By Spencer . February 6, 2012 . 12:03am

The King Of Fighters XIII Climax Hitting ArcadesSNK is making an updated build of The King of Fighters XIII for arcades called The King of Fighters XIII Climax. Details about what’s new have not been announced, but the teaser site gives us a clue.

Artwork for The King of Fighters XIII Climax includes Billy Kane, Iori with the Power of Flames, Mr. Karate, Saiki, and (probably) NESTS Kyo. These characters were added to the console version of The King of Fighters XIII.

That’s great! KOF13 IS the best fighting game this gen, and I hope SNK can get more money from that. I wish my “local” arcade would get it though. Maybe I can get a local scene going or something.

Oh, and too bad about the online for the console version. I don’t know how it’s doing for anyone else, but it left the game UNPLAYABLE on my end. 3-4 bars used to be almost perfect, but since the patch, I haven’t played any game with a good connection. Even the 4 bars I’ve played against today have left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Would using a wired connection help?

    • Go2hell66

Lol don’t play games with a wireless connection, that is like day1 basics of playing games online.

      • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

I had no problems with any other games. I still don’t have any problems online except with KOF.

    • Ladius

I’m sorry for you, for me KoF13′s online so far has been on par with most other fighters this gen, and the recent patch significantly improved the situation. All in all, I agree with you regarding it being the best fighter this gen, offline and online (yeah, BlazBlue has the better netcode, but I simply don’t enjoy it as much as KoF).

  • Go2hell66

now i hope they don’t use this to somehow milk another 20 console versions

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

How can they? This is just an arcade port of a Console port. It’s not like there’s going to be anything new on there.

      • Go2hell66

thats what they say at 1st but same thing happened with blazblue, they say they’re just bringing the arcade version up to date but then they add in a whole bunch of new stuff and rebalance the game so much that they’re forced to bring out another disc release. its always like this with fighting games

and if they were really simply adding the console content to the arcade version there really wouldn’t be any need for location tests,

its a trap i tell you

        • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

But KOF isn’t BB. SNK just makes new ones straight up, or make one “enhanced” version tops. Then they don’t even make it even “relevant”. Arc Sys and Capcom have been doing that forever. Meanwhile, all SNK has is 98 Ultimate, and 2k2 UM. We don’t have 98 Ultimate Championship Deluxe HD Combo Super Edition.

          • Go2hell66

Well i’m glad you have so much faith in SNK, but from the general trend in fighting games these days, i’m pretty sure KOFXIII Climax will turn into an “enhanced version” of KOFXIII at some point. and thats when they’ll start milking the console players

But its not…the only  ”enhanced version” this is going to be is for the Arcades.  SNK know unlike with Capcom or Arc System, that alot of people don’t buy their games and unlike those companies, they never release new versions of the same game (expect for 98UM and 2002UM but they’re were pretty much years apart from their originals).  Besides if they were going do this, like many others, it would a year from now

          • Ladius

We already got the “Climax” version when we bought the console release (and its dlcs). It’s as simple as that. Of course there will be a KoF14 (or at least I really hope so), but that would be a new game.

          • neo_firenze

How do you know that even if they do add additional enhancements to Climax that these won’t be distributed as a free update to the console game (a la the Super SF4 AE v.2012 upgrade)?

Seems to me that SNK sees that KOFXIII is getting a good response in the serious fighting gamer community, and they may just want to keep the game relevant for competitive play.  Which in Japan means it’s important to have the competition version available in actual arcades.

          • AaqibRawat

            i want to be milked!

capcom have done it for so long !

            SNK MILK ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • PrinceHeir

actually 98UM and 2002UM had another updated called Nesica X Live(added in player cards and some NEW balance changes)

but yeah they weren’t new characters or anything other than that.

        • Ladius

Location tests are the best way to have high level feedbacks regarding the console-exclusive characters in order to patch them afterwards (for example, Iori ’98 apparently has an infinite). Also, SNK and Arc System never had the same business model. Just look at the differences between each KoF entry (completely different games with different rosters) and then ad the constant upgraded rereleases of GG and BB.

