Tales Of Graces F’s Japanese Pre-Order Bonus Offered At Gamestop

By Spencer . February 10, 2012 . 4:38pm

In Japan, Namco Bandai offered Tales of Destiny costumes for Asbel, Sophie, and Richard as a pre-order bonus for Tales of Graces f. This freebie is also available in North America, but only if you reserve Tales of Graces f at Gamestop.

The Tales of Destiny costumes will be equipped during events and battles where the change the music. Gamestop is also giving pre-orderers a code to download a XMB theme. Tales of Graces f comes out on March 13.

Thanks for the tip Alyssa!

Tales Of Graces Fs Japanese Pre Order Bonus Offered At Gamestop

Well, talk about fortunate timing on my part.  I just reserved this game earlier this week at Gamestop just to assure myself that I would get it.

    • aoihana

You know, sometimes I get a little paranoid that I wont receive the bonus unless I pre-order it after the bonus was announced.

So, for example, I pre-order a game, and then GameStop announces an exclusive bonus, I get worried that I may not get it because I ordered it before! (*^ワ^*)

Anyway ~ Yes, very fortunate for you! (◕‿◕✿)

      • shy_mel

I think codes for things like this are now printed on the Gamestop receipt, so you don’t have to worry about not getting it.

        • aoihana

Yeah, but I meant like an unplanned pre- order bonus, or one that is just being offered.

Like, if I pre-ordered a game last week, and there was no mention of a bonus, but then a bonus is announced a week after. That sort of thing.

Though, nice to know they are printed on the receipt!  (◕‿◕✿)

      • http://twitter.com/Tiredman_ Tiredman

I always double check myself.  I ask them up front, since this bonus was announced a month after I preordered, do you still have me set for it.

What you do is actually a good idea.  I preordered mass effect 3 ages ago, and then they announced the collector’s edition.  I figured I was golden, then I went in a week and a half ago and asked, and learned I only had the normal copy up, and they were sold out of collector’s editions.  Oh well for me, I just decided to not buy mass effect till its cheaper due to that, because the collector’s edition was the only reason I was going to buy it day one, because I don’t like the whole EA online pass thing.

So……I took the cash I had on that game, around 20 bucks, and paid off my Tales of Graces game, so its ready to be picked up release day.

        • aoihana

          That’s very unfortunate, sorry. (´∩`。)

But that’s exactly why I worry sometimes!

  • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

    Bleh…Nevermind.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QX5LRTLTCQEJQ3IXCBUNDILFIE Ryan Saotome

Gonna wait to see if Amazon also has a preorder deal.

    • 27CansOfTuna

You missed it when it was $20 off there.

      • http://twitter.com/andresc1305 Andres Correa

Really? Damn wish I would have heard about it I would have so have bought it on Amazon. Is there any way to be informed of deals like these?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aunna-Terrell/100001267508146 Aunna Terrell

I think that “deal” was just a pricing mistake (like how Toys r’ Us had FF13-2 listed as $45 instead of $60 on their website). Amazon had it listed for $40 then later corrected it to $60. So those that pre-ordered when it was $40 are getting it at $40.

I know I missed it. XD Told my boyfriend about it after it bumped up to $60 and he was like “Why didn’t you tell me? I would have gotten it for you for $40.”

  • http://twitter.com/RefueledPants Jordan Slovsaki

I’d sooner buy it from Satan. Too many ignorant employees who are forced to pester you about trade ins and preorders. Although I got a good laugh this one time a new female manager (who knew nothing about technology) was asked a question by some customers:

”Yeah I’m having problems getting HDMI and whatnot working with my console, do you know what I should do to get it working?”

    “You can trade it in!”

    Gamestop, power to the players.

    • aoihana

Hmmm, I’ve read at least one other person on here comment on GameStop’s employees pestering them, but honestly, that’s never been a problem with me.

I don’t really buy a lot of domestic video games, but I have been to GameStop quite a number of times before, and although I do get asked, a simple no, thank you sufficed. That was the end of it.

It’s sad that there are people who are apparently pestered to the point of avoiding the place altogether.

