Report: Lightning DLC Scenario Coming To Final Fantasy XIII-2

By Spencer . January 24, 2012 . 7:08pm

Report: Lightning DLC Scenario Coming To Final Fantasy XIII 2Early Famitsu leaks brings us news about the upcoming Lightning colosseum battle for Final Fantasy XIII-2 Square Enix teased in December. Just like Omega, players will be able to fight Lightning, dressed in her Final Fantasy XIII outfit. Win and you can add Lightning to your party. Other classic monsters will appear in the colosseum as downloadable content.

An interview also reveals players will be able to get an episode with a new storyline focused on Lightning that reveals the hidden truth behind the game’s endings.

Square Enix is also interested in continuing the Final Fantasy XIII-2 storyline with scenarios for Sazh, Dajh (his son), and Chocolina (the time-traveling merchant). The format for these side-stories has not been decided. Two options mentioned in the interview are more DLC episodes and novels.

Well I don’t care what others say, I want a game that provides a lot of content for the single player and Square is providing such.

I hope Lightning will be an actual party than part of the Paradigm Pack because what Paradigm would she fall under, Ravager or Commando?

I’m really disappointed on the fact there is only one true ending, making all the other endings non-canon when WE, the players, should be allowed to decide which ending WE think is canon. Come on, Square! If a main character gets killed, let them die for real like Aerith! Don’t stretch for a XIII-3 just because Versus XIII isn’t ready yet. You have Hitman: Absolution and Tomb Raider!

Let’s cross our fingers that Sazh gets his own story as DLC because the game was released a month ago so developers can make loads of different stories as DLC.

This is how I feel about SE now:
Let’s say SE is a Burger King restaurant and the special from the house is the Final King Fantasy combo, it used to include the burger obviously, fries and a soda, it was a really really delicious! But then eventually began to lose some customers and so, they examinated the other fast food selling strategies and then they realised that selling extras was the new trendy thing and so they executed the idea.
They threw the Dissidia whooper 012, it had the Burger, the fries and the soda but diferent from the usual FF meal you could buy an extra Ketchup packet, I wanted an extra packet of Mayo but sadly that was only available in EUR, I was quite dissapointed but I still enjoyed the meal. (The DLC costumes xD)
And then they decided to change the main meal, they called it the Final King Fantasy XIII-2 combo, I was pretty excited for this meal, I sat in the chair and the waitress gave me just a burger… What? What happened to my fries and my soda? She said “Oh sorry, you have to pay for them separately”, but I payed the full price I want my fries and soda! “Oh come on, don’t be greedy, the fries and soda are just extras, it shouldn’t alter your meal, we are giving you a full burger”, but damn it! I liked to eat my burger with my fries and save my refreshing soda after i eat my fries and burger! “Weell you can buy them, if you don’t feel like buying it then don’t” GRRR!!! Okay okay! Gimme my goddamn fries and my soda, Sprite please! “Oh sorry, Sprite was available in the grand opening, we only have Coke” … You got to be fucking kidding me. ಠ_ಠ

Just my perpective ladies and gentleman!

This game is looking better and better. Plus the DLC is pretty good. I would love to have the 2 sisters fighting alongside.

I guess it all depends on how you look at it. For me I’m grateful that Square is giving me a Lightning scenario that they couldn’t fit in the game, whether it should have already been included or not, I’m just grateful that they’re going through the trouble of giving it to us. Better late than never.

This doesn’t bother me, as I’d rather be able to pay a few bucks for these segments than have to wait for a Japan-exclusive international version of the game that’s announced immediately after the US release that I won’t be able to play or experience for myself.

I suppose in the eyes of some people that makes me immature, but considering the amount of content already packed into the game, as well as the improvements made onto he game that I already liked, I don’t mind things like this.

  • Setsu Oh

i would buy this lightningt story if it was a stand alone but i don’t think it is…. i don’t buy games to suffer chars i don’t like (sera). why ditch a determined and strong char for a much moreclasic and boring one???

  • SuigetsuHiramura

I would prefer a sequel over DLC… seeing that I’m lacking a PSN account since the whole ”Sony getting hacked” fiasco last year.  Honestly, I don’t like DLC in the first place especially when its required to fully enjoy a game.

    • godmars

You’d prefer a full $60, FFXIII-3, title to explain part of XIII’s back/post story, rather than some $6-$15 DLC which could come in 2-3 installments?

Though thinking about, that is almost the same thing…

If they have the nerve to ask $15 per additional segments.

