Nintendo Preparing 3DS For Korea With Star Fox 64 As A Potential Launch TitleEver since the Nintendo DS, Nintendo has been expanding in South Korea with Korean language DS and Wii games. Some of Nintendo of Korea’s recent efforts include hiring Girls Generation to promote the DSi and localizing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword so it would be released in Korean the same time the Wii title made its debut in other regions.

While we haven’t heard of a concrete release date for the Nintendo 3DS in Korea, Nintendo of Korea is quietly working on a local hardware launch. The news comes from a leak on Korea’s Game Rating Board, which rated Star Fox 64 3D. Nintendo wouldn’t localize a 3DS game without releasing the system, right? Of course not. Since a game is ready to go, a 3DS launch for Korea can’t be far behind.

For some reason, I always thought of Korea as being one of Nintendo’s potential major customers.

I think Korea is more about PC

Going by their gaming history, pretty much. Wasn’t always like that but right now, PC and Online gaming is pretty much king. Perhaps though Star Fox 64 can appeal to the younger market and female and family audiences too.

While that’s true, when I just visited last year, Nintendo stuff was pretty popular. Not STARCRAFT popular, but a lot of kids and teens were playing around with a DS.

The only downside though, is that EVERYBODY pirates over there. I did not find a single person who was playing with a real retail cart. Even 9 years ago, when I lived there, people would just pirate games (Except for Starcraft, which eventually got pirated by everyone after about 2001). It was considered almost stupid to be buying games.

I dunno bro, that looks like it’s written in JAPANESE.

        • neetyneety

The Koreans wrote it in the native language of those they wanted to read it… you think if they wrote it in Korean the Japanese would understand? Guess not, huh?

As long as the front figures are handsome/beautiful or the projects bring money, either of them would care enough to engage the other in some sort of activity.

Is it true that the North Korea version will have Fox McCloud replaced with Kim Jung-un and James McCloud replaced with Kim Jung-il?
