Final Fantasy XIV Becomes A Bit More Like FFXI With Classic Jobs And Artifact Armor

By Spencer . February 3, 2012 . 12:32pm

Final Fantasy XIV Becomes A Bit More Like FFXI With Classic Jobs And Artifact Armor Slated for release at the end of this month, Final Fantasy XIV version 1.21 will add seven classic Final Fantasy jobs to the online game.

Players will be able to change into a Paladin, Warrior, Monk, Bard, Black Mage, White Mage, and Dragoon by finding job stones. Each job will have class specific quests and Artifact Armor to find. Square Enix is also adding Chocobo Armor to Final Fantasy XIV.

The upcoming Final Fantasy XIV patch will add two level 50 raids, Cutter’s Cry and The Aurum Vale, too. Other useful features are a cutscene replay mode in player residences and timesaving intra-city warps within city-states. A long list of changes is here and if you’re a fan of Final Fantasy XI that didn’t move on to another game maybe you’ll want to give it a look.

I’m still praying for a Blue Mage. By far the best class of any RPG I’ve ever played, and I’m not even that big of a fan of Final Fantasy. I do wish I could play FF11, but it still costs money. Maybe later it will be FTP and I can try a whole bunch of classes with being charged for each one >_>

in before “This game sucks lmao”

That’s all I really wanted in the first place. Final Fantasy XI’s formula with new locations, enemies, etc., and a few tweaks to remain relevant in today’s MMO market (i.e. less grindy, more solo opportunities, some quest-based leveling, etc.).

Hopefully they’ll have added Samurai by the time I give XIV a try. After years of jumping between jobs, Samurai is what I came to love the last year or two that I played FFXI.

This update excites me. I wonder how long it will take before i see people wondering around in AF lol

Except the system is hardly similar to XI. Jobs are just specializations within the current classes, IE a Gladiator can ‘spec’ into a Paladin to gain more tanking power or into a Dark Knight (in the future) to gain more attack power.

Artifact Armor is simply job exclusive armor, and Yoshi-P himself said they only used that name because the player base kept calling those items “Artifact Armors”.

That said, I’m excited as hell.

I don’t think that idea of specialization of current classes to more advance ones is the idea we should convey. Yoshi Himself stated it’s more like you need x^30 +y^15=z. It’s not  simple as in you need a level 30 Gladiator to be a paladin. But you need a level 30 Gladiator and level 15 White mage to take on the class/job. Saying a Glad “spec” into paladin its like white  mage can “spec’ into glad.neither is right.Maybe there are some job/classes were it’s x^30=z. BTW I’m excited as hell too ^^

my brother plays this game an he is dreading the update he says that if he wanted to keep playing FFXI he wouldn’t have bought XIV, he said he wanted to play something new not the same game w/ better graphics. In my case i coulnt give an opinion about this game since i only play the final fantasy from I-X.
i’ve stopped playing final fantasy after X (last real one for me lol, you know w/ FF creator being gone from SQenix how can the other games be considered FF, i cant help but look at it as way for SQE to keep milking their cash cow merchandise that is the brand name Final Fantasy by naming their games so)

Gooch did next to no real work on all the FF games after V.  Just sayin’…

      • http://twitter.com/shomangaka mangakagirl

then how come they are crap to me now lol and at the time i didnt even know he existed or had left the company when i first bought XII i cant remember how many times i fell asleep playing that game n i just had to c the trailers for XIII to know that it wasnt FF anymore

(FF 1-11) Hironnobu  was of director of the first  5 final fantasies.FF 3 ,8,10 were not his original concepts but 6 ,7, 9 were. After that he moved into a more producer role overseeing entire FF series and making sure it was  up  to company quality and having more control (6,7,9).However he stepped back farther from the series by becoming Ex. producer for 8,10,11 .When making IX  the advertising for  it was ” back to  the roots” his original style of FF. 2003 when he left the music composer Noubu left soon after*.So now you have the original designer and musician removed from FF next gen games.  Square-soft merge with Enix and started continuing the series. Riding off of X , they did unheard sequel… They then made 12, it was like the first final fantasy in five years! before a fantasy was release every year even if FFT or XI broke it, it was still related to the series. And why did this happen it’s because the original man left.four years later we get XIII and its sequel XIII-2… Ever since the merger the  FF series hasn’t been the same. And lastly FF-14….the only things redeeming in my opinion is the  graphics and the returning of Nobou music, but even then mmo music never seemed on par with console music to me.The main story is ok, even if it seems like a gloried FF12 story mixed with FFT jobs. The game lack content and some basic mmo practices with missing FF lore . If those were added to this game  then it would be killer~
P:S FFXIV versus seems to be the last hope for the series console players~( though i hear FF type -0 is doing very well)~ if they don’t get it right then the series was already dead when Hironobu left.
