Rayman Origins Will Cost 1/2 The Price Of A Game When It Launches In Japan

Rayman Origins Will Cost 1/2 The Price Of A Game When It Launches In JapanUbisoft announced they will bring Rayman Origins to Japan, but that’s not what’s interesting. When Rayman Origins comes out on April 12 it will retail for just 2,500 yen ($32). The price is the same for all three platforms: PS3, 3DS, and Vita.

That’s really cheap.

For comparison’s sake Soulcalibur V for PS3 is 8,380 yen ($110) and a Greatest Hits copy of Demon’s Souls is still 3,800 yen ($50). Resident Evil Revelations costs 5,990 yen ($79) and Mario Kart 7 is a bit cheaper at 4,800 yen ($63). PlayStation Vita titles like Gravity Daze and Tales of Innocence R are 5,980 yen ($79).

Rayman Origins might set a record for budget launch pricing in Japan.

“The price is the same for all three platforms: PS3, 3DS, and Vita.”
What about wii? The game is also available wii

In Japan, Rayman Origins is only for PS3, 3DS and Vita.

Japan will be in shock >w<' Games are so expensive right now in Japan, it's terrible, and really becoming a serious problem T3T' I'm hoping this trend begins to change soon, because it can only hurt it's market and industry in the long run omo'

Awww man I'm suddenly reminded I have to pick up Under Defeat HD this month T3T'' That's like $86 million dollars right there o~o I wish waiting would make it cheaper… but it won't T3T

    • aoihana

I don’t think it’ll be changing soon, Japan’s overall economy has been like this for quite a while. Specifically, video games.

$86? If you think that’s bad, in a couple weeks I’ll be shedding about $100 on New Love Plus, and then another $100 for Project Mirai next month. Then all the other games on my pre-order list. (´Д`。)

      • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

Yeahh but this does extend beyond Japan’s economy on a certain level, companies have been price gouging it’s consumers even before strong yen T_T; But yeah sadly Love Plus, Project Mirai, and Under Defeat HD are all the types of games to fall into that price trap that Japanese companies have cultivated T3T’

      • Testsubject909

        100$ on Love Plus.

Not counting all the objects that go along with it, like figurines, stickers, doujins and dakimura’s huh?

I can understand the lack of 360/PC version in Japan, but what about the Wii?

  • KyoyaHibari

    Lucky SOBs…lol

Yikes! It’s sad to see a quality title like that release so cheaply. Not that I’m against games being cheaper in general, but had I known better I definitely would’ve paid $50-60 for it at launch!

    • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

I’m guessing that’s how Ubisoft wants to do it…

    • aoihana

I think they’re just being realistic, I commend them for that. Honestly, although Rayman Origins looks like a fun game, I wouldn’t consider it at 5800円.

Judging from this, I think it’s safe to assume Ubisoft predicted that it wouldn’t do well in Japan at a typical retail price. I think so, too.

Anyway, I’ll definitely be ordering this for my 3DS. (◕‿◕✿)

      • http://twitter.com/apricotsushi Anne Lee

        I played the PS3 version, but I’d be really interested to see how it looks on the 3DS. Still, I don’t know if I could justify buying it again since I’ve already played through it twice ^^;

I do agree that this doesn’t seem like something that would do well in Japan at full retail, I just find it a shame. Oh well! I see from your other comment that you’re getting New Love Plus? Wish I had a Japanese 3DS…

This is more about how well it did in the western market aka BOMB! In a matter of weeks stores were selling it for 29.99 and 19.99 on all systems. They are just hoping to get something out of this which it’s sad it’s a good game. I bought it when it released for 39.99 for Wii. It seems most 2d games can’t sell at retail anymore.

    • Tom_Phoenix

The fact that it is a 2D game has nothing to do with why it bombed.

      • MarkMario

and also definitely not the fact that it’s a Rayman game without the rabbids T_T

    • AuraGuyChris

It bombed (a bit) because it came out during the season where all major developers released big games.

  • aoihana

Wow, 2,500円? I’ll definitely pick up Rayman Origins! I’ve never played any of the games, but from what I’ve seen, it looks real fun! That’s definitely a bargain! (◕‿◕✿)

I wished more developers priced their games like Nintendo. Honestly, paying nearly 6000円 for most 3DS games is really outrageous! But then again, I buy them anyway, so it’s futile. Such is the life of an import gamer. ┐(‘~`;)┌

Too bad the PSV and 3DS versions have 0% of PS3 version’s multiplayer mode…

  • AuraGuyChris

GameStop actually sells new copies for $30. Wal-Mart? Eh, they want $20 more outta your wallet.

Oh, and is Rayman going to be changed to blue?

  • Haohmaru HL

    sounds intriguing
i already platinumed the game on ps3 long ago but wanna play on vita’s sexy screen again, might give it another go.

  • RupanIII

Gah, I still have to pick this up. Demo was awesome and Rayman was one of my first PSX games.

Tis a shame tho that people don’t rally around 2D releases like they used to. I don’t expect the CoD crowd to go for it, but I’ve even heard so-called hardcores going ‘I wouldn’t pay $50 for this lol make it a $5 download and we’ll talk’ and it makes me sigh.

(yes, I realize I might sound like a hypocrite since I didn’t pick it up yet :P)

  • neetyneety

“The price is the same for all three platforms: PS3, 3DS, and Vita.” Even for the PS3?! Wouldn’t that just make everyone buy THAT ver. instead? No offense to the 3DS and Vita, but I’m sure most gamers would want to buy the PS3 ver. especially since it has multiplayer. Well, not that it matters to me, since all I have is a 3DS anyways…~

  • PrinceHeir

still haven’t bought it, shame i know :(

will buy it down the line in the near future
