Darkstalkers Are Not Dead, Capcom Filed A New Trademark For Them

With Street Fighter X Tekken nearly complete, fighting game producer Yoshinori Ono must be thinking about his next project. Perhaps, it’s Darkstalkers? He teased Darkstalkers are not dead at San Diego Comic-Con and we just found a trademark for Darkstalkers filed today by Capcom Japan.

Capcom wouldn’t register another trademark for Darkstalkers after all these years without some kind of plan, right?

I’m not expecting anything for another year or two, they still need to ride out the SFxT wave, followed by TxSF, and then whatever anniversary plans they have. DS4 being their first fighter for the next gen would be excellent timing.

TKxSF is namco’s baby which means capcom doesn’t really have anything planned after sfxtk, i’m willing to bet money this will be there next big fighting game followed shortly by Ultimate SFxTK

I do hope there is something in the works, but then again, Capcom has been known to troll loyal fans (i.e. Megaman fans), so I’ll take this with some salt…

They added in Darkstalker characters in most of every crossover game they have done…of course they remember it. Now if it was Rival School, then yeah but remembering it, doesn’t mean they think people will buy it even though we would

2. Show them pics, news trailers etc.
3. Set a release date
4. Cancel game

Niitsuma’s team clearly gets the short end of the stick when they have to deal with ridiculous deadlines, smaller budgets and stubborn companies. I can’t blame him for being more detached when he can’t please the fans.
He wanted to add more MvC2 characters to UMvC3, but Marvel said no. He wanted to add 8 more characters to UMvC3 for 58(two more than MvC2), but execs basically told him he had to release the upgrade eight months after Vanilla MvC3 and they had to compromise with only 12/20. His team made extra features like hitbox/hurtbox data and replays, but they got relegated to the Vita version. They can’t even get alt colors on DLC costumes because Marvel wants their character’s alts to fit strictly with the comics. Compare that to Ono’s team getting at least a year per upgrade cycle and enough money for a ton of extra features while UMvC3 gets… Heroes and Heralds mode with SPECTATOR MODE!
There is a pattern here… non Street Fighter games clearly get less funding and love from Capcom’s piggy banks.

you know, I rather Darkstalker to stay dead rather than let CAPCOM put their hand on it, CAPCOM now days lost the touch, I can really see them runing the gameplay, runing maybe characters, or just cancell it half way.

After everything that has happened with Capcom I was hoping Darkstalkers would stay dead. It IS my favorite 2d fighter but I wouldn’t want to see it ruined or become some mediocre joke… Plus Darkstalkers had a story and character we all know how much importance Capcom gives to stories and characters :/

But I am a sucker for Darkstalkers… Heck it is the only reason I would actually get UMvC3, plus it was the only reason I got into the versus series (with the exception of TvC)… So yeah I would gladly give it a chance and deep down inside I am really happy the series might be coming back!

Uhh I dunno… I was dissapointed with SSFIV and MvC3. The only way Capcom would make me really excited for a Darkstalkers reboot is if they are going to keep it with 2D sprites, which I doubt would happen, unfortunately.

Unless they make this with 2D sprites, it’s going to get real ugly. It’s going to be difficult to put in characters like Demitri and Anakaris without having concessions in 3D.

I never played a darkstalkers game but would be willing to try it out. Also hopefully people wont complain when pics and videos are seen you wanted a new darkstalkers game and now they are giving one to you! I dont wanna see another Mega Man UMVC3 fiasco again!

I’m expecting some pretty wicked things. Darkstalkers was a series that didn’t mind blood, amputation, and naturally- some wackiness. Although I’m not sure they would keep something like amputation around I’m still expecting something with a dark vibe. Would love to see some stages along with music return.
Cant wait to see what this is :3
