Let’s Take A Look At Sega’s "Free" PlayStation Vita Game

By Spencer . February 2, 2012 . 1:26am

Sega is making a bold move with Samurai & Dragons by releasing the PlayStation Vita game for free. Just like Kingdom Conquest, the game Samurai & Dragons is based on, Sega plans on monetizing the title with item sales.

Samurai & Dragons and its character designs from Air Master artist Yokusaru Shibata comes out on March 29 as a PlayStation Network download. Sega will re-release Samurai & Dragons in stores on April 26 with a bunch digital item codes.

Muahaha! Sega you brilliant bastard you!

I will enjoy playing your game for free and the odds are that I won’t buy any of the items if I can just patiently play through the game to gain it with enough time or gain an item of equivalent strategical value!

    On another note.

They really… REALLY should’ve shelved out at least a twenty bucks or something to ask a more competent artist to draw up their female character at least because… Well, she’s got big boobies, sure, but her shapes are all wrong that she’s no longer all that appealing. It’s like a failed MOE character, you know what the intentions were, but the delivery, the impact, it just doesn’t work.

The problem with the freemium model is that it almost always gets to the point where you have to buy SOMETHING, and usually whatever that is ends up costing more than if the game had the usual base cost.

Oh for me it’s quite simple. Typically by the time I arrived at that point, I’ve already had a ton of fun with the game, am satisfied enough to move on to another game and/or typically don’t want to deal with that unless I have some leftover change and have no trouble making a few minimal purchases which still ends up being a bargain.

But then again I’m less easily compelled into this sort of stuff… But I tend to be easily compelled to pay full prices for some good games I want to support and it’s given my wallet a mild to heavy case of anorexia.

This game will be digitally distributed to the PS Vita’s PSN first than see retail. I thought I would see that sometime soon although, I was not expecting a game to be made as soon as Q2 of 2012.

At least, this is really building up the PSN only titles on the PS Vita early with “Escape Plan”, “Sound Shapes”, “Super Stardust Delta”, “Frobisher Says”, etc. this game would really solidify a decent digital only library for the PS Vita early.

I wonder if/when localization talks will begin.

The “Samurai” font reminds me of Sengoku Basara’s and the “Dragons” font reminds me of Dragon Ball’s.

    That looks awesome.

Well, if it’s free, it’s worth a shot, I guess. But the art-style is… not exactly great.

Too bad there’s no option to switch accounts so I can log into my Japanese PSN account to get this, and avoid deleting everything on the Vita when I get it.

Yeah in fact there is. You are given an option to format the memory card after you switch accounts. Just choose not to format the MC and your other account data will still be there, its just unplayable until you switch back.

Disgusting. I would happily buy this for $60. As a free pay2win game though? No thank you.

I never saw a f2p game until now that was fair if i ever find one i would be more then happy to spend way more then i would for a game normally just to support the compagny but sadly it never happened yet and somehow i doubt it will happen anytime soon.
