Scenes Before Serah And Noel Zap Lightning

By Spencer . February 7, 2012 . 1:09pm

In this corner we have a time traveler and a pink-haired girl with a transforming moogle. And in this corner we have Cocoon’s savior and (another) man with a machine gun. The battle between Lightning and her younger sister Serah begins today with the Lightning and Master Sergeant Amodar coliseum battle DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Scenes Before Serah And Noel Zap Lightning

Make Lightning eat her words and she plus Amodar will join your party in the rotating monster spot. Square Enix plans to release additional Final Fantasy XIII-2 downloadable content with storyline branches for key characters afterwards.

i think i will pick this up since i want to have a ravanger with all the elements early so is lighting able to be that ravanger?

    • PersonaBull

      Infusion is your friend. I’ve been using a Gremlin I got in the Bresha Ruins right from the start that has all the elements to attack with. I’m getting to the point where it may finally be replaced, but I’m also up to the mid-to-end storyline. Also, early on I don’t think you’d be able to take on Lightning. She doesn’t seem to be too much of a pushover >.>;;

    • RablaAndrews

You won’t be winning this fight anytime before Episode 5, buddy.

  • http://openid.anonymity.com/5HuDuQyz Woot

Let’s hope for more battle DLCs. I wouldn’t mind using monsters or characters from other FF titles either. xD

Safer Sephiroth. God of Magic Kefka. Gilgamesh! :o

      • Yu_TheKing

I can imagine Kefka: “I hate, hate, HAAAAAAAAATE Lightning!!!”

Now that’s what I call an extra, would definetely buy it!

  • Zero Shift

Can’t wait to pick up this DLC. Been dying to have an actual character in my party’s third slot instead of a monster, even though technically, Lightning/Amodar are still “monsters”. This was one of the things I dislike about XIII-2, I really prefer a party of actual characters, feels more natural and you’d probably get more story.

but still it is the truth xd, that piece of sh*t of a dlc should have been in the freaking game to begin with

        • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

If you can’t afford it, ignore it. Think of it as it never existed. Complaining about it won’t do you any good. If you can’t accept DLC then you’re not going enjoy playing future games for the rest of your life. I’m disappointed in every single one of you who liked Gyro Zeppeli’s comment. It’s the truth xd

          • mirumu

I’d concede Gyro Zeppeli’s play on the indistinctness of L and R in Japanese language was unnecessary and inflammatory, but the use of DLC in FF XIII-2 is arguably the worst since Bethesda’s infamous “Horse armor” back in the day. It’s not the existence of DLC that’s the problem, it’s how Square Enix have abused DLC in this specific instance.

I’m disappointed in every single person who ends up paying extra just to get a good ending.

Hey, better than having to buy XIII-3….  Something I wish SOMEONE *coughcoughCapcomcoughcough* would learn….

          • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

I could exactly say the same thing toward games like Blazblue or MvC3. They make DLC character and release new revision of games later on which can easily be downloaded through DLC. I’m not saying DLC is the way to everything but if you’re going to piss off user by adding a new characters through DLC then release a new revision is just plain idiotic. The fighting game community abuse this the most. Sqaure Enix is just getting into DLC market through their main franchise and you guys are bashing it as if they were doing it for decades. Okay okay maybe they did DLC way back with Radical Dreamers. Atm some of the content isn’t that great but give them a couple of months and I’m sure they will think of something that will change your mind. It’s like that with every other game. Right now, I’m just going to enjoy playing this as everything should.

Anyway look at Mass Effect 2 for example, the game ending is pretty cool and there were DLC later on the year that slightly introduced Mass Effect 3. You don’t go seeing people bash on Bioware as people here bash on Square Enix. You guys are complaining because it has the Final Fantasy name on it but if it was any other games, people would act normally towards it. Talking of DLC, Tales of series loves to release a bunch of costume and I don’t see people complaining about content cut. Don’t let some purchasable extra content at launch affect your decision to buy this game. I would type more but 3 of my fingers on my left hand is covered in plaster and it’s hard to type.

          • mirumu

Bioware isn’t offering better endings to the game as DLC. They also aren’t advertising the game with a character splashed all over the trailers, and the game’s cover no less, that you only get with DLC. If they did I would happily complain about that too. If any company did this I’d complain.

The existance of UMvC3 and all the BB:CS versions is a traversty, but that doesn’t give Square Enix a free pass. Given the underwhelming sales numbers for both UMvC3 and FF XIII-2 it certainly looks like people are allowing things like this to affect their decision to buy the game. They have every right to do so.

If you don’t mind being treated like this then by all means buy these games, and I hope you enjoy it, but characterising anyone who complains or refuses to buy as a Square Enix basher is way off the mark.

          • GGear0323

this fear that there is going to be a DLC chapter that ends the entire series is getting a bit out of hand. i am sure most of us are pretty confident that a XIII-3 is most likely going to happen. story expansion DLC is nothing new. seeing the ending from a different point of view doesn’t actually change the ending. they want to make a DLC scenario for Lightning, which is where most people are getting the idea that you have to pay for the actual ending, but they also want to do the same for Sazh and Snow. does that mean there is going to be 3 new endings are could it just be as simple as it sounds. that they want to expand the story by having us play through the eyes of different characters.

and, contrary to popular opinion, the Horse Armor DLC wasn’t actually a bad use of DLC. it was stupid and over priced for what it was, but it was ultimately meaningless no matter what the price was. even if it was priced at 25 cents, at the end of the day, you are still paying for horse armor. if someone wanted to buy it, good for them.