    • Luna Kazemaru

we only get more console versions because they try and keep up with the arcades or in this case the arcade getting what the console versions. Not all righting games no it like capcom just for the hell of it.

  • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

So it looks like an arcade update that gives the arcade all the console changes?

That’s what I’m hoping for anyway. Don’t want to hear about console KoF13 already being obsolete. -.- (Even if this is the nature of the fighting game beast)

  • AaqibRawat

i saw this on event hubs[ hate that site]

    ive been waiting to say…

    GET HYPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :}

i will pay happily for another disk release MOAR PLEASE SNK !

  • Gatchaman1

Arcades dont seem to exist anymore in the U.S. other than “Dave & Busters” which has no fighting games, so this just seems like a myth to me

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

What do you mean “probably EX Kyo”, why would they leave him out

  • PrinceHeir

    OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im guessing they want KOFXIII to be at SBO next year or 2.

the thing that disappointed me of KOF XIII is the lack of Ash Saga characters.
i mean if this is the conclusion shouldn’t it be that all characters from the Ash saga appear in the end???

just like 2001 is the end of the NEST Saga and we get all characters from 99-2001
    .
just look at what we have been missing here:

Vanessa, Ramon, Blue Mary; Agent Team. Shingo Yabuki(come on), Oswald(only 1 game wtf??) Gato, Bonne Jenet, Whip(either in K’s theme or a new team), Kasumi Todoh, Momoko, Malin, Duck King, Tizoc

we had them in teams in KOFXI. wft happened in KOFXIII???

then again they appeared behind the scenes in the story mode so they can still add them with a reason.

though would love to add Chizuru Kagura(then again she seem uncapable of fighting in her condition)

Hayate, Gai Tendo would be lovely bonuses from XI

others that appeared in KOF 2003 but never showed up again.

Chang Koehan, Jhun Hoon, Hinako Shijou, Ryuji Yamazaki, Kusanagi(wtf i was hoping at least he showed up in this tournament)

oh well i know it will cost them too much due to the new sprites and all.

though the characters they must include in this update(if they plan to add new ones hopefully) are Vanessa, Ramon, Blue Mary(this agent team already appeared behind the scenes, so we they are a must) Shingo Yabuki(come on??), Oswald, Kasumi Tendoh, Gato, Bonne Jenet, Kusanagi and freaking Adelheid!!!!!
at least a good portion of these characters should be included in this update.

they are vital to the series saga.

Adelheid should have been playable since they already had a sprite of him and artwork, i also read he was the “other” protagonist of the series. can’t believe he’s only a side character now

the game is still amazing, love how they used KOFXI speed in combination of KOF2002UM style of play.

i was hoping they announce or at least give us a hint for KOFXIV(Dream Match please) or even Samurai Shodown VII, but this is good enough.

let’s just hope SNK can make sequels in their other franchises like Samurai Shodown VII, New Metal Slug, Neo Battle Colosseum 2, etc)

damn i am FREAKING excited for this!!!!!

    • neo_firenze

As a fellow SNK addict, I love your enthusiasm ;)

But I do have one complaint – you didn’t list the two SNK sequels I would want the most, Garou 2 and Last Blade 3!

    • AaqibRawat

i new this would get you excited!

Your post is everything i want !

      XD

      SNK YOU ROCK!

  • http://twitter.com/H8tianSensation Ricardo

*YAWN* This isn’t anything to jump for joy about. It’s just the console characters along with the gameplay tweeks of the console version that’ll be imported onto the Arcade. I doubt there will be more characters but one can only hope…. WHERE IS YAMAZAKI!?

  • http://www.youtube.com/B4ULoveShine Tim_at_where

    C’mon, SNK, don’t go steal a page from Capcom’s ‘updating’ tactics! >_<;

However, if you feel this is necessary, in terms of story, please do so-just sparingly!