But I guess it does vary with the personal experience. ┐(‘~`;)┌

    • RupanIII

      lol I have a cringe-worthy conversation to share from my local Gamestop. I haven’t been there in a long time, but if memory serves, the last time I was I asked the guy if they had Gamefan or EGM, since they were both relaunched and I wanted to check them out. He had no idea what I was talking about -_-;

That said, to be fair, I’ve read some accounts on siliconera of people having decent employees at their GS. I’d never go back to my local one, though.

edit- just remembered, that same day this gangster’d out dude came in and was all ‘yo, do they still make PS2 games?’ and the employee started laughing and said no, he should get a PS3. *sigh* I remember when shopping retail used to be enjoyable.

    • http://twitter.com/Tiredman_ Tiredman

I will be honest, almost every gamestop I have gone to has been pretty good.  Yes they want to tell you about preorders and trade ins, but thats business.

My cousin is the assistant manager at my local gamestop.  Her and the manager migrated from those positions from working at a restaurant.  Neither know much about games at all, they learned most of what they do know on the job.  But their job isn’t to know games, its to make sure all the other employee’s who do know games don’t sit back and chat with people like me for 2 hours and don’t work.  I go down there when my cousin is there, and I chat with her for a few minutes, then I end up getting into a game discussion with the other employee there, which from what I can tell, all but my cousin and the manager know games almost as well as I do.  We talk about what games we are looking forward to, what games we have on preorder, what games that are already out that we think each of us should play.

Basically I have never had an issue with a gamestop.  The folks down there even order me sealed copies of games they have on display if they have none, instead of selling me the already opened copy.  I have lived in numerous places around the U.S. and only one gamestop I ran into, that was located in a mall, would ever get a bad word from me.

good thing i pre-order a few month ago

  • Crazy_O

    Preordered it ;)
Shipping included (i live in europe) it costs as much as any new game I would have bought where I live anyway.

  • aoihana

I don’t think there are many instances where the same pre-order bonuses are being offered overseas, or at the very least, I don’t remember many.

Anyway ~ It’s great that people overseas will get the opportunity to snag such an awesome, once exclusive to Japan, bonus. (◕‿◕✿)

    • 27CansOfTuna

Really? Quite sure it happens alot with Western Games published in Western countries.

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Awesome! Can’t wait to see which pre order bonuses they’ll have in store for european gamers. I’m so tempted to import this, but….the tales of series needs support in Europe, so I’ll wait the extra months and wait for this game to release in here and get it. I’ll pre-order it as soon as I can!

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Well besides hunting down rare games/deals I try to avoid Gamestop as much as possible. I order online and the shipping carrier that charges no shipping (which is $0.00 on their site), the condition of my packages vary from a nice sturdy box to a envelope with no protection. (I usually get collector’s editions that’s why I’m picky with this, but I think protecting a product while shipping is important for any store, especially how Amazon treats any of their products and exchanges/refunds if damaged due to their packaging) Though I ordered Skyward Sword with the $10.00 shipping and it came nice and safely. (I forget which shipping carrier the $10.00 one was too…) I need more time to see how this works since I think it’s the shipping carriers’ way of packaging. Well I got a Gamestop giftcard from Christmas… was gonna use it on NG3 CE or Asura’s Warth, but now I’ll use it for this. Thanks for the news

  • MrRobbyM

I’ll see if there is exclusive DLC elsewhere before I pre-order this at gamestop. I try to avoid them as much as possible. Also, too bad the Haseo costume isn’t included instead >_<

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Do we get the Code Geass DLC costumes too? If so, JYB better be voicing Richard.

    • SilentSchemer

Thats that the only DLC I will ever need for Graces.

    • 27CansOfTuna

Hopefully that DLC is on sale on day or the week after, so glad it wasnt a preorder DLC.

    • Spirit Macardi

Sadly I don’t think Johnny will be voicing him. However, young Asbel is being voiced by Kate Higgins, the same person who voiced C.C.

  • http://twitter.com/Dudechileno Keycross

“The Tales of Destiny costumes will be equipped during events and battles where the change the music.”

It´s not very clear what the sentence says here. I guess it means the costumes change the background music when equipped.

Still, I don´t care about DLC, what matters is that March 13 is the day I´ll get my hands on a copy…

*remembers he still has to wait for the game to come to his country*

    Oh #”$%$#% >.<

    • http://twitter.com/Three_Leaf_Ivy Triplicity

That is exactly what it means. There’s a Flynn costume for Hubert which changes the battle music to Fury Sparks!

      • MrSirFeatherFang

Holy Smokes! I’m guessing Vesperia and Xillia have done something similar while changing costumes?

