One Player Gets To Steer The Story In Dragon Quest X

By Spencer . January 26, 2012 . 12:08am

Even though its a MMORPG, Square Enix stresses Dragon Quest X is a narrative driven game. So, who gets to control how the story progresses when you’re in a party? The story leader makes decisions for the group and like any good leader you can ask your party for input before advancing the plot.

Dragon Quest X takes place in a world that’s probably too big to walk everywhere. If you need to get around why not try the railroad or use a magic stone to warp you back to a set place. Before using the stone players can set a destination.

Dragon Quest X is slated for release this year on Wii and is also in development for Wii U.

Hoping this gets localized – it sounds like an interesting mechanic.

it proabably will seeing as it was announced at E3

It wasn’t announced at E3, but I do think there’s a good chance we’ll see the Wii U version released at the very least.

That’s my guess too, that we’ll only see the Wii U version. I have no complaints with that, especially if they up the networking capabilities to something more current-gen.

The mmorpg things scare me a little , but its DQ10 so have to play it

But its not an MMORPG, its an RPG with multiplayer :|

  • Jirin

I can’t imagine doing a story driven game with an MMO.  I mean, wouldn’t you have to have all players online at the same time whenever you play it?  How does anyone older than high school age even set that up?

man I really wanted to play offline multiplayer with a friend in my living room

This gonna be the first DQ that bomb.

Seems like Square-Enix never saw Star Wars The Old Republic in action. It’s really cool how they integrate the entire party within a conversation with NPC’s.

  • pockystix

    that’s. . . weird, to be perfectly honest. . .

Since it’s already said being released this year, I don’t think they’re going to be making any beneficial changes, ala DQIX. . .

    a MMO with Storyline?

    ……..so SWTOR?
