Mushihimesama HD Coming To Xbox 360 With Extra Content

By Spencer . January 30, 2012 . 5:35pm

Mushihimesama HD Coming To Xbox 360 With Extra ContentCave producer Makoto Asada confirmed Mushihimesama HD (known as Bug Princess on iTunes) is their next arcade port. Asada says on the Cave blog the announcement will be featured in Famitsu Xbox 360.

Mushihimesama HD will have enhanced graphics and additional content not in the PlayStation 2 port which Asada reminds us was not developed by Cave. A release date for Mushihimesama HD was not announced.

Cave also outlined plans for future downloadable releases. Deathsmiles, Mushihimesama Futari Version 1.5, and a third title will be available via Microsoft’s Games on Demand service. While the news is for Japan, Deathsmiles 2X was also released as a digital download. Microsoft distributed the game internationally as the first digital import for Xbox 360. In an interview with Siliconera, Asada said Deathsmiles 2X was an experiment that turned out "pretty good" and Cave is considering to release other retail shooters this way.

I haven’t heard about this one. Chances for localization for this one isn’t likely.
    I don’t know…

Imo its quite the opporsite now Rising star games now publish in both PAL and NA. It really just depends if its regoin locked or not. Since regoin free shmups have almost zero chance of getting an retail localisation

ofc akia katana needs to sell well first

I tried the demo on the App Store and I liked it, but the iPhone makes for a crappy controller, so I always refuse to buy them. However, I’ll def pick up the Xbox version though.

Not reported here is the possibly bigger news that Asada also said Mushihimesama HD is likely the last shooter port on this generation of consoles.

That means it doesn’t look like the much wanted Ibara Kuro 360 release will happen.  And Dodonpachi Saidaioujou (hitting arcades this Spring) is probably not getting a port for a while.

He saids that it’s “likely”. So maybe it depends on when MS and Sony want to launch their next consoles. If they stall for time, Cave might be forced to release yet another game on the current-gen consoles.

I can’t help but wonder if Wii U is a legit possibility for Cave’s next console platform.  Cave had an awesome run with 360, but lately you get the sense they feel a bit burned in the past year or two with 360 completely floundering in Japan (even among the hardcore Japanese fans who did support the system and genres like arcade shooters and visual novels in previous years).

Wii U is on the way by year’s end and Japanese devs seem to be happy with the hardware and ease of development, if we believe comments by people like Yoshinori Ono of Capcom, or new comments from Team Ninja just the other day.  And Cave may like the ability to do some cross-platform stuff with the Wii tablet and their bustling mobile division (i.e. iOS games with touchscreen elements).  Timing would be right too, with Cave finishing up their 360 ports after Mushihimesama HD and Wii U arriving later this year.

I suspect it is true that this will be Cave’s last port on 360, but it is Asada.  He’s a bit of an odd character who likes to ramble anyway, so it wouldn’t totally shock me to see this as a “musing” that isn’t a final decision.  But he doesn’t usually make an about face from those kinds of comments either.  Perhaps fan response and good Mushi HD sales could get an Ibara/Ibara Kuro 360 pack released, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

It is possible, although Nintendo consoles have faced trouble in the third-parties department for the last fifteen years or so. I’m not seeing it happen, but maybe you’re right.

Ah well, if it does happen, no big deal I guess. I didn’t really want to buy a Wii U, but with all those rumors about the next Xbox possibly locking out used games, I might end up buying it instead. They are probably gonna have the next Fatal Frame, so if they get some Cave shmups too, that’s just gonna help my decision further.

Too bad it will definitely be region locked, but then, there’s no guarantee the next Xbox and PS4 won’t be too.

If the Wii U ends up lacking in 3rd parties like the Wii did it could work in CAVEs favour.

When you think of the retro playing demographic thats on the wii I always  thought it was a better place for shmups than the xbox 360 (ofc ild prefer the 360 due to HD)

          • malek86

Don’t confuse retro demographics with arcade demographics though. I don’t know if the people who played Super Mario Bros. would care about Mushihimesama.

I think there’s also the matter that the Wii in Japan seems to be even more of a family console than in the states.

Cave Wii U games would be awesome :D

The reason why I didn’t report this is because it sounds like Asada is musing about the next generation of consoles more than “confirming” there will be no more ports.

Totally unrelated to Fortune Summoners, but can we try to stay on topic, please? :P

I seriously hope we see Mushihimesama HD & Mushihimesama Futari Version 1.5 on the US Xbox Live Marketplace. I seriously like it when I can just simply download imported titles like on the Virtual Console or PSN’s PS1 Imports.

I would much rather have Rising Star Games localize Mushi HD. I’d rather have a disc.

      • Zonic505

I’d accept that as well. Heck, long as it get localized SOMEHOW, I’ll get it.

        • TrevHead

If RSG publish it on retail you can always wait 6-12 months for the GOD version

PS3 PLEASE FOR GOD SAKE CAVE!

I thought Siliconera frowned on content-less port-wanting posts like this.

Please release these games on Disc. I and others like me have no interest in these games as Digital Only titles unless they are $10 XBLA games. Thank you.

  • Mantiskilla

Aww man now my PS2 copy will probably lose some of its value.  Oh well I will probably still support them and dl this anyway
