Gunslinger Stratos: 60" Screens, Double Guns, And Online Play

Gunslinger Stratos is like a mix of 2Spicy, a versus style light gun game from Sega, and the massive Mobile Suit Gundam arcade machines. ByKing, the developer of Gunslinger Stratos, helped Namco Bandai develop Extreme Vs. too.

Each cabinet has a 60 inch screen and two gun controllers. You can fire them separately as if you were playing House of the Dead solo or "combine" the guns. Side style transform your character’s weapon from two guns to a shotgun or machine gun. Tandem style has players stack one gun on top of the other to make a laser cannon or rocket launcher. Square Enix says there will be hundreds of guns including a flamethrower, barrier shield used to protect allies, and a recovery gun. Players can buy weapons using a point system (and points are an additional purchase) and save data to a NESiCA card.

Gunslinger Stratos is played with four players, but the game can actually support eight. You can play in a free for all mode online with gunslingers across Japan. Or team up with your friends in the same arcade and take on the nation. There are also single player missions and co-op missions. Stages will be based on real world locations like Shibuya shown in these screenshots.

Gunslinger Stratos is slated for release this summer in Japan and the newly opened official site has a teaser video.

I really want to see this come to consoles, sounds good.

  • Ladius

Mind blowing. Would love to play a console port, since enjoying the arcade release in my country is out of question (I imagine only an extremely limited number of western arcade venues could afford this kind of setup).

  • Draparde

Wow, this game looks wonderful. i would get it ina heart beat if it came out on consoles o_o

  • PoweredByHentai

I wish video game arcade centers were still popular here in the US.

My short time in Hong Kong was pretty awesome thanks to how easy it was to access the arcades.

    • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Man i miss arcades, the only one nearby is a long drive away and it’s not very good.

      • PoweredByHentai

The only arcade in my area of the San Gabriel Valley is a Dave & Buster.  The alternative is a drive halfway to Pomona or something.

and Urobochi Gen is writing the story

  • JustThisOne

THIS SOUNDS FANTASTIC. I used to hit the arcades pretty often, so I’m quite fond of this idea.

Also, for a second there, I thought this was a Gunslinger Girl game, haha. The thought of playing as Rico and Henrietta… :’) Henrietta was the one that introduced me to the P90. If this game allows it, I’ll equip it just for her.

    • SolidusSnake

Thumbs up. Gunslinger Girl is a fine anime and the P90 is a fine firearm.

      • JustThisOne

No kiddin’. Even the way it reloads is sexier than other guns.

But on the topic of guns, are they even going to have real guns, or just guns based off of real guns? Or are they all originally designed?

        • SolidusSnake

Haha yeah, the only downside is that reloads take a little longer and the magazines are a pain to deal with since they’re so long.

It sounds like they’re going for more fantastic weapons what with the lazers, barrier guns, and recovery guns, but the article says that there are hundreds of weapons, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a few real guns or at least clones show up. Especially since the girls in Madoka Magica were so fond of their berettas, flintlocks, at-4s, and so on.

If you all think these screenshots look good I found the trailer for Gunslinger Stratos it looks a whole lot better in motion! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6dDDHy1bEQ)

    • KotaroInugami

Or you could watch the better quality one in the article. I think it’s the same thing.

  • Göran Isacson

    … This is possibly one of the most beautiful and doomed things I have ever seen. It’s just so… ARCADE-Y. And I’m never going to get to play it ;_;

  • http://www.facebook.com/santd Daniel Sant

this is definitely an upgrade over the late gunloco

  • KingRuff

So.. it may not be the Dissidia arcade game I was definitely being sarcastic about <.<.. but this game still looks awesome!

  • SolNeko

not what i was expecting but looks great!, if it follows the route the gundam vs series takes maybe we can see it ported on ps3 :)

  • TheMysticalNinja

2Spicy was wicked awesome. This sounds better. I really hope this gets ported to consoles and gets a localization.

  • AzureNova

O my, this game looks awesome. I need this to be released on consoles as well as localized. The action, characters, and environments look very very nice. Hopefully we will hear more news about this soon.

  • Kitestwinblades

Its like Virtual on meets Devils Third with Glorious Graphics!
Clever idea with combining the guns for a new one.

I’ll be waiting for a port to a motion gaming console or at the very least the chance to run into this badboy at least ONCE in my life.

    graphics look orgasmic
