Mega Man 25th Anniversary Logo Hidden In iPhone Game

By Spencer . January 10, 2012 . 2:03pm

The Blue Bomber turns 25 this year and Capcom appears to have plans to celebrate his birthday. Bubbleman from Universal Gamer found Mega Man 25th Anniversary logos hidden inside the recent "remake" of Mega Man X for iPhone.

Back in October, Capcom Senior Vice President Christian Svensson said they will have "things" to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Street Fighter and Mega Man after the company’s next fiscal year. In other words, after April 1st, 2012.

I went to Mega Man’s 20th birthday party at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, which had a bunch of art on display for fans to see. Here are some photos I took from the event.

I agree, I almost get mad when I see a Capcom story now! Capcom dashed (pun intended) my hopes of getting the Rockman game Ive been waiting for since forever

  • Wondering_Zero

I would give anything for a new Megaman Zero game…Yes, I know what happened at the end of the 4th one and ZX pretty much confirmed what happened. But if a new Zero game comes out I’ll buy like 5 copies of it.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Though I liked your comment a while ago I forgot what I wanted to say, but now I remember. It would be cool to have a game about the Elf Wars. Kind of similar how it would be interesting to see the Ancient Kharlan War (Tales of Symphonia) events to be made into a game.

  • nyobzoo

I heard rumors megaman and pacman are going to be in SFxT, that would be pretty awesome if true

    Something’s missing here…
    Wave Battle Ride On!!!
Wait, never mind I don’t see Legends in the photos here either, probably just didn’t take any photos of them…
I would like one Battle Network/Star Force-esque game and/or a platformer… actually anything Mega Man related is good for me. Maybe another one like Command Mission, which I really loved. Oh Mark Gatha, I will miss you…
Though a Legends 3 would be beyond awesome!

I took photos of Servbots and stuff too, but I didn’t post them because last time Mega Man Legends fans complained that mentioning Legends was rubbing salt in their wounds.

Though Im a HUGE Legends fan (my fave MM series).  Dont pay mind to those that whine about stuff like that.  They need to face reality.  It’s cancelled.  I hope it resumes one day, however unlikely that may be, but until then there are other games to keep us busy. Dont let complainers keep you from doing the things that you want to do.

Hey Capcom, you know what goes with the 25th mega man anniversary? A new megaman game… that is not cancelled.

  • Herok

maybe a megaman game with a 3 in it wont hurt *cough* legends or ZX *cough

oh man whenever a Megaman article appears it just saddens me on how capcom do not cares about the series.

all in all happy 25th Birthday Blue Bomber :P

so CAPCOM, are you goin to celebrate this anniversary with anouncing that you will let development of MML3 continue and PSN and XBL version of every MM game till now and announcement of Megaman Legend as an DLC full character?
    ….
    …..
no? oh well, as long as you don’t let any western developer get neer the franchise I’m ok… hope I don’t give any funny idea to CAPCOM with that last part…

In particular (for me anyway), the two near the bottom. The opening shots to ZX and Zero 1. I would do. . . well, an awful lot to get those. D:

  • Solomon_Kano

    :DDDDDDD

Do Mega Man X9, please. In 2D. Or a new Mega Man game. Hell, ANY Mega Man game. Preferably on console. I mean, I’d even take straight digital re-releases of old games (really, X-X3 or the PS1 Mega Man games — including LEGENDS).

    /impossible requests

Hopefully they do give us at least one game, though. That’d be nice, y’know?

    • Exkaiser

Mm, IIRC there was a rights issue with rereleasing Legends.

I believe it was that Capcom USA doesn’t own the rights to the voice-acting, and, well, PSone Classics don’t exactly make enough money to warrant a purchase of rights.

Forgot where I read it, though. I think it was an official post on Unity, but of course I might just be remembering wrong.

(I don’t think the same issue applies to the X games, though, since they’re on the X Collection)

Megaman 1-5 are on the Wii’s Virtual Console, as is Megaman X (Japan also has X2, which I believe is due for a Western release). There’s also the first gameboy Megaman on the 3DS’ VC.

Also, you can pick up the Megaman Anniversary Collection and the X Collection for the Gamecube/PS2.

Maybe not exactly what you were hoping for, but there are some rereleases out there! (Also, Anniversary Collection has the arcade games. Score!)

      • Solomon_Kano

Ah. I knew there was something, just couldn’t remember what. It’s a pity, really, because Legends was awesome and I never even got to finish it.

I know there are re-releases out there, but I figure they might as well do another for this gen since it’s another big anniversary.

Unfortunately, I can’t get the PS2 ones since I no longer have mine. Same goes for the Wii (‘cept I never had one of those, though I plan on getting one). Guess I’ll get them off the VC when I get one. Thanks.

  • EDGEucator

I’ll just run down the list of games people want(ed) that fans will probably create over time on the PC , that Capcom won’t be on gaming consoles:
    ★Mega-Man Zero Z:Z Saga (All 4 sagas/stories rolled into 1 long  saga/story title , with “Up to Date” graphics) (PS3 , XBOX360 , WiiU & Vita)
    ★Mega-Man Ages/Generations (PS3 , XBOX360 , WiiU & 3DS)
    ★Mega-Man X9 (PS3 , XBOX360 , WiiU & Vita)
★A new Mega-Man Battle Network series starring a different protagonist , who still sports the Mega-Man Lan used for the 6 original games. (3DS/WiiU)
    ★Mega-Man ZX3 (3DS)
    ★Mega-Man Maverick Hunter X2 (Vita)
    ★Mega-Man Power Fighters 3 (3DS/WiiU)
    ★Mega-Man Legends 3 (3DS/WiiU)
    ★Mega-Man StarForce 4 (with a revamped battle system) (3DS)
★Mega-Man MMO “Free to Play after Purchase” (PS3 & PC)
Now for the games Capcom will make:
    ⓧMega-Man 11 & 12 (8-Bit still…) (PS3 , XBOX360 & WiiU)
ⓧA new Mega-Man series that Capcom will shove down our throats because they created it & not Keiji Inafune. (3DS)
    ⓧMega-Man Universe (i-phone)
    ⓧMega-Man X2 & X3 (i-phone)
    ⓧMega-Man FPS titles of new & existing Mega-Man series’ (PS3 , XBOX360 , WiiU & PC)

