Grand Theft Auto III & Vice City Coming To PSN As PS2 Classics

Grand Theft Auto III & Vice City Coming To PSN As PS2 ClassicsSony is adding Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to PlayStation Network as downloadable PS2 Classics in the future. Both games were re-rated by the ESRB as PlayStation 3 games. Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas was not on the list.

 

Tommy Vercetti will be join Sony’s online store along with… SpongeBob. SpongeBob’s Atlantis Squarepants, SpongeBob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab, and The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie were also re-rated for PS3.

    Funny. I just got GTA: San Andreas from XBL (on sale for 800pts. this week) today. 
    III and VC are still my favorites of the modern titles. I still haven’t got into the ones originally released on the PSP.

      The “Stories” games are quite good, definitely worth playing if you like GTA.  And personally, San Andreas blew III and Vice City away for me.

    pity would have loved an HD collection of this with trophies and I would have been all over it but I have a feeling that we may end up playing PS2 games on the Vita just give it a hunch.

    Other than the fact that I don’t see GTA: San Andreas on this, at least I can go back and play the other 2, since I only rented those back in the day.

    Vice City is still my favorite GTA game, I hope this comes to Europe eventually (assuming we’ll get PS2 classics in our PSN anytime soon…)

      Nothing’s stopping you from importing from PSN US though. Well, maybe except for the hassle of looking for appropriate PSN cards.

    Do you think PS2 classics will come to the EU PSN?, because I`ve heard GrimGrimoire is one of the classics and now this is coming to PS2 classics…I`ve really wanted to play these.

    I’m not really a fan of these recent “HD” collections, but there are some games that could benefit from them. ICO/SotC was pair, the GTA games are another. I played SA on my PS3 recently with a PS2 disc and there were some rough spots with the games. Visually it was really dark and yellow which was weird. I played a bit of it on PC and it looked much nicer and brighter.

      Nothing in this article points out for a HD treatment. The games are just getting re-released as download only titles: the same as other ps2 games like God Hand and Odin Sphere.

        I know. I’m just saying I’d like GTA to get an enhanced port for the HD systems.

        He’s saying there should be a GTA HD Collection, not that these are part of one, which I agree with.

        I won’t be picking these up since I already have a working PS2 and these games, but if they were packaged in an HD Collection with hi-res graphics and trophies, I definitely would have.

      i like hd collection but some games need W more than just an emulation. i don’t care if there isn’t aliazing if i have to wave around a freaking square gun!. THE game so many people love is vice city and they didn’t redo it i suppose! just put it there like gta 3 ugly as they come.

    i’m guessing the psn version is going to be more than $5 for gta3, should i get it on psn or the phone/tablet version, if i never played it before?

    Perfect, i love that they put games i already have to sell, after they made no longer possible to play my copy. I can really see it coming to PSP vs. Vita…

        That must have sucked, mine just stopped working, i got a PS3 and i would still like to use my own GTA3 copy without having to re-buy a PS2 -_-

    I sincerely hope III would get a vocal version of O Mio Babbino, while VC gets all its licensed songs intact.

    That’s OK, I already have this on PC.  No need to get this even if it’s a HD remaster with trophies ( I still wouldn’t buy it).

    what is with ALL these sites on the net saying its a PSN release.
    you dont have any idea. all you have is ESRB rating the 2 games.

    and second of all. l bet it IS HD collection. because a BIG sony boss
    said awhile ago if a game is in high enough demand,then it might
    end up getting the HD treatment. and not just that. heres more proof.
    the PS2 “classics” range is for RARE PS2 games. GTA is far from rare.

    And you say it published by sony.so it cant be. SO WHAT. the GodOfWar
    HD collection,was published by sony. so why not this to.Sony would have
    bought the rights and published it so the HD collection would only be
    available on PS3. and that would be why sony is the publisher.

    AND LASTLY.

    the PS2 “classics” is referred to as “only on psn”
    well these games are already available to play on xbox360.
    so putting this on PS2 classics for only on PSN would make no sense.