        • Draparde

i’m not sure about Vesperia, but i do know Xillia does have the music change when the group wears certain outfits

        • http://twitter.com/diptadiptadip Pradipta Permadi

for xillia, yeah it is, if you change jude costume to cless it will change the bgm music to the phantasia usual random battle. So does milla if she change the costume to stan, the bgm will play destiny random battle

in vesperia it isn’t. i’m using the cameo costume from colosseum, the only benefit they got from using cameo costume is you got altered cameo artes. no music change

  • Jahred Down

Alright, GameStop still doesn’t have my preorder yet, I need a better bonus.

    Best buy you’re up next.

  • Elemiel

I only have $55 left (about to lose most of it for Abyss on Tuesday). (T▽T)

  • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

To anyone seriously hoping or expecting other stores to have other pre-order bonuses, I just cannot see that happening. The way I see it, Namco Bandai already sees themselves as taking a huge risk with this. The pre-order bonus they just announced is pretty much completely free for them. Costume codes that were already give out for free in Japan and XMB themes that anyone could make. The other only kind of pre-order bonus you could possibly expect from other stores are different costumes; theres no way they’ll do something physical like an artbook, CD, etc. because it’d be putting a lot more money into the project.

tl;dr there will not be other pre-order bonuses except maybe different costumes, if there are, I will eat a hat.

    • MrRobbyM

“if there are, I will eat a hat.”

I’m holding you to that :)

      • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

I would love to be proven wrong; if I was, I don’t think I’d have too much of a problem learning what a hat tastes like.

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Can we choose what kind of hat?

Also will you take video to prove the eating of said hat?

  • Draparde

Good thing i already put some money down on it at gamestop. i’ll probably put more down when i go pick up Tales of the abyss

  • Darkrise

I guess I know where I’ll be stopping by tomorrow.

  • SilentSchemer

That theme better be a dynamic one! Dun dun dun!

    • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

That’d be cool! I don’t think it is though :(
      But I’ll be hoping now.

    • raymk

I don’t remember it being that way,but its the same one the japanese got for pre-ordering the game.

      • SilentSchemer

Ah, ok. I didn’t know about that. Thanks.

  • http://twitter.com/ZEROthe1st ZEROthefirst

Well hey I already pre-ordered my copy a while back, so I guess this is a cool benefit :D

  • Boo

So I have to re-reserve this in order to get the pre order bonus?

    • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

      No, its automatically included.

      • 27CansOfTuna

Guess it depends if the code is in the package or if it is printed on the receipt like most other recent preorder reserve dlc codes. (sonic gen for example)

        • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

What do you mean, “Guess it depends”? Even if you pre-ordered it from Gamestop a year ago, you’ll get the bonus. It won’t depend on how the bonus is given out.

          • 27CansOfTuna

sorry i was taking your comment literally on how its given out, though there are cases where the store will fail to give the person the preorder bonus by forgetting (never got it for one game i got from gamestop, somehow the card was “missing”)

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Damn, gamestop, i wonder how early can it be gotten from it? Does gamestop normally waits for release date or they sometimes release the game a bit early? I could get it if it could be sent before the 14th of march for personal reasons im too lazy to type.

    • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

No, Gamestop never releases things early, its entirely against their policy/rules/rules of the game distributors. If something does get released early, its usually a huge issue that isn’t good for anyone.

      • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

I see, i have heard amazon sometimes ship sooner so i thought sometimes gamestop might do the same sometimes

        • PoweredByHentai

My PS Vita accessories have already shipped out.  My PS Vita First Edition Bundle hasn’t shipped out and customer service says that it is because the FEB bundles haven’t arrived at their warehouses, yet.

          ಠ_ಠ

According to Amazon, Hot Shots Golf arrives on Monday and my memory cards and pouch and whatnot will arrive on Tuesday. It is like a drip feed of torture.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

The dutch equivalent to Gamestop is called GameMania, and they generally sell a game once it’s in.

say a game is out (officially) the 5th of March and they get it 5 days earlier, it gets sold on the exact day they got it in.

i got Zelda a Day early, others here got Skyrim 9 Days earlier.

        is that bad?

  • 27CansOfTuna

Unfortunately DLC of a Tales game I never played an an XMB theme isnt worth paying $20 and 5% sales tax for this game in a brick and mortar store versus with AMZN, but nice gesture.

Since someone in the family is getting it from Gamestop…Ill just sign in with their psn accnt and download the costume and dlc, then go back onto my account. #winning

    • MrRobbyM

Ugh. Too bad I’m the only one in the family that cares enough to pre-order JRPGs. I might just have to.

