Final Fantasy XIV Scales Down From 18 Worlds To 10

By Spencer . February 9, 2012 . 3:31pm

Final Fantasy XIV Scales Down From 18 Worlds To 10 Final Fantasy XIV is merging worlds on March 27, 2012. The eighteen worlds named after Final Fantasy locales like Gysahl, Mysidia, and Fabul will be squished into ten new worlds. Square Enix recommends German and French speaking players to move to New World 10 so it’s easier to find other players that speak the same native tongue.

Players will be able to world hop for a limited time between March 1 and March 12. The world merger will dissolve Linkshells (although your "follows" will carry over) and may require some players to change their character name. Only one Serah Farron per server, sorry.

I kinda feel sorry for this MMO. Final Fantasy doesn’t deserve this.

FF should have never been an MMO. At least, not a main title.

Indeed, they should just stick to making single player JRPG’s.

We’ll only ever wonder if Final Fantasy Online carried anything negative.

        FFO the MMO?

FF XI always seemed to be a respectable MMO with a decent player base even if it didn’t rake in the cash like WoW. When Square Enix annouced XIV I really thought they’d take what they’d learned and make something really good. Instead it seems that XIV has lost whatever goodwill they had built up with XI.

As far as I’m concerned at this point Square’s doing the same thing they did with the single player FF experience that they did with XI. Namely built the franchise reputation and lore rather than its experience and history.

Everyone probably tried to start over from square-one after Sakaguchi left. That’s why it seems like the soul of the franchise has been missing since FFXII., which itself was styled after an MMO and had no central character.

I see what you did there

i saw that too but i agree with him completely =3

That’s an interesting observation. It would certainly help explain the current state of affairs.

Last time I checked, the player number was abysmal, especially for a game of this relevance. I wonder how much money SE has lost so far, and if this game will ever be profitable even after the revamp.

Well i hope this makes it easier for me to find a party. XD

No more Figaro? Good thing I never actually payed for this game, I just got a buddy pass during the free period.

  • Exand

There’s still 10 servers? Last population poll I saw tagged the game at about 10k at peak through all the servers.

  • Jayson Napolitano

Those are some cool server names. A shame to see them go.

  • PrinceHeir

i just hope version 2.0 would be just as awesome as XI :P
