DoDonPachi Blissful Death Shoots Its Way To iPhone On February 9

By Spencer . February 3, 2012 . 1:10am

DoDoPachi Blissful Death is Cave’s next iOS shooter and despite the game’s name this could ease newcomers into bullet hell. The game has four difficulty levels (novice, normal, hard, and hell) and this trailer compares the easiest setting and the hardest.

DoDonPachi Blissful Death supports Game Center and Openfeint for high schore sharing and has an option to turn weight control on and off. Cave will release DoDonPachi Blissful Death on February 9 in English and Japanese for $4.99 (US) / €3.99 (EU) / £2.99 (UK).

Ah too many good games this month, i’m broke

Go ahead and report on these games. I’m sure they have their audience. But I’m really damn sick of Cave shmups being released on this wholey inappropriate platform.

      “this wholey inappropriate platform”

You mean it’s inappropriare for shmups, or in general? Both are nonsense, of course, especially the former. Did you play any Cave shmups on the platform, or just talk rubbish? Seriously, just try them.

I doubt they will stop porting their games to X360 (or other consoles with traditional controls), especially considering their partnership with RSG is opening them new markets, so thankfully we should be able to enjoy more of them with the kind of controls they were built on.

I don’t think iOS is a substitute for a good arcade/home setup at all, but Cave’s shooters are just fine for some portable entertainment.  They aren’t choosing iOS over home ports, they’re in addition to existing 360/PS2 ports.  For $5, I’ll gladly take Daioujou in my pocket.  When I want to play seriously, I’ll be at home with my arcade stick and vertical monitor setup.

And seriously, kissgz’s question is right on – have you actually tried them?  I was wary at first too, but Cave has done surprisingly great ports.  The control works quite well, and the high quality displays (which are also already vertically oriented!) absolutely do Cave’s wonderful art justice.

I think you need to realise that CAVE phone games are a good thing for us CAVE fans who play on the consoles and arcades.

Shmups are a very niche genre and they need the money from phone ports to make a profit. Atm their strategy seems to be this.

Make arcade game (possibly at a loss) port to smartphones port to 360

Plus iphone ports have been crucial to getting new ppl into the genre and CAVE breaking into western market.

Personally I hope CAVE’s next console will be the WiiU so they can give ppl the option of playing with touch controls (aswell as traditional methods)

Although I’m not sure how it’ll play on an ipad, this is my favorite Dodonpachi game >w<' It's just really solid all round, great levels/patterns/bosses, crisp mechanics, difficulty is challenging but very fair. Plus each ship makes you approach the game from a fairly different prospective owo' Although I don't have an ipad, I hope anyone who does checks it out!

Yep, really is a true classic.  Probably my favorite shooter ever, and it’s in my top 5 for all time favorite games.  It’s a very, very hard game though!

Yeah definitely a classic, a masterpiece even >w<~! As soon as I sat down with it I fell love, it's just so on mark constantly, and an absolute treat to play every single time owo' The difficulty is really high though, agreed xpx; Even though I’d have loved to have seen this get localized on a more traditional platform, I’m just glad to see it come over in some capacity!

iPad2/iPhone 4 and above again? man, I really need to pick up an iPad 2 someday, just for Cave games. God I love me some bullet hell. Still prefer playing bullet hells with mah keyboard/gamepad though; I be a Touhou lover all the way.
