your mind.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Be allowed to import something isn’t the same as being released internationally. Take Senran Kagura for example. Any one can import it, but it hasn’t actually been released internationally.

      • KyoyaHibari

*Sigh* You do realize “lukewarm” and “varying” don’t complement each other right? Lukewarm means acknowledging/expressing with hardly any enthusiasm and varying means diverging opinions across a group, so you are basically saying they everyone didn’t like it, and at the same time others had both negative and positive opinions, you could have just said it had mixed/poor reception. You could have also shortened the last part to: “this demo could hurt the sales of the full game.” Broadening your sentences to this extent is unnecessary and comes off as a bit desperate, it appears as though you try to get your simple message across with lots of exaggerated adjectives (albeit hypocritically of me to say considering how much I type, but you get the picture). Hehe, this grammar Nazi shall bite you to death :3. I am your contrast Tsuna, I’m here to oppose you :3.

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Is that how all of my sentences come across? Lots of exaggerated adjectives, overly complex yet simple, and with conflicting statements?

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

            Yes.

          • Nemesis_Dawn

Like you don’t do it on purpose.

    • Aoshi00

I was only OK w/ 13, and kinda gave S-E the benefit of the doubt w/ 13-2 and boy was I pleasantly surprised, totally exceeded my expectation.  Maybe you should try the free demo too, the game actually feels very different from 13 and had none of its bad points.  I wonder which area they would let people demo though, probably Bresha Ruins where the Giant Atlas is..  people complained no demo about 13, 13 being too linear, now they’re doing everything the exact opposite, make the game open (but not 12 MMO open) and more fun things to do, what do you want S-E to do?  You don’t like it when the company listens to fans’ complaints and improves?  Again, try the demo, if you don’t like it after you try and play it, that’s fine.  The feeling is nothing like the first game, it’s not monotonous w/ fight -> walk forward in narrow path -> cutscene. I felt like S-E had actually read my past comments regarding 13 and directly addressed the issues.. Game actually has so much to do it feels like the old FFs, or be best compared to Chrono Trigger, down to the smallest touches..

I have to say my very initial reaction when I first heard about 13-2, I was like why make a sequel, but I think S-E made the right decision and starting to go into the right direction. If they’re remaking X or 7, I welcome it.

    • Bakuryukun

I thought 13′s gameplay was alright (so long as your turned auto-battle off), setting up efficient paradigms for each different area you visited was pretty nifty. I think 13 gets more flak than it deserves, it’s not terrible, it’s just not fantastic.

    • badmoogle

For me it would have been much worse to leave the game in the hands of their horrible PR which tries to make the game look as if it is something different than it really is.Have you seen XIII-2′s video presentation on Qore?so many lies.

At least with releasing a demo they are being honest and upfront to their fans so i respect that.
IMO every publisher should invest time and money in releasing a demo that is well thought out and trully reflects the heart of their game.People are getting increasingly tired by the usual exaggerations of the PR marketing and trust them less and less every time.

      • Aoshi00

Veronica Belmont Gone = Fail *.*…

        • Nemesis_Dawn

The new host of Qore is not just a tool, he’s the whole damn shed.

          • Aoshi00

The new Qore guy is actually not bad, but Veronica was just a beautiful and fun gal to watch.. it’s just different w/o her.. it’s like the Jpn Live w/o Yamaguchi Hikari, it’s just not the same anymore :(…

          • Nemesis_Dawn

I have a deep hatred of that guy. His little “listen to how cool I am” quips. His mall haircut. Hate him. Won’t watch it anymore until he’s gone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Carmona/100000347329518 Christopher Carmona

My reaction….literally. I know what some of you may ask, and I’m gonna say yes to all of them. I literally reacted like this. Except, I clung onto my dresser.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkM5r5SEk_E

  • ThunderGod_Cid

The lack of a “real” 3rd party member comes off as being lazy/rushed IMO and Lightning(the only character I liked in XIII, besides Fang) being relegated to a “minor side-character” role, pretty much killed all my hype for this game.

This better be an awesome demo.

  • badmoogle

SE releasing a Demo for one of their most high profile non-portable games?
What happened in order for us common peasants to deserve such luxurious treatment from the high and mighty SE?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

They’ve released demos of their games before (FF8 and Legend of Dragoon had in-store demos, as well as on-disc demos, FF12 and FF13 also had demos, albeit the 13 one being japan exclusive). Tomb Raider also had a demo.

      • badmoogle

I’m speaking about this current generation. The FF8 era of Square Enix feels as if it was an entirely different company back then than it is now.
And saying that FFXIII had a demo is really far reaching since it was only available to the Japanese CE of Advent Children complete.

And TR although now belongs to SE is still being managed by Eidos (now SE London). And to which TR you’re referring? If you are referring to TR Underworld it wasn’t published by SE.If you are referring to GOL,this was just a small PSN,XBLA game and not a high profile game.

Where are the demos of FFXIII (for PSN/XBLA),Nier,Star Ocean 4,Front Mission Evolved,The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscobery?
I don’t know but to me it looks like in this generation SE expected the games to sell just by the power of their company name on the box cover or the brand power of franchises like FF.And call me crazy but something tells me that if XIII-2 had a much better start in Japan we would have never had a chance to play the demo.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Well, if you’re going to use the excuse that TR is an Eidos game, then I feel I should point out that Nier, Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery, and Front Mission are all developed by other people as well.

And Again, I bring up FF12, which counts as this gen. The 13 demo counts as well, since, like in the FF8 era, you had to buy another disc (The only place I remember playing a demo of ff8/Legend of dragoon were at walmart and on one of those compilation cds that had various demos on them).