Yeah, makes me happy I am a collector of the kinds of games I like.  When gaming gets to the point that I am just not happy playing in it anymore, I will have a 300+ strong library to enjoy from back when gaming wasn’t being made with milking or short attention spans in mind.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Felipe-Andres-Beltran-Sandoval/1576955976 Felipe Andres Beltran Sandoval

I know what you mean dude, but I come from an era when games where COMPLETE upon release, I remember sitting and playing trough a good complete final fantasy for hours getting everything, enjoying the full experience of a well made game without worring that some day I will have to pay for the freaking true ending, aaaaa those where the days. back in the day the idea of paying extra money for content that should have been in the game already would have never cross my mind. I can understand that capcom does this a lot with his fighting games, or what western developers do with their RPGs, but this is square-enix that we are talking about, the company responsable for a lot of my favorite video-games, thats why i consider this amount of bullsh*t dlc as unacceptable. this is just an excuse to get more money for their product, now as a company, it is a great idea, but the DLC is one of the many things that are killing gaming this days

          • GGear0323

how can you say it should have been in the game in the first place? you realize 99% of all DLC we get nowadays would have simply been cut from the game and never seen again in the past. or it would have been held back in order to be put into the sequel (if that was ever made). the only reason we ever even see DLC as quickly as we do is because the devs don’t have to stop working on content. they can continue to put things together knowing they can still sell it at a later time. story expansion DLC is the only kind of DLC i enjoy. it is the kind that couldn’t in any way be seen as being just ‘cut’ from the game and sold back to us because of the time it takes to make.

the idea of DLC has been parsed down over time. way back, it was full blown sequel or nothing. then came expansion packs which added a great amount of new content to a game and was sold for $25-30. now that has been cut down into story based DLC. the content added a good amount but it was always just a supplement to the main game and usually sold for $15. at the same time we are seeing costumes and character models and weapons/items, etc… all bundled together into DLC and sold at differing prices. this is the kind of stuff that simply would have never seen the light of day had it not been shown that people like to buy it to make their games feel ‘unique’ in some way. i can’t say they shouldn’t be sold as DLC because of people want them and are willing to spend the money to get them, so be it. it doesn’t add to the game in any meaningful way.

in FFXIII-2′s case, we don’t need a Coliseum. there is an entire mechanic of the game that pushes people to fight and collect every kind of monster in the game. if people want to buy extra characters just for the chance to add them to their collection of ‘monsters’ go right ahead. it doesn’t change anything.

OH GOD, this made my day! xD

I heard this was happening on Feb 7th. but I don’t see this on PSN anywhere. Why is that?
    EDIT:
Below was a mistake I made, sorry.

  • Aoshi00

Great, just got it, and I haven’t even got past Ch. 1 to access Coliseum yet lol (caught a cold from people coughing and spreading germs..)

So Noel’s outfit is out but not Serah’s yet *.*?

P.S. just got slaughtered by big sis in 1.5 sec :(…

oh my god i also got a cold X(

      seriously i hate winter :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bobby-Jennings/100000158197173 Bobby Jennings

Wow, I beat them about 4 times, they didnt drop the crystal yet. But it’s fun as hell. Can’t wait for the March DLC.

  • Wahyudi Cahya Putra

this is the first game where we should pay for the true ending

    • http://twitter.com/Tiredman_ Tiredman

Pathetic isnt it.  No more strange and mysterious ways to get true endings.  Then again, since I haven’t bought the game myself, I hear it ends with a big old “to be continued” so I guess you aren’t paying for the true ending, but for the actual ending period.

      • RablaAndrews

The game ends. The ‘To Be Continued’ is referencing the extra story scenarios.

        It’s amazingly misleading.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Ingram/100002032335254 Jonathan Ingram

Actually, it wouldn’t be the first game.

      Still pathetic though.

    • GGear0323

not the ‘true ending’ just another one of those secret endings they they included in some of their games. though, in said games, you unlocked it by collecting stuff and finding certain items, not actually being able to play a storyline sequence in order to get it. you can decide which way is better, i guess, but 90% of the people who ever saw those things in past games did it by watching it on Youtube.

  • Vorbix

I thought the game was about finding Lightning, does this mean it’s possible to have Lightning in your party while searching for Lightning in the story?

How early can you fight her to unlock her? Or is the DLC locked until later?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ZWVI7YYH6OKX3EHGS4DPH4REBQ Alane Felix

I think it may be Lightning before the events of FFXIII took place, since when you do see here in the main game in the first place, she’s wearing armor, not her normal clothing.

    • RablaAndrews

The Colosseum is a place where the dead heroes of the world are ressurected for combat. This Lightning is a physical representation of the Lightning at the end of XIII.

…think of it as like a Servant from Fate/

    • KOKAYI5

they’ll be a chapter devoted to Lightning only later on, but right now you have a doppleganger comprised of her time as a l’cie.

  • cj_iwakura

So the big question: can we adorn her with blue ribbons and hats?

  • KOKAYI5

I fought and beat them 3 times and still never got their crystal. I think you only get them if you get a 5 star rank.
    EDIT:
    Now even at 5star rank I didn’t get them…. What’s going on?

    • Ixbran

according to FFwiki their crystal drop rate is only 10%.

your going to have to fight them multiple times and hope you will randomly get their crystal.
