By Spencer . January 16, 2012 . 3:40pm

Future Detective Conan Game Is About The PastNamco Bandai has a new Detective Conan game coming out this year and they’re keeping most of the details a secret. As a teaser, the game’s official site says the truth will tie the past and the future together.

What we know about Detective Conan: Prelude from the Past is it’s a multiplatform mystery adventure game slated for release on PSP and Nintendo DS this spring.

Detective Conan version of a Prof. Layton game?

More like the Miles Edgeworth game with more point & click elements, like item combining or using the gadgets Conan got from Agasa to solve puzzles. :>

Detective Conan is probably the number one series I’d like to get into, having watched all of what Cartoon Networked aired way back when.

Then I realized it was 600 episodes and counting, without an official English release to boot. Bleh.

How I wish my #1 favorite anime/manga video games would be released here in the states. T_T

Has the series had any present in the US? It seems awkward that such a long running series doesnt have a presence here?

The manga has been much more well received than the anime has. They’re still translating the manga but the translation of the anime has kind of halted. Only 5 seasons and 6 movies have been translated. Which, you know, normally that would be AWESOME, but since the show has been running for 15 years and has 15 movies and 20 seasons…. well, it’s very incomplete.

They halted translations in Germany at season 11, but continued translating the movies for DVD release. And they don’t plan to continue the series anytime soon (or at all)… I tried watching the Japanese episodes, but I realised, I had been so used to the German voice overs that I just couldn’t get used to the Japanese seiyuu. (I’ve got that problem with Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball as well. XD)

I should start reading the manga, but so many volumes… watching TV is a little cheaper. :/

Haha, yeah had the same problem. While I don’t have much problem between the german and the english voices, the japanese (especially of Son Goku) voices don’t work for me either. :)

            Or with Shin Chan.. ^^°

The German dub of Dragon Ball is just awesome. While it’s okay for Goku to have a female voice in the Japanese dub of Dragon Ball, in DBZ it’s just awfully silly. The superb cast of the German dub, like Piccolo being voiced by David Nathan, who’s also the German voice of Johnny Depp (and seriously an awesome voice actor…. and boy, does he have one hell of a sexy voice), makes it hard to get used to the Japanese voices. If not impossible for some.. :>

There was one Wii game released, at least in Europe. But it was pretty much 90% running through the same building again and again, looking for people to talk to but not knowing where anyone is. Every now and then you get to do the fun part in which you have to gather clues and combine them correctly to solve the case. And then you run around again. Or play stupid mini games with really awkward controls in the arcade. :/

I would SO love to have a real good Detective Conan game in English. There’s so many possibilities, but sadly anime to game adaptations are never as good as I imagine them to be. (Avatar – The Last Airbender and Lupin III being two other good examples.)

The anime tanked in North America on TV, and couldn’t support a DVD release.

    • takopako

at least the ds is not region locked.

      • AnimeRemix

        Yeah… but I got a DSi…

        • takopako

the dsi is also not region locked. XD not with ds cartridge games, at least. :D only the downloadable games have a lock on them. C:

            DSi-only or DSi-enhanced games are region-locked.

          • takopako

not necessarily. pokemon black/white are dsi enhanced and my japanese copy work on my american dsLite. o.o

  • takopako

    sounds awesome.

  • M’iau M’iaut

    Past and future together eh?

So are we talking the future where Ran finally kills Conan for how ecchii she let that ‘little boy’ be with her in the past?
