Is La Pucelle: Tactics Coming To PlayStation Network?

By Spencer . January 20, 2012 . 2:17am

Is La Pucelle: Tactics Coming To PlayStation Network?PlayStation Network is slowly building a library of PlayStation 2 games and one NIS America title, GrimGrimoire, is already available. One of Nippon Ichi’s earlier games, La Pucelle: Tactics might be next.

Korea’s Game Rating Board rated La Pucelle with Sony Computer Entertainment Korea as the publisher. We’re pretty sure this won’t be the expanded PSP port, La Pucelle Ragnarok, since that was rated a year earlier, which also has SCEK as the publisher.

Sony Computer Entertainment Asia just started releasing PS2 Classics with God Hand, Maximo, and GrimGrimoire. Perhaps, La Pucelle: Tactics is next?

I rather have Ragnarok, but we all know thats not gonna happen any time soon if at all

    • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

Who knows, if sales of La Pucelle Tactics are extraordinary, NISA might decide it’d be worth a go.

      • cj_iwakura

        Not NISA’s say.Mastiff is blocking it,last I heard.

        • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

Nope, apparently Mastiff no longer owns the rights to the game. That was apparently revealed at some point quite a while ago.

NISA has stated already they don’t have interest in bringing the game over, most likely due to the state of the PSP in America, but maybe the Vita will revitalize interest in PSN versions of their games.

          • PoweredByHentai

A PSN version is much better than nothing.  Heck, for most of NISA and Atlus’s PSP offerings, I’m really grateful that they have digital equivalents on the PSN.

One thing I don’t like about collecting physical media is that once the window to pick up a physical media has passed, it becomes really expensive or very difficult to obtain it.  =/

          • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

I really wouldn’t mind if they did release them on the PSN– I know they stated some potentiality for Makai Kingdom Portable on PSN, but they might be waiting to see what the reaction is to the Vita itself.

If PSN is the best way for any of these games to shine, then so be it.

          • Raharu95

Agreed with you and the person who made the last comment but i can’t respond to

          • PoweredByHentai

            @Linka:
Porting PS3 code to the PS Vita is apparently a relatively painless process.  If PS3 code can be ported to the PS Vita, then there isn’t a technical reason why PSP code couldn’t be ported to the PS Vita.

The only obstacles to that would really be management’s decision to add in additional “functionality” or stuff like that.  Trophy support, for example, could be a pain in the arse to implement into something that originally didn’t have trophies, but even that isn’t impossible per se.

The interesting thing is that Sony temporarily took Criminal Girls off its official compatibility list because it was having audio problems and then reinstated Criminal Girls once the Vita firmware was updated to fix that specific issue.

Would be nice if the vita could play those psn ps2 titles

    • PoweredByHentai

      Firmware update.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the functionality gets added in through a firmware update.

      • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

Maybe they’ll add it in addition to the PS1 games.

        • PoweredByHentai

My guess is that since PSP games on PS Vita get bilinear filtering for that gorgeous visual upgrade, that Sony is trying to get bilinear filtering to work with the PS1 Classics as well.

I know I would redo the PS1 emulation to add that kind of support.

Ooooh, this would be a very nice addition to PSN. :D

  • Go2hell66

Yes please will DL that day 1

  • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

This is awesome, but here’s what I wanna know:

Will this be the normal version that was released in America… or will they go the extra mile, and decide to make the European version available on the PSN, instead?

Since the PAL one came later, it ended up having a very important feature: New Game+! If they can do that, I’d be super happy.

    • Go2hell66

i believe with odinsphere they used the PAL version because it didn’t have lag issues so if La Pucelle comes to PSN i assume they will use the PAL version as well

      • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

I sure hope so. I love La Pucelle, and I beat the entire game myself. I lost my memory card though in the last year, so having a really good excuse to replay the game would be awesome.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000147755574 Marcos Karal

I was almost thinking they abandoned that service. Killzone 1 and now this? Yay

    But I want Soul Nomad

    • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

I agree with this 100%. Give us Soul Nomad. And Makai Kingdom.

  • Draparde

Oooo, now this is a ps2 classic I will buy. it shall be the beginning of many i’m to download onto my ps3 i’m sure.

I’m happy to see NISA games appearing on there though. with the exception of the disgaea’s i’d probably buy most of the ps2 games they could put up there.

  • Natat

Ooooh now THIS is one PS2 classic I would love to buy, it’ll be a nice purchase alongside Odin Sphere.

  • http://twitter.com/VietKnight Alexander Le

Well if you looked at the video of the PSN home of Disgaea area it shows it and some other games so it will be possible.