  • pockystix

    ew. . . gamestop o n o

  • http://www.cubiz.co.cc/ Chris Thomas

Well meh that’s cool and all but eh. Whatever the game is being localize which is the coolest thing.

    • Ladius

      Couldn’t agree more :)

  • http://twitter.com/VasiliiHellsing Vasilii Hellsing

It seems that I’m left with no choice but to pre-order it. Man, way too many awesome releases in the 1st quarter of 2012 my poor wallet is crying. (T_T)

  • http://twitter.com/Wakaki2D Wakaki2D

    Want code Geass dlc  :(

    • PoweredByHentai

      Asbel == spinzaku

I am not kidding.  They (Asbel and Code Geass’s Suzaku) are both voiced by the same guy.

      • http://twitter.com/Wakaki2D Wakaki2D

Even more reason to give us the DLC :D  cool tidbit there.

        • PoweredByHentai

What’s even more hilarious is that some of Asbel’s skillsets are almost a 1:1 rip of Spinzaku’s infamous spin.  XD

Here’s a good example of some of his Spinzaku antics:
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctInlP4OgVI

And yes, apparently it can interrupt the enemy.

          • Solomon_Kano

Wait… were those .hack costumes? .hack + Tales + Suzaku = YES

          • PoweredByHentai

Yes, that is the 3rd seiyuu joke.

            Asbel == Spinzaku == Haseo

  • Croix

I know I’m just being picky here, but I hope they announce an Amazon pre-order bonus too. I had planned on getting this with a portion of my hundreds of US dollars in amazon gift cards.

If they don’t, then so be it, I’ll suck it up, not whine about it, and pre-order this at the same time I pre-order Xenoblade. Because I’d never miss out on a Tales title, and I’m probably going to try to get every single extra for it that I am able to.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nirun-Rangraengjit/100001072531722 Nirun Rangraengjit

I don’t see a code on my reciept from when I pre-ordered. I reserved it the day SoulCalibur 5 came out. So do I get the DLC or not?

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Most of the time, when you pre-order from Gamestop, the code is not on your pre-order receipt. The code will only be on the receipt they give you when you actually receive the game. Otherwise, you could just pre-order, get the stuff, and then cancel your pre-order.

      • MrRobbyM

Or you can pre-order, get it, sell it on ebay for full price and then support Amazon and buy your own copy there. Everyone wins.

        (Yes, I dislike Gamestop)

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

This sounds like too much of a hassle.

          • MrRobbyM

            Just sayin’. It’s an option.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

Actually, everybody does NOT win then. That’s one less copy that gets bought new and one less reason for Namco to further support the Tales series in the West.

          • MrRobbyM

True. I wasn’t serious about all this anyways. Like STiger said, too much hassle.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PFWIKITDHYHN2BRIEB66A5IP5E (^_^)L0vely

You forgot the eBay and Paypal fee. There is no way you can get a full price back unless you sell it higher than retail price.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rad-Phil/100001043096006 Rad Phil

SC5 had the bobblehead as pre-order from Gamestop. The thing that annoyed me with SC5 is that they had part of the game as a pre-order from Best Buy, instead of an extra thing. So now that 1 slot in the character select which is Danpierre in the game, despite CAS using his style in Quick Battle, is not unlocked because I didn’t go to a SPECIFIC retailer.

  • http://twitter.com/diptadiptadip Pradipta Permadi

    damn, only gamestop ?
how about play-asia, anyone know the info ?

  • http://www.facebook.com/VirusChris Christopher Nunes

    Lucky I pre-order at GameStop already. ^_^

Can’t wait until this game comes out!

  • antperze17

now all we need are the code geass costumes and i will be a happy camper lol ;)

    • Dimentionalist

Bandai owns the license, so it’s pretty likely that they’ll make it onto the NA PSN.

      • antperze17

        good to know thanks!! :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

i just hope some of the rereleased Tales games come over to Europe.

were it not that some companies think that their IP is unmarketable here

  • http://twitter.com/Leivra Leivra

Do you guys think this will come to PSN store as DLC later?
I don’t live in US nor Canada, and the shipping fee cost the same as the game’s price!
Now I can understand the large hate against GameStop.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

It might.  I noticed “GameStop preorder exclusive” God Eater Burst DLC came to PSN later, for free.  Hopefully Namco won’t shaft the rest of their fans.

