Bones, the animation studio behind Fullmetal Alchemist and Eureka Seven, is making anime cutscenes for Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. The news comes from the tenth anniversary Phoenix Wright event where Level-5 CEO Akihiko Hino took the stage and showed a scene of Phoenix Wright traveling to London.

While Phoenix and Maya are flying to London, the Nintendo 3DS game takes place in a medieval world where where magic "exists." A young girl named Mahoney is accused of being a witch when flames burst from the ground. In a hands-on demo of Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, I played as Capcom’s famous lawyer and pressed several witness at once using the game’s witch trial system. Read our impressions of Level-5’s game here.

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney is slated for release this year in Japan.

Thanks for sending us the evidence to this case, robban! Case closed!

¬†“culturally ignorant” …”overlocalization”.. You obviously don’t understand the localization process properly, and WHY they actually do it? Don’t you see that they gave this series a much broader appeal by changing the names and a few references. I can imagine a LOT of people I know being scared away from the games if they’d had fully japanese names, locations and jokes, etc…

¬†Just to add- it would be awesome if companies kept in ALL the japanese names, references, and jokes.. But English-speaking people would need a HUGE set of translators notes to understand every intricate detail. And 80% of regular gamers/people wouldn’t enjoy the game that way, lol.

  • yay, Bones is one of my fav studio