      • SuigetsuHiramura

It depends on the type of gamer you are, but I prefer hard copies of the games I own.  Little things like the boxart of a game matter to me for collection purposes and whatnot.  Also, you’re right, sixty bucks is a lot of money to buy a game.  If I pay sixty dollars for a game I want all the content that the game has to offer including that which could potentially be witheld to be used as future DLC.

Take Final Fantasy XIII-2 for example.  Based on this Siliconera post, SE is selling segments of the story (which could be potentially crucial to understand it) as DLC.  Which leaves me, a DLC naysayer, high and dry.  It’s fine to sell costumes and whatnot as DLC, but segments of the story?  That’s a big no-no in my book.  Especially when it comes to RPGs.

Yes, I would prefer a XIII-3 over DLC.  That’s just my opinion, feel free to disagree.  But before a XIII-3, SE should focus on Versus XIII, a game that has enormous potential.  I just hope that SE to give us a FULL game (sans DLC) when it come to that one.

  • Happy Gamer

would she be an NPC behaving like a monster? (not active in cut scenes etc)

I don’t mind DLCs. I’m very sure knowing SE, will leave out tons of lore and unquestioned stuff.

SE should learn from Bioware’s dragon age, and that game…really robbed me of my cash with it’s DLC. It was a bit much but the sheer amount and insane quality per DLC I commend.

  • Majin1

This is just sad.. they want people to pay full price for an incomplete game missing the most important piece (the true ending). No thanks SE I’m cancelling my preorder right now. To those of you who defend this scam, think again, think twice before you let that thief clean your wallet.

  • PrinceHeir

damn such a shame for story related DLC.

i am good for Story DLC, but im not okay with DLC being able to see the True Ending of the game.

reminds me of Prince of Persia 2008 for the same reason.

i might wait for awhile before buying this to be honest :

still Lighting on your party is awesome though :P

Calm down people, apparently you are unaware of the existence of the ironically titled “Final Fantasy International”. In Japan Square Enix has been releasing the same game about 6 months – 1 year later with tweaked gameplay and additional content.

The big difference is this was all before DLC even existed – to own an International Edition game, you basically had to buy the entire game a second time (or never buy the original edition)! U.S. gamers have been led to believe that Final Fantasy games never receive add-on content after the game is originally released. This trend has existed for decades, just never marketed to U.S. gamers.

Personally, I welcome the possibility of receiving the director’s cut-esq content included in the International Editions for the first time in the U.S. franchise’s history!

All of the great Final Fantasy games have had International editions; Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 12… games most U.S. gamers would usually consider complete. This is nothing new.

DLC monster are fine, DLC costume well…too is normal, DLC storyline? it depends, I could accept a side-storie like going to the beach and see some fanservice xD or silly not too serious things….BUUUUT is diferent is they add things that are part of the ending. Seems like a lot of people complain about not understanding the ending so they add a dlc for that lol

  • http://twitter.com/followthereader Matt Davidson

It seems to me from bouncing around a few different sites that people’s fury at DLC depends almost entirely on the wording of it.

Games like Mass Effect 2 added paid story DLC and called it ‘a new chapter, and a bridge between ME2/ME3′ or similar – in other cases, like here, they call it ‘the truth behind the original ending’ and everyone goes insane.

Weren’t a lot of people who’ve already played the game complaining that they didn’t like the ending because it didn’t wrap stuff up? Well here you go, they’ve added a bit in for you.

Video game developers are a BUSINESS. A BUSINESS. They are about making money, wherever possible. They don’t care if you cry into your cereal because you didn’t get a special personalised edition of a game you want that comes with only the content you like and a special outfit just to match you. They care about making enough money to make a profit and pay wages.

The world is crazy. Apple repeatedly and brazenly release broken products with obvious design flaws for hundreds of pounds and then two months later announce the same broken product with the same design flaw, a half-inch smaller and with a blue trim, for an extra hundred pounds, and everyone talks about what an amazing and innovative company they are. A game company asks you to pay an extra fiver for additional content they didn’t need to give anyone in the first place and everyone goes mental.

If you don’t want the DLC, don’t buy it. Simple as.

And people not buying the whole game because they don’t want to buy the additional content that’s not even out yet? That’s just incredibly petulant.

So awesome! I’m not like the majority of people. I like DLC, I’m excited for Lightning and even more so for some costume DLC.

  • http://www.facebook.com/justin.hoffa Justin Hoffa

I just have to ask: why? The game came out over a month ago in the states. I’ve finished all the optional bosses, gotten all the fragments. There’s nothing left to do. Now Squeenix is releasing all this extra content, but for me it’s too late. My interest has waned, the game is Over. I wish this stuff had all been on-disc (naturally) or at least released weeks ago. Now it’s just a matter of paying money for vanity pieces.