    • Ladius

If you’re European, you can wait for a British store to have the same preorder bonus when the game hits Europe.

And no, those costumes were preorder-exclusives in Japan and Namco already confirmed the same for the US.

  • xavier axol

I have no interest in this game, but i do hope that xillia comes to the us.if its a good game, then there’s no reason for nanco to not localized it.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Well, you’re not going to see Xillia unless this does well. Why would Namco localize another PS3 JRPG if this one sells like crap?

      • MrRobbyM

To be fair, the story and characters iin Xillia seem a lot more appealing to me than Graces F. I’m still buying Graces F, but for others, it’s a deal breaker.

        • AuraGuyChris

Hell no. Xillia is an extremely crippled game given a ridiculous amount of outfits are all paid DLC. Oh, and let’s not forget it does not have a Cameo Battle like Graces has (even before the updated port).

    • Ladius

If you aren’t ready to support this series then expect the Tales games to never see the American market again. Anyone interested in other Tales games must support Graces F if we want Namco to see there’s an active and interested fanbase here.

    • Dimentionalist

I absolutely hate it when people act like we’re getting screwed and Namco is giving us an inferior product. People who have completed BOTH titles say that both have their own strengths and weaknesses. Many people even say Graces is *gasp* BETTER!

      • xavier axol

Well i can just ignored those people and pretend that xillia is the better game. i can also pretend to believe that tales of vesperia is a lot awesome than f and (despise namco) for not localising vesperia on the ps3.

  • xavier axol

Ok that’s a good point there, but here another. why would you spend 60 bucks for a game that (let’s be honest dont have the production or care value) that you see now a days. I mean even artelico has more qualities than this game, and that caming from a guy who doesn’t like to play too much otome games. that been said i respect and love both of these series.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Because I want to see more JRPG’s localized into the West and to do that, one must vote with one’s wallet. Namco, or any other company, is not going to bring us more unless these initial tests are a success (and that’s exactly what Abyss and Graces F are. Abyss will determine whether or not we see portable Tales games, Graces F will determine if we see PS3 ones). $60 is a small price to pay to support a genre I love.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

If you love the Tales series, you’d buy Graces f without a second thought.

      • xavier axol

i do believe me. i still feel love for this series, but i’m not spending 60 buck for this game. it’s not that i’m been cheap, i’m just broke that’s all. after paying in full for the ps vita and re-buying some of my psp games from the psn( sony i’m not happy with you either) :-X i’m eating instant soup for the whole month and next.

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

I see it this way: Graces f will be a lot harder to acquire a copy of than a PSVita.  Which is why I’m waiting on the Vita.

          • xavier axol

            Mmm….i’m a sucker for a new hardware. ;-)

        • Ladius

It’s your money, but why are you buying a PSVita if you’re broke when you could be able to pick it up later with a discount instead of buying the much cheaper ToGF, that could be out of stock in less than a month if previous Tales games’ example is followed?

          • xavier axol

here’s how i see things. i would support tales by buying it, making people aware that such wonderful rpg exist, and pushing the publisher to bring it overseas. now how would i play tales with out hardware, as much as it pains me, but there are things one have to prioritize over the other. in my prospective, i see a lot of potencial in this handheld, so i choose to support this over tales by buying it. but it don’t mean, i can’t support tales ( just because i’m broke) letting people aware of this game, can also help too. :-[ besides i didn’t say, i will never buy the game ( after all there’s also tales ps vita that might come over) but there’s such much i can do.

    • Ladius

If you’re interested in seeing more Tales game in the west and in playing a legitimately great jrpg you have no reasons to skip on Graces F or wait to buy it, since you will send the wrong message to Namco.

  • kroufonz

why must this gamestop exclusive :(

  • Rupedgo

I’m short on money right now, but maybe I’ll buy it on zavvi, since it’s around 40€.
I’d love to get my hands on this, the last Jrpg I played on a current generation console was Eternal Sonata and while I liked it, I still miss Tales series.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

Just pre-ordered it at EBgames. Gotta support those JRPGs in the West.

That solves the theme issue… but not the DLC costumes…

Yeah, because what we certainly want are less Western sales for the Tales series. Care to provide a torrent for a pirated version next?

Loss of pre-order =/= loss of sale. I agree with you in principle, but you’re acting like this was a deciding factor in someone’s purchase of the game and now that they can get it free they’re going to skip the game.
