Pokémon Colosseum Developer Making Augmented Reality RPG For 3DS

By Spencer . January 30, 2012 . 7:28pm

Genius Sonority, the company behind Pokémon Colosseum and the Nintendo DS eBook collection, is making RPGs again. Radio Wave People RPG is coming to the Nintendo 3DS and former Dragon Quest programmer Manabu Yamana is directing the game.

Radio Wave People RPG (Denpa Ningen in Japanese) uses the system’s augmented reality features to make tiny people show up in our world. (Well, at least when you view them the 3DS’ screen.) Catching Radio Wave people by scanning your surroundings is half of the game. Forming a party and fighting a demon king who kidnapped someone important is the other half. Each Radio Wave person has unique abilities and skills which you can use in battle.

Radio Wave People RPG will be released as a Nintendo eShop download in Japan on February 8 for 800 yen ($10). Before that, Genius Sonority will give 3DS owners a preview. A playable demo that lets you raise Radio People will be released on February 1. The demo is limited to 30 plays and playing it unlocks an item in the full game.

I thought i the title said that pokemon colosseum was coming to the 3DS :/

    • AuraGuyChris

If it was like that it’d be pretty pointless unless they made an excuse of adding the two next Gens after that setting since it’s stuck in the third Gen.

Would be nice if Pokemon Colosseum was for 3DS. it was a personal favorite of mine.

Too bad I lost it when i still had it on Gamecube…>lU So sad…

    • MrRobbyM

Exactly what I thought ._. I’d kill for another Colosseum game with more RPG elements/more depth.

    • theworldofnoboundries

Pokemon Colosseum: Rise of the Denpamon!!!!……..lol

    • Thomas Wrobel

      Don’t worry.
They are waiting for decent, affordable, HMDs.Maybe the next or next next portable. So we can all live in a Dennou Coil esq world.Pokemon is the perfect franchise to launch it.

  • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

Pretty neat. I’m guessing from what i read, is that you use the AR feature to search and root out these curious-looking small people. You capture them and raise them. They become part of your group and each one (in different colors) have specific abilities that can be put to good use. All the while when you’re going exploring/adventuring/fighting.

I guess that sums it up a bit. But I definitely love the concept of it. But I don’t think it’s that different from what Pokemon is anyways. Which is understanding since the game is developed by the same person who did Pokemon Colosseum.

Why I did this make this comment long…? I wasn’t really intended to do that…

Oh wow. I really want this. Especially if it would keep the affordable price when it would hit the NA eShop.

It seems like companies are really stepping it up with eShop offerings this time around. Mighty Switch Force, VVVVVV, Pushmo and Freakyforms were all delightful! Not to mention Colors is coming soon.

  • theworldofnoboundries

Lol so many NintendoeShop goodness nowadays. And the fact that looking for 3ds point card is such a pain in my city and none of credit card is accepted keeps making me stress.

Well time to start Nintendo 3ds point card hunt once more…… Across the country dammit!!!

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

      Try this site: maximuscards.com

It sells $20 cards for the 3DS. They’ll e-mail a code for eShop currency to you after you’ve paid for one of the cards.

      • theworldofnoboundries

U are my saviour Ishaan. TX A LOT!!!!!!

Man this is pretty neat. Hopefully it won’t be too hard finding all the different types of radio waves. It kinda reminds me of those old game devices that you had to scan the bar codes to unlock mons and abilities. Those were always kinda fun because of the real life scavenger hunting parts of it. Looking for codes was such an adventure as a kid. lol The game play looks like a nice solid old school RPG, that I really like. Gonna keep my eyes on this one. It looks great!

  • Suicunesol

This strangely reminds me of Pikmin. Miis dressed in Pikmin costumes.

  • raitouniverse

Looks like Pikmin combined with an RPG, it sounds really neat.

  • jujubee88

Holy crap it is a turn based RPG! Why the hell is this game NOT on the PS Vita.

Well, hopefully some third party or internal SCEJ development crew look at this idea and steal some concepts. I really like it, just want it on the PS Vita. @~@

    • theworldofnoboundries

Umm.. stealing is bad isn’t it? and if u like this kind of game, why don’t u buy 3DS?

      • jujubee88

“Umm.. stealing is bad isn’t it?”
That depends on your purview of “badness”. Also, it is not “stealing” in the legal sense since because nothing is patented.

“and if u like this kind of game, why don’t u buy 3DS?”

I will buy the game because I like the concept of combining Augmented Reality (or AR) and turn based RPG gameplay and wish to support such a concept so it can continue being successful. I will NOT buy a 3DS because I only have enough time and money to devote to the PS Vita. When the 3DS receives a price cut below $100 USD range and no longer has 3D supported software, I will consider purchasing a 3DS.

People have subjective reasons for buying or not buying a product or service. After all, no one really needs any of these things.

Edit: I wrote a shallow analogy at the end (for some reason) and I felt bad after being aware of it. lol

        • theworldofnoboundries

Lol. the way u said, is almost like u hate Nintendo so much that even though u had some game with the concept u like released on the machine, u just don’t want to have the consoles.

And what is this about “no longer 3D supported software” means? People play games on 3DS because the 3D add something. This is like u buy Wii but u never wanted to touch the Wii remote.

when I seen Pokémon Colosseum  I went *omg no way* And now I’m like (╯°_°)╯︵ ┻━┻ I must get it

    • theworldofnoboundries

So in the end, no matter which one comes out u will also get the game isn’t it bro?

      • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

        (╯°_°)╯︵ ┻━┻ yes indeed

        • theworldofnoboundries

          Just as planned u mean?

  • puchinri

Heh, what a fun and quirky looking game. My need for a 3DS has shot up 50%. I must convince my boyfriend to get me the pink one for Valentine’s Day. ono
    Or get it myself~.

    • theworldofnoboundries

Lol if u have a boyfriend, u must ask him to buy u 3DS lol. As where the hell ur boyfriend can find a girl who likes playing game huh?

  • wahyudil

wait …. no need AR card at all?

  • neetyneety

If only the 3DS camera wasn’t sh*t, I would actually want games like these.

  • ZomaNeko

Ok so there is a Dragon Quest programmer but I would never have expected the dungeon and battle gameplay to look so incredibly similar to DQIX.  For that reason alone I know I’d enjoy the game.

  • SetzerGabbiani

This is a Dragon Quest demo, lol!

  • Steve Thomas

THIS DEMO needs to be released in the US. Augmented games is the feature that will help push the 3DS now and in the future…… sadly not the 3d screen for gaming….. (ever move the 3DS out of the “sweet spot” when playing a 3D game?) ….. but I do enjot the sh!t out of my 3DS.

BRING AUGMENTED REALITY GAMES W/O THE CARDS!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Will-Jay/100001526135754 Will Jay

Yessss. Now, how about it actually gets localized? I mean, I’m fine if it doesn’t, but it actually being in english would be amazing.
