Mecho Wars Is Like Advance Wars In Fantasy Land

By Spencer . January 9, 2012 . 4:04pm

Mecho Wars feels a lot like Advance Wars, but with fantasy creatures to control instead of tanks. There is one twist when it comes to tactics, this game has a day/night cycle. At night, the water that divides the desert territory freezes, which allows units, friends and foes, to cross into other territory.

Mecho Wars from Oyaji Games is coming to PlayStation Network tomorrow as a downloadable game. Originally released for iOS, Creat Studios has a Minis port that’s compatible with PlayStation 3 and PSP priced at $4.99. The iOS version is available now for 99 cents.

Go ahead, take my money already!

I hope that this will convince Intelligent Systems to make a new Advance Wars in the future. I’ll get this game ASAP BTW.

    • Joanna

They probably will but right now they are working on Fire Emblem. One thing at a time. :)

  • KotaroInugami

The unit design is… I dunno… no charm? Just not feeling it. :/

Yeah…….then again, it’s like a Minis so….(unless I’m mistaken. They did say a Minis port, but that might be separate so I might be wrong)

Looks pretty goo’ to me. Reminds me a lot of Advance Wars, as the title suggests.
Now I wonder if the music is as good~

I didn’t think there would be something like this…

No offense, but this looks more like a fanmade game. Oh well. Still looks nice, and it’s a very nice gift to us Advance Wars fans IMO.

  • WilliamJasper

This looks okay. I’ll still get it.

    I was expecting mechs

    • WilliamJasper

      ……They are mechs.

      • Exkaiser

        No, they’re mechos!

        • pockystix

they’re like nachos, but made of metal

  • pockystix

    ehhhhhhhhh

    looks really. . . mediocre?

I dunno, wasn’t the Advanced Wars series sort of Fire Emblem, just in a modern warfare setting? And do we really need another company taking the combat style wholesale?

Either way, maybe it’s just an homage, as we’ve not gotten a new Advanced War game in a while o 3o

I also remember the freezing effect in Yggdra Union. . . being in like, one map. . . though I’ve cleansed my mind of that lol

    • Exkaiser

Famicom Wars predates Fire Emblem by a couple of years…

They’ve got notably different approaches, too. Fire Emblem has RPG mechanics and persistent campaigns, while Advance Wars is all about independent skirmishes.

They appear similar mechanically, but beneath the skin they’re quite different games!

That said, speaking of appearances, the attack animations in this game are pretty much just [poor] carbon-copies of Advance Wars’ animations…

      • pockystix

        thanks for the info o u o

didn’t actually know about how far back the series went. As for the mechanics, even on a first glance you could tell that there’s a lot different, but I’m sure it goes deeper than that.

And yeah, the game looks like it’s app price tag 99 cents at best

Advance Wars is nothing like Fire Emblem.  It’s like… Ogre Battle.

Kidding.  Not at all like Ogre Battle.  This is a sort of reproduction of a map on Ogre Battle with changes I made to make each side equal.  The location to the south is not a secret location on Ogre Battle but I added it to coincide with the secret area across the bridge on the west(the bridge that is incorrectly placed but fixed in a later revision.)

Each single city in Ogre Battle has been replaced by multiple cities because it’d be boring with just one location each to gain money and build from.  The blue team has a very slight advantage.

      • kupomogli

For those not acquainted with Ogre Battle.  Here is the location the Advance Wars stage is based on.

I don’t know why people compare fire emblem with advance wars. Only beacause the chess-like way of advancing?
It seems that who makes this comparision dont play one of the games very far.

  • PrinceHeir

lol i thought the title was “Macho Wars” XD

btw what happened to the Advance Wars series :

    I thought it was mecha wars… >_<

Ah, it looks like a poorman's version of Advanced Wars. I like the music, but everything else looks rather…plain.

  • theworldofnoboundries

…………… Even though i really love Advance Wars series and it is a same that the game has been quite long since the newest title announced. I just can’t feel hyped about this one as….. it is just too plain.

  • WyattEpp

Fantasy Advance Wars…. So like Langrisser?