So, counting FF12 and 13, only 1/2 of the main title games have NOT had demos. Adding in 13-2, 2/3 now have demos. I don’t know how you can see them releasing a demo as them expecting the brand name to sell the game alone, as releasing a demo does the exact Opposite. If the demo is bad, people will be even less likely to buy the game than if there was no demo at all. Who cares about the “poor” reception in Japan? That has nothing to do with the quality of the game, as many of the greatest games have poor sales (Ie Psychonauts).

Honestly, you just sound like you’re bitter for the sake of being bitter.

          • badmoogle

“Well, if you’re going to use the excuse that TR is an Eidos game, then I
feel I should point out that Nier, Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery,
and Front Mission are all developed by other people as well.”

Tomb Raider was always an Eidos IP,i thought it was pretty obvious i was referring to SE Japan. And yes I know that most of the games i mentioned were developed by others than SE,but they were all IP’s that belonged and published by SE Japan.
And as i said before TR Guardian of Light is a small downloadable game.I was referring to major high profile releases.

“And Again, I bring up FF12, which counts as this gen. The 13 demo counts
as well, since, like in the FF8 era, you had to buy another disc (The

            them).”

No FF12 doesn’t belong in this generation as it is obviously a PS2 game. Therefore your argument is a moot one since this discussion is about the current generation.
And how does the demo of XIII counts?I had to pay a serious amount of money to import it and not even all Japanese gamers had the chance to get it since it was bundled with the collectors edition of AC complete.
Not to mention that millions of fans in the west never had a chance to experience it.

And i’m not “being bitter for the sake of being bitter.”If you don’t care about playing a demo before deciding to pay hard earned money for an expensive game then more power to you.But there are many people out there that actually like playing a demo before deciding if they want to give 60€ to a game or not.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

I say that 13 counts because, just like in the FF8 era, you had to buy a special disc (Back then it was a compilation cd, this time it was a movie). Not everyone went to walmart or bought the Demo Cds either, yet those count. You can’t have it both ways.

I’ve never said that demos were bad; I love demos and am incredibly happy that this game is getting one. But even though the game is getting a demo, which you claim to want, you’re still complaining about how SE doesn’t give demos and that their giving this one a demo because it sucks. So do you want the demo or not?

          • badmoogle

When did i say that the game sucks???All i said/implied was that if XIII-2 had been a huge success in Japan then SE would’ve been overconfident (again) and we would have never received a demo…

Ok i think i’ll stop here since it’s obvious that we can’t really communicate…

          • Nemesis_Dawn

How does a PS2 game count as this generation?

I interpreted him as talking about SE vs SS, not the console differences.

I think it’s great they’re being up front about it this time like you said.  Actually Nier did have a demo on Jpn Live marketplace, I don’t think it’s on PSN or for the US though.. I forgot if the Nier demo was up before or after the game’s release, but it was around that time.  I d/l the demo just to check out the Jpn subtitles, the font seemed even smaller than the Eng. subtitle (that’s why it was a bit hard to play Replicant)

I know you want to wait for lower price, but if you want to take the plunge in case you like the demo, Amazon is throwing in another $10 credit (for regular ed only, not LE as usual) on top of the Omega DLC (which is probably worth $3-5), so I say it’s a pretty good deal..

My PS3 I got for Christmas is ready and so am I :D

As someone who liked FF XIII, but is on the fence about XIII-2, I’ve come to realize that the thing making me iffy about the game is Noel. I don’t like his design or what I know of his character (which is, admittedly, very little). I loved the characters in FFXIII (okay, not Hope) and was really hoping I’d get to be Lightning again, as I consider her one of the top protagonists in the entire franchise. Noel just seems like an attempt to make another Tidus. I’ll definitely download the demo and I’m expecting I’ll probably pick the game up when it comes out, but…I dunno. I just don’t like Noel.

this is exactly how i feel omg

      • Playlife_2

And I feel like you both, I liked playing with Lighting and company and so far all I see in FFXIII-2 is Noel and Serah for entire the game even though Serah is cute and all, Noel is very generic to me.

yeah, at best, Noel reminds me of a kingdom hearts reject =(

    • Aoshi00

Noel turns out to be quite a good char actually.. and Hope is the bomb in 13-2, I mean he’s very cool (Kaji Yuuki’s mature voice wow) and he has a lot to do w/ the game’s story post Cocoon fall, he definitely pulled a Raiden.  There’s really not much I dislike about 13-2 so far as it offers so much in terms of gameplay (I mean everything not just the tweaked battle system), much more than 13.

If you don’t need the hard cover episode i artbook/novella from Best Buy, Amazon’s giving $10 credit plus the Omega DLC, only for regular edition though, I’m getting the LE w/ the soundtrack, saves me money importing it originally. I like the music a lot.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

Well, I was thinking Best Buy purposely because of the novella.

I am exactly the same, however I didn’t beat FFXIII.  Monster joining your party, that is a huge turn off.  But the biggest, is Noel.  Honestly, doesn’t he look more like a “sora” type character that belongs in Kingdom Hearts?  That’s the huge turn off for me.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

I hadn’t thought of that before, but yeah, he does have a Sora feel too.

    • KyoyaHibari

Lol I like Noel, Hope and Tidus, as well as Sazh, other than that I hated every other main character in FFXIII XD. Snow’s old teammates were pretty cool though. (Granted, I only played a few hours and got bored XD).

Ah, an Asuras Wrath demo. Why oh why did Capcom have to go and throw it’s support behind SOPA, I would have wanted to buy at least THAT game this year :(

SOPA’s not likely to pass, so just play the damn game. Besides, Capcom merely owns the IP and Publishing rights, its’ all Cyber Connect 2 developed.

I hope Square will bring a demo of XIII-2 over to EU PSN very soon.
