The Ryu Hayabusa we know today wears a jet black costume…

… but two decade ago Ryu dressed in blue shrouds.

Team Ninja made a homage to "classic" Ryu in the Dead or Alive 5 alpha version demo. Hayabusa’s 2P costume is based on his Famicom look.

nice to see they haven’t forgotten their past.

  • maxchain

You know what?  If, when you lose in that costume, the Game Over jingle is that DO-DO-DO DOOO DOOO DO-DO-DO DOOO DO-DO-DOOO from the NES games, I’ll buy it.

  • heartless141

the costume was in NGS2 as well

    • PrinceHeir

      awesome2 :D

i think it was already unlock in the co op mission and what not??

  • Angeru_Lito

Oh man for one those portraits finally make the girls look different.

  • ivanchu77

That costume reminds me of kage-maru

    • PrinceHeir

      ahahaha same2 XD

man NES Ninja Gaiden 1,2,3 was piss hard!!!!!

    • Daniel13789

So true! I never beat any of them even WITH cheat codes…

  • malek86

I remember this costume being in DOA4… or was it DOAU? I can never remember.

    • William Carpenter

Almost positive that it was in both games.

  • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

I had this game on NES when I was like 7, I loved that first level… which I never beat.

  • William Carpenter

Pretty sure this costume was unlockable in both Dead or Alive: Ultimate and Dead or Alive 4, as well.

Considering Momiji seems to be a favorite of Tecmo these days, I wonder if she might make an appearance in DoA5? I know a lot of people wanted Rachel to crossover, but I personally prefer Momiji.

    • Dantis

That costume was in NGB too.

I’d love to see Momiji in DOA5, but I don’t think it’ll happen. Hayashi said that he want to keep DOA and NG distinctly separate entities with different characters and whatnot.

      • PrinceHeir

same with Sigma 1(and probably 2, haven’t finished the master mode for now)

    • PrinceHeir

      oh yes Momiji!!!!!!!!!!

i hope they also use Momiji’s alternate outfit from Sigma 2.

and Rachel needs to be in as well with her alternate costume from the NG games!!!

Must we really get the version with the figures to get a demo with four characters instead of two? Why can’t they just release the demo separately.

  • Dantis

I really, really, REALLY want this to be good, but after seeing the trainwreck that is NG3, I can’t bring myself to get excited over it.

    • ddh819

what do you mean? ng3 isn’t out yet, i thought?

      • Dantis

It’s not, but everything about it is looking bad. It is possible that I could be wrong, but it’s looking less likely every time they reveal something new about it.

There’s no ninpo, no OTs, no UTs (Now it’s a bar that you fill), only one weapon in the whole game, stealth sections, ludicrous amounts of QTEs and the game is only 8 hours long (According to the developers, so probably remove an hour or two), which is half the length of the previous two.

        • PrinceHeir

can you tell me what OT and UT were again??

          i finished Sigma 2 last year(around Nov)

though UT is Ultimate Technique right??

          • Dantis

UT is Ultimate Technique. You can sacrifice essence (Which is either health, money or magic) to perform a super attack. In NG3 these are replaced by a bar you fill up and activate.

OT is Obliteration Technique. It’s a one-hit kill on dismembered enemies. On NG3 they’re just tacked on to the end of combos.

But there are OTs in NG3!!!, and the gameplay looks great for me (or any action game diehard fan) fast and smooth. We don`t know If it`s easier than it`s predecessors and really who cares If you (probably) will have like 3 more difficulty levels. Regarding the length of the game and the lack of weapons (let`s hope they compensate with more complex combos and maybe mix melee with long range, I don`t know), it`s really a shame.
Anyway, I just can`t wait to play a COMPLETE NON ITAKAGI N.G…let`s wait and see I say.

            did Sigma 1 and 2 had OT’s???

damn will check this out later.

        • MakoSoldier7

go watch the giantbomb demo playthrough, or play it yourself. there is nimpo, there are a bunch of weapons, the “stealth” sections are just you running around one-shotting enemies from behind with a special animation, and the QTEs are few and far between. Not saying it looks good at all, but your very ill-informed…

          • Dantis

I’m going by what I saw on the Giant Bomb playthrough. There are NOT a bunch of weapons, there is one. There is NOT Ninpo, there is a single spell you use to scare enemies. The QTEs happen every time the camera zooms in on Hayabusa (Which is VERY often), but they just don’t display a button prompt.

            I don’t feel all that ill-informed…

  • theworldofnoboundries

….. Can they give me bird costume for Ryu lol?

  • Muggshotter

Hey. They wanted to give us a reminder how hard the first Ninja Gaiden game was.

    <3

  • Souji Tendou

HECK YEAH! Finally, that costume is back. I’m happy.

  • Jayson Napolitano

Never cared for the new Ninja Gaiden games. Would be great to see them go back to the blisteringly difficult and amazingly crafted 2D experience.

  • max_REM

He’s had this costume in just about every game, though.

  • PoweringUp Tom

I think it would look a lot better if they just turned his already-existing costume blue, instead of redesigning the whole thing, but it’s still cool to see that their paying their respects to the Ninja’s first home.
    I still haven’t beaten Ninja Gaiden…