  • Kitestwinblades

Its been so long that some people probably forgot about her form before the disgaea makeover. I’m up for any strategy game from my past.

    • Raharu95

Actually, her human form was the top second in Disgaea 4 DLC constest. NIS sneakily put Priere as an Overlord, but they later let you had the option to change her voice so that she would sound like normal Priere.

      • Kitestwinblades

Sweet! What a nice touch to add on XD
Yeah i really missed how silly she can be. Seems like it was side scrolling combos and death monopoly over the years lol I’m really glad to hear that people still remember her from her roots and supported her with votes.

  • Selaphiel

I’ll stick with my PS2 copy, I’m still pissed that NISA skipped Ragnarok yet they continue to bring over some of the most asinine otaku games on the market.

  • pothier.adrien

Poitreene (actually it’s “poitrine”) is French for “chest” or “breasts” :)

  • Barrylocke89

Be pissed at the fandom. Those “asinine otaku games” are what seems to make them money. (as for me, I enjoy Disgaea and Zettai Hero Project, but Hyperdemension Neptunia is a little much for me)

EDIT: This was supposed to be in response to Selaphiel btw.

  • pgover

I certainly hope that this game gets released. It’s one of the few NIS games i haven’t played and having it released on PSN would be the best way to get it.

  • Mister_Nep

This was my entry point for Nippon Icchi games. I’d love to get a download release. Such a great game.

  • http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/21421.html?type=4 Kashell

Man, this game brings back memories. I felt this was better than Disgaea.

  • ShadowWolf

wouldn’t it be nice if they released the PSP version?

hmm, i wonder if this gets good sales that they might consider it?

  • Learii

    will this come to u.s?

  • PrinceHeir

    gimme gimme :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000619126996 Emma R Hill

This is a lifesaver…but will PS2 classics come to the EU PSN? *prays so damn much and hopes that it comes to the EU PSN*

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000619126996 Emma R Hill

I meant *prays and hopes it comes to EU PSN*

  • Simon Andersson

Wait a minute! They have Grimgrimoire on PSN! Thats great because i never got to play it on ps2. Does anyone know if they have realesed atlus ps2 games as well like    Lucifers call (Nocturne) or the devil summoner games.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ChrisDrake37 Chris Sánchez

They need to release Disgaea 1 and 2, Xenosaga 1,2 and 3 on the PSN for PS3, then I’ll be happy :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/AshCrimsonTJL Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

If we can get the other Marl’s Kingdom series over here, besides Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, that’d be great.  :)

    • PoweredByHentai

Yeah…  Thing is, Marl Kingdom just isn’t popular here in the US outside of a really dedicated group.  Ryuta (the NIS America translator) gave me a very frank answer about its sales when I asked him about it at AX2009.  =/

      • puchinri

True, but it has the potential to be. I mean, it really hasn’t had much spotlight on it since NISA “took off” here. Rhapsody is pretty old, and I doubt many people even thought to connect La Pucelle and Disgaea initially when the latter first came out.

I think if they tried to put the Marl’s Kingdom stuff out there more, they’d not only be showing love to the fandom it has, but probably expand the fanbase even. (Doesn’t help that La Pucelle couldn’t/wouldn’t get its PSP title localized and Rhapsody has had only one recent port/remake even in Japan since its release.)

        • PoweredByHentai

I think there are multiple problems with how the Marl Kingdom franchise is marketed here in the US.  For one thing, Rhapsody was never really advertised that well.

Another thing, Rhapsody’s original combat system was definitely its own barrier of entry.  I mean, I love the game and its weird mix of musicals and SRPG random encounters but there were definitely a lot of random encounters and SRPG combat generally never moves that quickly.  The DS revision/remake was definitely a step in the right direction by making the game easier for people.

As for La Pucelle PSP localization, Mastiff had the license to publish it.  Even if Mastiff no longer has the rights to publish La Pucelle, they still own the rights to the translations, which puts NIS Japan back to square one with regards to translations.

Rhapsody DS was in the same boat what with Atlus owning both the translation and the English-adapted songs (which were surprisingly good).  Thing is, Atlus and NIS have a pretty interesting/close relationship.  That is why Disgaea PSP and DS can be localized and why NISA can localize a Persona anime.

La Pucelle basically has the same problem as the Macross series: someone else has the license or owns something that makes it a legal hassle to bring something new over.  In Macross’s case, Harmony Gold still has a stranglehold on the original Macross stuff under the Robotech umbrella.  Similarly, Tales of Eternia had to change its name when it got brought over because of He-Man’s rights-holders.

Basically, there’s a lot of copyright bullshit here in the USA.

    • puchinri

      That would be spectacular. ;u;