    • HeatPhoenix

No no, you got it all wrong, here’s the list:

      What fans want:
      - Mega Man Games

      What Capcom wants:
      - No Mega Man Games

      • Exkaiser

        What Capcom wants:
        -Money

        What Mega Man makes:
        -No Money

Maybe one day in the future the blue bomber will turn a profit again, but that day is not 2012.

        • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

ZX Advent definitely lends itself to your statement, and I think Maverick Hunter X as well. (Since it didn’t do “well enough” to warrant MH:X2) What about Mega Man 10 though? People freaking loved 9. (Hence us seeing a Megaman 10, i suppose) Did 10 not do so well on sales either?

          • Exkaiser

10 didn’t do as well as 9 IIRC, but that’s fairly typical for such a direct sequel, and I’m pretty certain it still performed above expectations.

I think Capcom is just hesitant to pump out a Megaman 11 in the same style, though. They’ve already got a bad rep as Sequelcom, and a third pseudo-retro game might kill interest rather than generate it. Honestly, it’s kind of a tricky position for the Classic series, since while the latest games did well, the other side-scrolling Megaman games have been on a sales decline since X5. If 9 and 10 only sold because of nostalgia, which seems likely, then a more modern-style of game might not sell as well (in addition to being more expensive to produce). However, the “safe bet” of another retro game might not be so safe because it could be too stale for people (which is one of the reasons that led to declining sales of Megaman in the first place).

I think a MM7-style game would be the best thing to do for the Classic series, but of course MM7 isn’t nearly as fondly-remembered as the NES games…

There’s also Star Force, which had fairly miserable sales for its last entry, and Powered Up didn’t do so well, either.

I really wish the franchise’s situation was as simple as the fanboys made it out to be. I’m sure Capcom would be pretty happy with that, too, since it would mean they’d be pulling in the cash from it.

They’re in this position where pretty much all of the spinoffs are dead, interest-wise (barring Legends, but again the interest in that was apparently too niche for Capcom to feel it was a safe bet. Touchy subject anyways), but the Classic series is in a tricky position too, and X still has negative stigma left over from the last few games. They could do a new spinoff, but of course the ZX and Star Force series didn’t quite do that well, did they?

Ah, well, looks like I went on quite a bit of a ramble, huh.

        • EDGEucator

It’s not about the money , it’s about the entertainment & value. Which Mega-Man does/has that Street Fighter doesn’t. Something’s wrong with this picture. It’s been wrong for almost 10 years now. Did it ever occur to you that Capcom doesn’t market Mega-Man the same way they do Resident Evil or Street Fighter , because they don’t , yet by God & Gamers graces the franchise “still” sells well enough to warrant sequels , which sell exceptionally well for titles with hardly no freaking marketing back-up. I bet my left n** that if Street Fighter didn’t have these tournaments & marketing it would bomb. Especially after how Capcoms been pumping them out & leaving Gamers saying “F**k this franchise.”

          • Exkaiser

            “Which Mega-Man does/has that Street Fighter doesn’t.”

This is entirely your own opinion. There are plenty of people who think there’s much more value in Street Fighter than in Megaman, and neither they nor the Megaman fans are wrong. Value of a series is subjective.

And, well, the series’ perceived value has nothing to do with its monetary worth, which is what I was talking about. You’re free to rant at me about how you feel Capcom has mishandled the Megaman franchise, but it doesn’t change the sales.

          • EDGEucator

Sales mean nothing. That’s the point. Do you think Call of Duty deserves to sell as much as it does ? Does it’s entertainment & value justify the sales numbers ? No. Fact. Sales mean nothing. It’s a mentality to think sales mean something for a franchise in the gaming industry. Sales does not equate to importance.

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

While I don’t disagree that sales are not indicative of quality, I also don’t think it’s a good idea to scratch them off the picture altogether. If nothing else, good sales numbers do give companies motivation to make/publish more games (usually of the same type, like sequels).

Of course, the definition of a “good” sale most likely varies between each company, depending on how much it cost and how much profit they want to make. If a company – not talking about any real-life company in particular – was too greedy and wrote off a reasonable profit as a failure… it sucks for everybody in the long run.

In any case, let’s not degenerate into slandering other titles and franchises just to praise our favorites.

          • Exkaiser

Sales mean everything to Capcom. Because, you know, they’re a business.

            Which was my original point.

            Way to miss it.

          • EDGEucator

You missed my point. So we are even. End discussion.

          • Corvax

Not gonna lie, you sound like a fanboy, saying Mega-Man has entertainment and value and Street Fighter.  Just because you don’t like SF doesn’t mean other people don’t as well.

          • EDGEucator

It’s a fact. People aren’t always willing to here the truth because it goes against them. That’s understandable.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Leonard-Norwood-Jr/100001685317322 Leonard Norwood Jr.

It would have been better if they made another damn Megaman game, and come out for his 25th anniversery Jeez, just a remake of Megaman X and a couple of artwork from previous MM games never does enough…
